This is a new way of looking at courses and qualifications. It allows language learners to measure what they can do at all stages of language learning including the very early ones.

Of course, Asset is the first languages qualification to be available in junior schools. It’s given the pupils a real sense of achievement, and the bite-size format has been really motivational.

Breakthrough Stage Grade 1 I can say/repeat a few words and short
simple phrases.
Grade 2 I can answer simple questions and give basic information.
Grade 3 I can ask and answer simple questions and talk about my interests.
Preliminary StageGrade 4 I can take part in a simple conversation
and I can express my opinions.
The great thing about Asset Languages is that it actually recognises what pupils can do, not what they’ve learnt on a course or programme of study…..we haven’t had to alter the way we teach languages in order to offer the qualification.
