THE CANDLE BLESSING The Presider says O Gracious Father, almighty and eternal God, you created light out of nothing, and by your command caused the labor of bees to be revealed in the perfection of wax. Bless and sanctify these candles that their light may be for us a reminder of the true light who enlightens everyone coming into the world. As these candles, kindles with a visible flame, scatter the darkness of night, so also may our hearts be enlightened by the fire of the Holy Spirit, that we might see your salvation, and attain to the Light that never fades away. All this we ask through Jesus Christ, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen. HYMN AT THE CANDLE LIGHTING LORD GOD YOU NOW HAVE SET YOUR SERVANT FREE Hymnal 499

THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 2:22-40
Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Gospeller The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.
SERMON The Rev. Jeanne Kaliszewski A time of silence for reflection follows.
THE NICENE CREED
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen.
Presider Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

OFFERTORY ANTHEM WHEN TO THE TEMPLE MARY WENT Johann Eccard When to the Temple Mary went, And brought the Holy Child, Him did the aged Simeon see, As it had been reveal'd. He took up Jesus in his arms And, blessing God, he said: In peace I now depart, My Saviour having seen. The Hope of Israel, the Light of men. Help now Thy servants, gracious Lord, That we may ever be, As once the faithful Simeon was, Rejoicing but in Thee: And when we must from Earth departure take, May gently fall asleep, And with Thee wake.

MINISTRATION OF THE SACRAMENT Share the gifts If you know the brokenness of life, then you have participated in the broken body of Christ and you are invited to share in the breaking of bread. If you desire to know the love of God that overcomes apathy, alienation, and despair, then you are invited to share in the cup of the new covenant. The bread is received in the open palm. It is usual Anglican practice to drink the wine from the common cup. If you wish the chalice bearer to dip the bread into the wine, please hold the bread before you. If you prefer to receive a blessing, please cross your arms over your chest.
The bread is gluten-free and vegan at the 10:00 am service. Please ask the Chalicebearer if you prefer grape juice instead of wine.
Prayer and Laying On of Hands for Healing If you wish a particular prayer for yourself or for someone else, you are invited to go to the prayer station located to the right of the altar. Give your first name and share your prayer need, and the prayer team will quietly offer prayers. Anything you share is confidential.

Beginning on Wednesday, February 12th, the catechumenate returns to Grace. Over seven Wednesdays (eight if you include Ash Wednesday) and, if the participants desire, a weekend retreat, we’ll tell stories of our search for God, we’ll explore the Eucharist and baptism, we’ll examine the nature of the Episcopal tradition, and we’ll play the ever-popular game, “stump the priest,” and still more. At the conclusion of the catechumenate, to be received into the Episcopal church, or to reaffirm their baptismal vows they will have an opportunity to enter into these sacraments or sacramental acts. We’ll start at 6pm with a meal and wrap up two hourish later. Please speak with Martin or Jeanne if you’re interested in participating this year. We’d love for you to join us.
Join us for Grace’s annual pancake dinner and talent-optional talent show, beginning at 5.30pm on Tuesday, February 25th at 5.30pm in the parish hall. Bring your appetite - and sign up to share your song, skit, joke, or interpretive dance number. We’ll conclude the evening by taking the palms from last year’s Palm Sunday and turning them into ash for Ash Wednesday.
You are invited to begin a holy Lent through the ancient practice of the imposition of ashes. Please join us at 12Noon in the chapel or 7pm in the Nave. Holly Puckett will preach.
