The Assembly Sits

+ LITURGY OF THE WORD +

After Each reading: A: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

THE first reading ISAIAH 35: 5-8

PSALM PSALM 124

If the LORD had not been on our side,

let Israel now say;

if the LORD had not been on our side,

when enemies rose up against us,

then would they have swallowed us up alive

in their fierce anger toward us;

then would the waters have overwhelmed us

and the torrent gone over us;

then would the raging waters

have gone right over us.

Blessed be the LORD!

He has not given us over to be a prey for their teeth.

We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler;

the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

Our help is in the name of the LORD,

the maker of heaven and earth.

THE SECOND READING ii timothy 4:5-11a

THE HYMN OF THE DAY PROFESSION OF FAITH APOSTLES’ CREED

A. With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born

of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the

communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

(+)the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

HEALING PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

With CONFESSION AND FORGIVNESS and

HEALING BLESSING

(all who are able may kneel for the Prayers on this day)

God the Father, your will for all people is health and salvation;

We praise and thank you, O Lord.

God the Son, Jesus Christ, you came that we might have life, and might have it more abundantly;

We praise and thank you, O Lord.

God the Holy Spirit, you make our bodies the temple of your presence;

We praise and thank you, O Lord.

Holy Trinity, one God, in you we live and move and have our being;

We praise and thank you, O Lord.

Lord, grant your healing grace to all who are sick, injured, or disabled, that they may be made whole, (especially those we name); Let us pray:

Hear us, O Lord of life.

Grant to all who seek your guidance, and to all who are lonely, anxious, or despondent, a knowledge of your will and an awareness of your presence;

Hear us, O Lord of life.

Mend broken relationships, and restore those in emotional distress to soundness of mind and serenity of spirit;

Hear us, O Lord of life.

Bless physicians, nurses, and all others who minister to the suffering, granting them wisdom and skill, sympathy and patience;

Hear us, O Lord of life.

Grant to the dying peace and a holy death, and uphold by the grace and consolation of your Holy Spirit those who are bereaved;

Hear us, O Lord of life.

Restore to wholeness whatever is broken by human sin, in our lives, in our nation, and in the world;

Hear us, O Lord of life.

(Here other intercessions may be offered, aloud or silently, by the congregation).

You are the Lord who does wonders;

You have declared your power among the peoples.

With you, O Lord, is the well of life;

And in your light we see light.

Hear us, O Lord of life; Heal us and make us whole.

P: O Lord our God, look upon the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

P: Let us confess our sins before God and in the presence of one another.

(Silence for reflection)

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

P: God our loving and gracious Father, through the life, death, and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ, has reconciled the world to himself, and has committed to his Church the ministry of healing and reconciliation. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ and by his authority, I declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the Name of the Father [+] and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

P: The Almighty Lord, who is a most strong tower to all who put their trust in him, to whom all things in heaven, on earth, and under the earth bow and obey: Be now and evermore your defense, and enable you to believe and know that the only Name under heaven given for healing, health and salvation is the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

May the hand of the Lord be upon you to uphold you and fill you with his grace, that you may know the healing power of his love. Amen.
