Michael Pahnke, Managing Director of Wepuko-Hydraulik GmbH

The mechanical engineer Fritz Thumm

founded a pumps and compressor factory

in an empty factory building in Metzingen

in 1932.

Two years later the company merged with

another firm, Werkzeugfabrik Metzingen von

Neudeck, to form "WWeerkzeug-, PPuumpen-

und KKoompressorenfabrik von Neudeck & Co.",

better known today as WEPUKO.

Originally the company produced extremely

robust and reliable single, dual and three-

phase high-pressure compressors, single-

piston press pumps, garage air pumps,

hand press pumps and atomizer pistols.

The development of the horizontal triplex

plunger pump – which despite being sub-

stantially more powerful ran much more

smoothly and almost entirely free of

vibrations – secured the up and coming

company its technological edge and en-

during business success.

The company survived the war and its after-

math despite the dismantling and removal

of important machines as reparations.

However, this loss soon proved to be a

major advantage as the economic miracle

took off and work began again on design-

ing and producing pumps and compressors.

The company acquired state of the art new

machines which enabled production pro-

cesses to be rationalised and fine tuned to

a degree never before imaginable.

The company grew rapidly and soon began

to conquer markets with its large portfolio

of successful products.

New production halls and office buildings

were built, increased and with expansion

into more international markets the number

of satisfied customers kept on growing.

Globally-operative mechanical engineering

firms can be found in all the industrialised

nations around the globe. But WEPUKO is

also hard at work on remote oil and gas

fields in even the most inhospitable condi-

tions. We currently have a densely woven

sales network in over 74 countries on all

5 continents of the earth and are always

at our customers' service wherever they

might be, to provide our advice, our know-

how and our products.

We are on the spot ready to provide our

expertise all around the world whenever

experienced planners, determined devel-

opers and reliable manufacturers are need-

ed for new water or oil hydraulic systems,

presses and press drives or for process

technology.

Problems? We respond immediately!

WEPUKO machines are so reliable that our

customers only usually get to see our service

personnel when they are commissioning a new

machine and when the last maintenance work

is being performed before the warranty period

expires. However, despite the proverbial re-

liability of WEPUKO machines, if our repair ser-

vice is needed anywhere in the world, we are

ready to leap into action at any time, to advise

and assist, and to send any spare parts that

may be needed. And if repairs have to be car-

ried out by our engineers on the spot, they set

off straight away – wherever they are needed!

At your service, worldwide

Our qualified, local sales personnel are

thoroughly acquainted with conditions on

the ground and customers can rest assured

that wherever in the world their projects

may be, they can rely on the support and

backing provided by our development

engineers in Germany.

Real people there when you need them

As an innovative company we are con-

stantly talking with researchers and devel-

opers, specialists in the worlds of business,

professional associations and politics and

are always glad to show off our latest pro-

ducts and solutions. Which is also one of

the reasons why we take part in so many

international trade fairs.

We have our own exhibition stands at the

leading international fairs or are represen-

ted by our local sales partners.

Two series

Our triplex plunger pump program

includes the DP200 and DP400 series.

Both series provide delivery pressure

of up to 1000 bar and a capacity of

between 4 and 2000 litres a minute

which always enables the optimally

designed pump to be chosen.

yet still continue to function like clockwork

speak for themselves.

Which is why WEPUKO's triplex plunger

pumps are deployed throughout the world

whenever water hydraulic systems have to

operate at high pressure:

• WEPUKO plans and supplies complete

descaling systems for accumulator or

direct descaling of blooms, billets, rods

and round, square, or flat material.

• As the main components of hydraulic

press drives, WEPUKO triplex plunger

pumps rejuvenate and breathe new

competitive life into even the oldest

plant.

• Our pumps are used in the automotive

and car parts supplier industries where

one of their uses is to deburr metal

parts.

WEPUKO's development of the first triplex

plunger pump in the 1930s represented a

technical milestone.

No other pump was able to compete

with the smooth running performance, re-

liability, maintainability and service life of

the newly developed WEPUKO pump.

We have sustained and extended our tech-

nological edge ever since. Many WEPUKO

machines commissioned several decades

ago are still running as reliably and effi-

ciently as they were on their first day of

service. Nevertheless, we have stuck to

our own philosophy and our firm belief

that even the very best pumps are full of

potential for numerous incremental

changes which accumulate into huge

improvements over the course of time.

We have, for example, fitted large-displace-

ment hydraulic pumps with a pneumatic

suction valve lifting device to bring about

a dramatic reduction in their wear and tear

and maintenance requirements. Or we use

new, special materials in the fluid end, the

power end and in piston seals which signi-

ficantly broaden their power range.

The steel industry, where three-shift ope-

rations mean work continues around the

clock, is one particular field in which our

triplex plunger pumps convincingly de-

monstrate their quality.

Pumps which are consistently able to with-

stand these extremely severe stresses and

Optimisation for us means making the perfect even better.

