PROJECT BRIDGE, an outreach ministry birthed last summer, out of conversations among Henry County United Methodist pastors

and Lay Leaders (Discipleship Network), was highly successful in closing the gap that many children often suffer in their reading

level between the completion of one school year and the beginning of the next. Several of our Paris First members played a vital

role in this ministry to children and their families. Plans, which were well underway for this summer’s program, are being

adapted due to restrictions on gatherings of children during the pandemic. Our Project Bridge planning team is now working

with city and county school officials to develop an alternative plan for this fall when children return to school. Realizing that the

need for additional reading support will be greater than ever among some of the younger students, our team is seeking to find

ways to assist teachers in offering adult tutoring/mentoring during the school year. Look for updates on these plans in the weeks

to come and prayerfully consider how you might participate in this ministry.

Capital Campaign progress continues with the power washing of our buildings this week and the refurbishing of our beautiful

stained glass windows anticipated to begin next week - pending the weather’s cooperation. We will need an additional $17,171

by mid-June when the window project is completed. If you were planning to make a contribution to the Capital Campaign, and

are able to do so, now would be a great time to help us meet this goal.

The Congregational Care Committee is updating the military bulletin board, and they are in need of up to date pictures (Families

preferred) and information. If possible, please send information on military rank, location and name and age of children. Please

email to Melinda Bradley at [email protected] or send to 825 McIntosh Road. Paris, Tn. 38242. The photograph will be

returned if needed.

We need volunteers for the Brookfield

Summer Feeding Program. This

program has been greatly simplified

from the past years. There is no paper-

work to fill out, there will only be two

drop off days per week, and the school

will deliver the food to Brookfield. If

you would be interested in helping out

please call Brooke at 731 697 6103, or

email her at [email protected].

Letters Received from the Youth of Our Church this Week

Family and Friends of the Paris First United Methodist Church,

From 1843 to the mid 1930’s, the poor and ill of Henry County who struggled to live day-to-day on their own were

moved away to the County Home. This home allowed those hopeless people to have a place to grow food, be with their

families and live out the rest of their days. Upon the residents’ death, they were buried on a small plot of land near the

house, which is now known as the County Home Cemetery.

Unfortunately, after their burials, none of these graves were marked and no gravestones were placed for remem-

brance. This sad reality was recently brought to light by Mayor Brent Greer and the Henry County Cemetery Committee.

In 2015, research was requested by Mayor Breer to recover the lost identities of those buried in this historic cemetery.

This research revealed that there were around sixty people buried there. In 2017, a dedication ceremony was held to pre-

serve the memory of those who were once forgotten. At the ceremony Mayor Greer and the Henry County Cemetery

Committee requested that a local Boy Scout mark the graves as an Eagle Scout project. Because of this intriguing past, I

have chosen to take on this project as my own and will be constructing crosses of PVC pipes to mark each grave. Roughly

thirty are able to be located and will have a cross directly for the specific grave, however, for those that cannot be located,

additional crosses will be lined across the front of the cemetery. The hope of this project is that we will not only be able

to preserve the memory of these people, but also that we may preserve this important piece of history for generations to

come.

In preparation for this project, I am asking for donations from our community. I have estimated that it will require

around $700 to complete this project. I have listed needed supplies below and hope that community support will help me

to acquire these. Throughout my life, I have seen the Henry County community come together for a variety of projects,

and I would be greatly appreciative of any monetary or supply donations. If you have any questions, or would like to do-

nate, do not hesitate to contact me at 731 363 8293.

Sincerely,

Gage Starks, Boy Scout Troop 28

Supplies needed:

Dear FUMC,

I would like to thank the congregation of First United Methodist Church for your generosity and support in the

continuing of my education. I am very thankful to have been selected as the recipient of the Mildred Pritchard Robertson

Scholarship for the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you, Morgan Nance

Dear FUMC,

I want to say thank you so much for once again giving me the Pris Lemons scholarship! It truly does help me so

much! This scholarship is helping me to reach my goals and aspirations by taking away some of the financial burden that I

face while going through college. Because of your help, I was once again able to finish with a 4.0 at the University of

Mississippi. So I was very excited! I am thankful that I grew up in a church that pours so much into its youth. I do not

know where I would be if it wasn't for our church family and how much they have supported me throughout my life!

Once again thank you so much for the scholarship, prayers and continuing support, Tori Starks

Prelude “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” June Feger and Michael Holden

Welcome and Announcements Rev. Joy Weathersbee

Opening Songs Ensemble: June Feger, Jim Merrell, Chuck Haney, Brooke Cagle and Michael Holden

“Crown Him with Many Crowns”.

Crown Him with many crowns, the lamb upon the throne: Hark! How the heav'nly anthem drowns all music but its own!

Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed o’re the grave, And rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.

His glories how we sing, who died, and rose on high, Who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise.

His reign shall know no end, and round His pierced feet Fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of love; behold His hands and side, Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified. All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me;

Thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.

“Lord, I Lift Your Name on High” Lord, I lift your name on high; Lord, I love to sing your praises. I’m so glad you’re in my life; I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth, to show the way, from the earth to the cross, my debt to pay.

From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky; Lord, I lift your name on high. (Repeat)

“He is Exalted” He is exalted, the King is exalted on high; I will praise him. He is exalted, forever exalted and I will praise his name!

He is the Lord, for ever His truth shall reign; Heaven and earth rejoice in His holy name.

He is exalted, the King is exalted on high. (Repeat)

Song “I Will Rise” Ensemble

There's a peace I've come to know though my heart and flesh may fail There's an anchor for my soul, I can say, "It is well" Jesus has overcome and the grave is overwhelmed

The victory is won; He is risen from the dead And I will rise when He calls my name, no more sorrow, no more pain

I will rise on eagles' wings before my God fall on my knees And rise, I will rise.

There's a day that's drawing near when this darkness breaks to light

And the shadows disappear and my faith shall be my eyes Jesus has overcome and the grave is overwhelmed

The victory is won He is risen from the dead And I will rise when He calls my name no more sorrow, no more pain

I will rise on eagles' wings before my God fall on my knees And rise; I will rise.

And I hear the voice of many angels sing, "Worthy is the Lamb" And I hear the cry of every longing heart, "Worthy is the Lamb" And I hear the voice of many angels sing, "Worthy is the Lamb" And I hear the cry of every longing heart, "Worthy is the Lamb"

And I will rise when He calls my name, no more sorrow, no more pain I will rise on eagles' wings, before my God fall on my knees

And rise, I will rise. Message “Is It Time Yet?” Rev. Joy Weathersbee

Hymn “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” Ensemble

Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia! Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing, ye heav’ns and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia! Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia! Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia! Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia! Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia! Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia! Foll’wing our exalted Head, Alleluia! Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
