PAT group instructions: PAT spellings group I have included the resources we use in the weekly PAT interventions, plus the spelling lists needed which you see each week. You will see a matching sounds activity (see preview below) – the children are now able to do this independently and should be able to tell you what they should be doing. If they’ve forgotten however, here’s how to do it. 1. Discuss the phonemes, blends and any rule that might apply. 2. Use the alphabet using the sounds and blends to create words. Your child might automatically cross out the vowel sounds, which is the right thing to do. 3. List new words in each column as shown in the picture. 4. Once completed, go through and double check they have every possibility they can find. If you can think of any more, add them in and discuss the word with your child.

PAT spellings group

I have included the resources we use in the weekly PAT interventions, plus the spelling lists needed which you see each week.

You will see a matching sounds activity (see preview below) – the children are now able to do this independently and should be able to tell you what they should be doing. If they’ve forgotten however, here’s how to do it.

1. Discuss the phonemes, blends and any rule that might apply.2. Use the alphabet using the sounds and blends to create words. Your child might automatically cross out the

vowel sounds, which is the right thing to do.3. List new words in each column as shown in the picture.4. Once completed, go through and double check they have every possibility they can find. If you can think of

any more, add them in and discuss the word with your child.

Complete the spellings sheet which is usually sent home as per how you complete it normally.

I have also uploaded the speed sounds sheet. This is something I get the children to read through at the start of every Guided Reading session before focussing on a sound as part of a story. I usually do this at least once a week, but if you can do this daily, it would be extremely beneficial.

Finally, I have uploaded the reading activity that we use (preview below). Ask your child to read the words aloud and circle words that are not known. Then, get your child to create their own sentences using these words plus any others from the words they are studying that week, or create your own dictations using these words.
