I would suggest doing one a day just like we would do at school as a daily literacy lesson. 1. Create a story map of the Great Kapok tree. 2. Use your story map to act out the different steps in the story. 3. Using your story map, add in some written ideas to help you remember what happens on each page. 4. We are going to look at the book, The great Kapok Tree, by Lynne Cherry:

What is it going to be about where do you think it is set?

Listen to the story here:

PowerPoint attached in this pack.

Using the PPT to help you and the video of me storytelling, complete the following activities. I would suggest doing one a day just like we would do at school as a daily literacy lesson.

1. Create a story map of the Great Kapok tree.2. Use your story map to act out the different steps in the story. 3. Using your story map, add in some written ideas to help you remember what happens on each page. 4. Have a go at writing the story yourself, see how much you can remember by only using your story map to

For spellings this term I would like you to focus on the words from the year 3 and 4 spelling list. You should be able to spell them, understand what they mean and be able to use them in a sentence. REMEMBER that this is to be done over the whole term not in 1 week. Learning too many all in one go will mean that you will not remember them. Focus on between 5-10 a week depending on your confidence.

In our story, The Great Kapok Tree, there is lots of descriptions. Create a list of Adjectives (words that describe a noun) and Adverbs (words that describe a verb) that you can find in the story.

Maths –

This week I would like you to focus on the properties of shape. This means the things that make a shape a certain shape. You need to be able to use mathematical language to describe different 2D shapes.

The BBC bitesize has some good clips to look at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvmxsbk

Here are 2 different games you can play to help you think about the properties of shape:

1. You could play guess my shape. One person draws a shape on their piece of paper and does not let the person they are playing with see. They then have to describe their shape using the vocabulary below to help them so that their partner can draw an identical shape on their paper.

2. You could also play the yes/no game. Someone thinks of the shape. The person they are playing against has to then ask them questions but they can only be answered with yes or no. For example: Does your shape have straight sides? The aim is to guess what shape your partner is thinking of.

shapes to use: isosceles triangle, equilateral triangle, right angled triangle, scalene triangle, square, rectangle, circle, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, parallelogram, trapezium, and rhombus, quadrilateral

Vocabulary to use: Parallel, Lines of symmetry, Regular shape, Irregular shape, Curved, Straight, corners, Sides

This maths dictionary online should help you to understand any of the shapes or vocabulary that you do not understand:

Project –

Our topic this term is all about the Amazon Rainforest. In my email this week I asked you to think about things you already know and things you want to find out about this project. Just like a KWL grid that we always complete at the start of a new unit of work. If you would like to record your ideas here is an example of the KWL grid, you could print it out or design your own!

Next we always create a project cover for our project books. It would be great to collect all of your project work over the coming weeks in one place so that you can see all of your amazing home learning. You could use a scrap book if you have one, a folder or even a paper clip to keep everything together. Here is our project cover that you can print out. If you don’t have a printer then design your own Rainforest project cover!

This week I would like you to think about the question: What is a rainforest?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JDocMmxLOo (this is not in the amazon rainforest)

Here is some of the vocabulary that we are going to need to know for this project. Research what each word means and record what it. This could be through writing/drawing/pictures, whatever you would like.

Take a look at our virtual school trip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsV5rqbVNQ

Now can you add any more questions to your KWL grid about what you would like to find out about this project?