The biggest advantages of oil hydraulic

systems are their enormous power density,

the huge forces they bring to bear, their

compact design and high dynamic respon-

se. Whenever operating conditions get

really tough, when power and above all

else reliability is critical, WEPUKO oil hy-

draulic pumps are the answer. For very

good reasons.

After all, every single one of our radial

piston pumps is the result of know-how

accumulated over 75 years by pump

pioneer WEPUKO. As drives for mighty

presses in the steel industry or as part of

rudder roll stabilization systems used to

improve the manoeuvrability of ships in

strong swell, our pumps – out of sight,

but not out of mind - demonstrate what

absolute reliability and long service life

really mean.

Equally invisible, but used by millions of

people every year, is the power and relia-

bility of WEPUKO hydraulic drives which

lift up to 50 people at a time, come rain

or shine, to the top of Paris' 276-metre

high Eiffel Tower in heavy double-decker

cabins. Our radial piston pumps can work

with variable or constant capacities.

We distinguish between valve controlled

(fixed displacement) and slit controlled

types (variable displacement).

Pumps in the RX (formerly RP) and RKP

series are slit controlled and have neither

valves nor valve springs. An integrated

modular design allows almost infinite

adjustment and control. All our radial

piston pumps can be used in open, semi-

closed, or closed oil hydraulic circuits.

• High-pressure pumps in the RX series

are available with up to 1000 l/min

capacity and 450 bar working pressure.

• Pumps in the RF series are available

with up to 1000 l/min capacity and

450 bar working pressure.

• The pumps in the RF series are also

manufactured as a special RH pump

with up to 125 l/min capacity and

1000 bar working pressure.

• The pumps in the RKP series

(Moog license) are available with up

to 375 l/min capacity and 350 bar

working pressure.

• The pumps in the RF/RH and RKP

series can be equipped with a through

shaft to enable several pumps to be

installed in a tandem configuration.

There's no second time around when it

comes to safety – which is why our triplex

plunger pumps are not only installed in

German nuclear power stations to enable

boric acid to be pumped into reactors to

prevent chain reactions getting out of con-

trol. Nuclear power stations in China and

India also rely on the operational readi-

ness of our pumps.

Customised solutions ensure trouble-free processes

4)

Extreme reliability and trouble-free produc-

tion and processes, plus minimum main-

tenance requirements, are preconditions for

the operating efficiency and safety of large

industrial facilities.

Which is why WEPUKO products are first

choice whenever pumps and units are used

for gas dehydration, as injection, transport

or water injection pumps.

The PMSD, the modified sinusoidal direct

drive for hydraulic presses, enables wor-

king speed and direction to be altered in

any way without using control valves.

Far fewer components work during each

stroke than in conventional drive systems,

and machinery featuring the modified

sinusoidal drive can consequently operate

to much higher standards of reliability.

The press movements can be steplessly

adjusted and time consuming switching

of large filling valves is now a thing of the

past. The outcome is higher availability,

reduced repair and maintenance and

much higher productivity. Even more im-

portant advantages are the enormous

energy savings which can be achieved

with PMSD.

Measurements in various plants in which

a valve-controlled fixed pump drive has

been converted to the sinusoidal drive

confirm that the PMSD consumes around

30 per cent less energy per ton of steel

produced – sometimes, energy costs can

even be cut by as much as 69 per cent.

Major contracts in China

We are not only world leaders in the pro-

duction of energy-saving press drives, we

also have a reputation in the Far East for

unsurpassable quality and reliability.

It came as no surprise then that WEPUKO

was awarded the contract for the develop-

ment and supply of the hydraulic drives

for two of the world's most powerful steel

presses in China:

We are now working extremely successfully in fields of business which no one had every

heard of just a few years ago. All around the world, wherever high-pressure processes edge

towards the limits of the technically feasible WEPUKO has established a daunting reputation

as a competent and reliable problem solver.

In close dialogue with customers and as part of a worldwide, permanent exchange of

information with researchers and development engineers, we create custom-tailored

solutions on a project by project basis. Using state of the art information technology and

sophisticated calculation and simulation software we are able to build the systems our

customers require rationally and precisely in our modern production facilities to meet the

agreed deadlines.

Tomorrow's technology:

environmental technology

Action to protect the environment and the

climate is now so urgent that the 2007

Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to climate

change campaigners.

Our commitment to energy saving and

pollution minimization is not just confined

to our research and development work.

We are also actively involved in such

future-oriented ecological fields as wind

energy and geothermics. Geothermal

power stations use hot thermal water

which is pumped to the surface and used

to generate electricity and provide heat.

At a pressure of 500 bar the cooled water

is pressed back into the earth at a rate of

15,000 litres per minute - by one of our

triplex plunger pumps, of course. Thanks

to the precision with which they can be

controlled and metered, our pumps per-

fectly meet all the technical requirements.
