LRSD Homestay Program
Through the LRSD homestay program, students get to experience what it is like to be a member of a Canadian family in a warm, welcoming home environment. International students will participate in day-to-day family life, including helping with chores. Homestay families also provide students with excellent opportunities for English or French language development.
Homestay families are carefully chosen. All homestay families are interviewed and must pass security checks. International students staying with a homestay family can expect:
• A private room
• A positive and supportive atmosphere in which to study and live
• Three meals a day
* Homestay is only available to students who choose to stay in LRSD
* LRSD custodianship is mandatory for all students under 18 residing with an LRSD homestay family
* Homestay is not applicable to students studying at ATC
The International Student Program Staff Provides:
• Communication and assistance with students before their arrival and during their stay in Canada
• Greetings for homestay students at the airport upon their arrival
• Custodianship and supportive, caring LRSD homestays
• Arrangement for medical insurance
• Appropriate course selection and organization of school registration
• Orientation sessions
• Monitoring of class attendance and student progress
• Ongoing communication with students’ parents, homestays, and educational partners
