We love reading and now is the perfect time to get stuck into a book. Have a look at our Can You….? Reading Challenges and see which ones you can tick off! Send us a photo of you doing one of the reading challenges and we will pop it on our website. We particularly love the idea of reading to someone over the phone or video chat. Science LO: I can discuss the fruit and vegetables that I eat.In your home learning book, make a list of the

fruit and vegetables that you ate yesterday. Did you eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables? Begin to discuss the importance of trying to incorporate 5 portions of fruit and vegetables in our diet.

RE LO: I understand why we use symbols and why the cross is a sign of Christianity.Discuss what a symbol is and look at any symbols that you have around the house.

Have you seen these symbols before?

Look at how the symbol of the cross is used to represent Christianity. The cross is used as a symbol because Christians believe that Jesus died on a cross. Can you design a symbol

to represent your family and draw it in your home learning books? Think about activities that you like doing together, where you live etc.

Music LO: I can explore rhythm and pitch through a simple song.

This half term, we are going to focus on a BBC unit based around fruit and vegetables, which links really well with our Science work. There are lots of fun songs to help develop the children’s understanding of pitch (high and low sounds), keeping a steady beat and a change in tempo (speed). Above all have fun! From this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/music-ks1-music-food-fest-index/zhmyf4jListen to song no. 2 ’The kitchen sink’This is a fun action song featuring pots, pans, forks, spoons, mugs and plates!Experiment further with kitchen objects. As well as rhythm, discover the pitch (higher and lower) and the textures of sound that they can make together. Can you record kitchen sounds (eg tap-drips, pouring water, fork prongs, pots and pans, mugs and plates)? Enjoy!

Geography LO: To identify land and sea on a map. To understand the term coast and to identify places by the sea in the UK

Look again at your maps, atlases, and globes. Talk about how the sea is usually represented in blue. Talk about the coast being the area where the land meets the sea or ocean. There can be seasides at the coast like the one you talked about last week, but coasts can also be cliffs, dunes or marshes. Why would people usually choose to visit a sandy coastal area with a beach rather than cliffs or marshes?Have a look at the sheet of the British Isles below. (What can you remember about the British Isles from last half term?) Can you name and label the 4 countries? Can

you circle the places that are by the sea? Can you colour the sea in?For an extra challenge find and label another place by the sea in each country (maybe even ones that you have visited!)

Art LO: To know about the life of JMW Turner and his artistic style.

Look at the PPT ‘Pictures by Turner.’ At the end, discuss what all of those paintings have in common (sea, waves, boats/ shops, clouds, storms etc) and jot these down in your home learning book – we will need this list when we create our own Turner inspired painting!Next, take a look at the PPT ‘Turner’s Life,’ then in your home learning book write down 5 facts you have learnt about Turner. (You can do this as a list or as a mind map with a picture of Turner in the middle.)

Stay Active We haven’t received many photos yet so we are going to stay with the letters A-H in the ‘Staying Active Alphabet Challenge!’ to give you a bit more time!We want to put together a collection of photos that show how we have been staying active…. in all sorts of ways. So for example…

A- aerobics, athleticsB- bouncing, balancing, beanbag throwC- cycling, circuits, cricketD- dancing, dodgeball E-elastics, egg and spoon raceF- football, frisbeeG- gymnastics,H- hula hooping, hopscotch, handstands

You get the idea, we’re sure you will be able to think of lots of other brilliant activities! Take a photo of you doing an activity beginning with any of these letters and email it to us. I wonder how many you can try out? Can you get your whole family involved? You could take a letter a day or create your own alphabet activities circuit….the aim is to stay active and have fun! Let’s see if we can get through the whole alphabet!

Let’s keep safe, keep happy and carry on learning!

Best Wishes,

Mrs Robinson and Mrs Turner [email protected]
