Saturday - 11 - Cliff EberhardtCliff Eberhardt knew by age seven that he wasgoing to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in

Berwyn, Pennsylvania, he and his broth-ers sang together and their parentsplayed instruments. His dad introducedhim to the guitar and he quickly taughthimself to play. Fortunate enough to live

close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs onthe East Coast), he cut his teeth listening to the likesof James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen,Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, and Mis-sissippi John Hurt — receiving an early and impres-sive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time, hewas also listening to great pop songwriters like ColePorter, the Gershwins, and Rodgers and Hart, whichexplain his penchant for great melodies and cleverlyrical twists. “Eberhardt sings with passion and withwit…what makes his brand so rare is the self-assur-ance and poise he brings to his nearly flawless show.”- The New York Post

Songwriter Showcase

Singer/Songwriters in the Round

We turn our stage over to artists we have metthrough our long-running Open Mic nignts. LisaMartin ran the Hootenanny/Songwriter Sessions at

The Vanilla Bean Café forseveral years and will be ourOpen Mic featured performeron May 1. Lisa’s musicbridges the elements of folk, rock, country and blues withher pop sensibilities, heartfeltdelivery and quick wit. Gracie

Day was our September feature. Her EP, theNashville Sessions, is “a remarkably dense and rich-ly textured piece of work, one that showcases Day’ssmoky vocals and extraordinary phrasing.” –Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Steve Dedman, frontman for Americana band “Plywood Cowboy,"writes heart-born songs that interweave countryroots with singer-songwriter traditions. Steve will beour feature March 6. Bob Chabot was a Kerrvillefinalist and a member of the Fast Folk Songwritingcommunity. He will be our Open Mic feature onJune 5 of this year.

Sunday - 19 - Ellis PaulSome artists document their lives through theirmusic. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist

who can do both, telling their own storythrough songs that also encapsulate theessence of people and places who havehelped define their era overall. WoodyGuthrie comes to mind, and so does

Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yetfew others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experi-enced by those who find that common bond, be it ina coming of age, living through the same realities orsharing similar experiences. Ellis Paul is one ofthose gifted singer/songwriters. Though some mayrefer to him as a folk singer, he is more, for lack of abetter word, a singular storyteller, a musician whosewords reach out from inside and yet also express thefeelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most peoplecan relate to in one way or another, regardless ofage or upbringing. He’s an observer, a philosopher, and an astute storyteller who shares with his listen-ers the life lessons he’s learned.

$9.95

Our Pricing Practices*

1. Sales Tax Included - Our prices include the

6.35% Connecticut Sales Tax + the 1% Restaurant Tax.

The prices listed on the menu are exactly what you pay.

Our prices may seem to be inflated; however, a $14.00

menu item is actually $13.04 + $.96 sales tax. Further-

more, this practice makes it easier for the customer, espe-

cially if that customer is a child who has exact change for

a cookie. What you see is exactly what you pay - what

could be simpler?

2. Not Market Standard Pricing - We are not

trying to fool the customer into thinking that $11.95 is

less expensive than $12.00. We find this type of pricing

insulting to our customers. However, the reason it is

used so extensively around the nation is that it works

effectively. We don’t like that practice, and we also like

to believe that our clientele is not so easily fooled.

3. No Pennies, Dimes or Nickels - Because our

prices include tax and we do not price in the standard

way, we do not have to use pennies, dimes or nickels.

This is a service to both the customer and to us. We

don’t give you lots of change, and we only have to use

quarters and fifty-cent pieces. This also helps our staff to

be more efficient performing transactions, which saves

time and money. An added bonus is that we don’t have

to count change at the end of the business day.
