WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO

2018-2020 STRATEGIC PLAN

GROW EDC CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AVIATION CLUSTER STUDY – PHASE II

Greater Oshkosh will be implementing a transformative and targeted strategic plan designed to transform the regional business and economic climate by increasing the region’s overall personal wealth, business profitability, community investments and standard of living – measured against other regions. The primary focus of our updated strategic plan includes the following initiatives:

The GROW EDC Capital Campaign will fund the work we do over the next three years as envisioned in our new strategic plan. The goal of this campaign isn’t to just grow the numbers on our annual report, it’s to grow and improve the quality of life, expand wealth and enhance the overall business climate here in the greater Oshkosh region.

Greater Oshkosh contracted with the City of Oshkosh as a sub-recipient to implement the second phase of the Department of Defense (DoD) Aviation Cluster Study. Under Phase II of the contract, Greater Oshkosh is implementing business plans for two specific aerospace clusters – Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Additive Manufacturing.

LUNCH & LEARN SERIES

AEROSPACE MANUFACTURING

AN INITIATIVE 41 PROGRAM

The organization will feature events such as Talent Takeoff, a recruitment initiative aimed at increasing the regional aviation workforce, and a Lunch & Learn series designed for aerospace manufacturers to connect and share knowledge on best practices. Staff attended AirVenture 2017 to invigorate connections in the aviation industry and learn about challenges and opportunities the industry faces.

Greater Oshkosh awarded five grants and two loans totaling $125,000.00 to six different companies in 2017 through the Greater Oshkosh Capital Catalyst Fund.

One of the two Greater Oshkosh Revolving Loan Fund recipients has paid off their remaining loan balance in early 2017. Staff is always working with prospects for the Revolving Loan Fund and Capital Catalyst Fund.

The Greater Oshkosh Industrial Development Committee modernized and approved changes to the Industrial Park Covenants to be more aligned with the City of Oshkosh’s recently updated zoning ordinance. Staff is currently in the process of officially implementing these updates with legal counsel.

Greater Oshkosh sponsored, co-hosted and assisted in the coordination of Insight Magazine’s 8th Annual InDevelopment Conference that took place in Oshkosh earlier this year. The conference highlighted several exciting projects in our region, including the development of the Oshkosh Arena and the Sawdust District.

Workshop presenters walked attendees through the development process for sites affected by wetlands and how to overcome potential complications that can create project delays or additional costs.

Workshop presenters discussed available tax-exempt financing for manufacturers who are growing or expanding that could potentially save them 35% on a loan through a bank.

Greater Oshkosh partnered with economic developers along the Interstate 41 corridor to meet with officials from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to discuss the Fast Forward workforce training program. Workforce officials listened to ways the program could be altered to make the program more usable to businesses.

Greater Oshkosh hosted nearly 150 partners at the Investor Appreciation Event to update stakeholders on current projects and initiatives. Keynote speaker, Oshkosh Corporation CEO Wilson Jones, spoke to the importance of a people-first culture and how that mindset has led to 100 Years of Making a Difference as Oshkosh Corporation celebrates their 100-year anniversary in 2017.

Additionally, Greater Oshkosh nominated Oshkosh Corporation for WEDA’s 2017 Economic Driver Award, which the company won because of its far-reaching economic impact.
