Bilfinger Engineering & Technologies GmbH has arisen out of the merger between Babcock Borsig Steinmüller, Bilfinger Piping Technologies and parts of Babcock Noell. The new unit’s core competencies include service, construction and digital networking of components and systems for the economical, emissions-friendly operation of energy and industrial plants with stringent process and material requirements.

Increasing environmental awareness, growing demands on competitiveness, technological innovations and the desire for greater efficiency and flexibility of the plants: Not only the energy sector, but also the process industry are faced with these challenges, which must be proac-tively and efficiently mastered. The merger of Babcock Borsig Steinmüller, Bilfinger Piping Technologies and parts of Babcock Noell as the new Bilfinger Engineering & Technologies GmbH is exactly the answer that is needed to deal with these challenges. The new company delivers the highest level of competence for customers both within and outside the energy sector. Headquarters are in the Bilfinger location in Oberhausen.

The Energy & Utility Companies, Nuclear business unit bundles our knowledge in the area of nuclear energy generation. In addition to the planning and imple- mentation of high-pressure piping systems, this also includes maintenance as well as shut-downs and disassembly of nuclear power plants.

The business unit Energy & Utility Companies, Nuclear sets itself apart through its outstanding specialist competence in welding technologies: Included among these are the remote control orbital welding, welding work on piping systems with high wall thickness and welding repairs on critical systems and compo-nents such as reactor pressure vessels or pressurizers.

The business unit Oil, Gas, Chemicals bundles Bilfinger’s competences for com-panies in the oil, chemical and petrochemical sectors.

More than 60 years of experience make us a competent partner for all welding and assembly technology in the oil, chemical and petrochemical sectors. Core competencies include, in particular, the application and processing of materials for plants with high thermal, corrosive or chemical exposure. The rehabilitation of industrial ovens is just as much a part of our skill set as the provision of systems for the generation of electricity and process steam, including through the combustion of residue from the production process.

Our business unit Industrial Applications combines Bilfinger’s most up-to-date product expertise and performance for applications in the industrial segments maritime/marine, cement production, metallurgy and other industries with requirements in the areas of fuels, firing systems, steam generation as well as emission and waste gas purification.

Core competencies here include desulfurization systems for motor emissions from ship operations or special denitrification systems for use in atmospheres with high dust exposure such as those in cement plants, for example. Residue incinerators for process steam and electricity generation are also part of our expertise.

Our business unit Fabrication & Installation combines Bilfinger’s competences in the areas of manufacturing, assembly, construction at site and after market sales. In addition to modification, assembly and maintenance services this also includes highly-specialized expertise for applications in the nuclear and processing indus-tries as well as precision bending of pipes with diameters of up to 850 millimeters.

The Fabrication & Installation business unit covers within the scope of after market sales, supply of spare and wear parts, the entire spectrum of main-tenance as well as the manufacturing and processing of pipes, especially with sophisticated material, welding and bending requirements. Thanks to high-ly-qualified welders, we can complete the most challenging welding technology projects. As proof of their qualifications, our employees have all necessary licenses and certificates for the nuclear and process industries.

Our integrated, process-oriented management system has been certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 since 1994 and combines quality management with environmental management as well as health and occupational safety management in line with the SCCP model. Burner technologyThe conversion of power plants to low-emission firing systems is becoming increasingly important. Our burners for coal dust are designed on the basis of theoretical principles that are adjusted to reflect project operating results. Assembly is based on many decades of experience. Continuous development is carried out with computer model approaches to simulate various types of coal.

Lignite dryingSince 2001, we have been working together intensively with partners from industry and science on research related to coal-drying processes. The pre-drying of raw coal is a process engineering solution to enhance efficiency in lignite-based power plants. In this process, the energy created from water turning into steam during drying is integrated into the power plant process. Depending on the water content in the coal, this allows for an efficiency gain of four to six percentage points, considering a pressurized operation of the drying system and the integration of all of the heat from the vaporized coal water into the power plant process. Pressurized steam fluidized-bed drying contributes to the con-servation of a valuable fossil fuel, a reduction in CO2 emissions and to securing a stable supply of energy.

Pulverizer developmentFor an efficient firing process, raw materials must be optimally prepared. We offer the entire spectrum of services for the grinding of hard coal and lignite as well as the grinding of biomass.
