November 27, 2012 11/27/2012, Abbi was reading the book Pat Me Gently. As I was reading to book to her
and said the words “pat me gently”, Abbi would repeat the phrase and pet the animal’s fur in the book.
11/27/2012, while Abbi was reading the book Pat Me Gently, and when it was brought out she pointed at the dog on the cover and said “dog, dog”! As she flipped through the pages she pointed out each animal saying what it was.
Next step
The next step for Abbi would be to start encouraging her to read aloud different stories that she knows, compared to repeating what her teacher says
Core Standard 2 & 3: Reading Informational and Literary Text3: Distinguishes print from pictures
November 27, 2012 11/27/2012, Abbi was looking at the Colors book. As she flipped through the pages she
would say what each color was. She would then say the names of the items that were that color on the page, but would ask for the help for the items she did not know.
Next step The next step would be to help encourage her to try and say the names of the items that
she doesn’t know before asking a teacher for help.
Core Standard 4 & 5: Writing Informational and Literacy Text3: Creates writing with the intention of communicating & 3: Talks about characters and settings
November 6, 2012 11/6/2012, Abbi was at the art table
scribbling on a piece of paper. When I asked her what she was drawing a picture of she pointed out three different scribbles. She said “this is Abbi, mommy, & daddy”.
11/8/2012, Abbi was constructing a picture with small construction paper pieces that represented a house. Abbi then looked up at me and said “this is mommy, daddy, & Abbi’s house”.
Next Step
The next step would be to start to expose Abbi to different shapes that might represent what a person might look like compared to using scribbles.
Core Standard 6: English Language Conventions3: Copies specific writing marks
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi was at the art easel drawing a
picture with chalk. When I asked her to imitate the circle I drew, she drew a circle. Abbi also drew many different straight, vertical, & horizontal lines.
Next step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to use these various writing strokes so she has more experience with them.
Core Standard 7: Listening and Speaking4: Follows directions with steps and descriptions & 3: Uses two-word phrases or signs
November 20, 2012 & November 29, 2012 11/20/2012, it was time for snack and I looked at Abbi & said “Abbi, please go wash
your hands for snack time”. She responded by running over to the sink and washing her hands.
11/29/2012, Abbi was sitting in the tire swing. She then yelled “Miss Tharp, I need help”, when she wanted to be pushed in the tire swing.
Next step
The next step would be to have her follow more detailed directions that are more than two-steps.
ISTAR-Mathematics
Core Standard 1: Number Sense3: Uses numbers to compare, 3: Makes a set of objects smaller or larger
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi was at the discovery table playing with the colored feathers. When I
asked her to pull out three yellow feathers and two blue, she pulled out the five feathers and said, “Three yellow & two blue”.
11/29/2012, Abbi was playing with the pull apart colored beads. When I asked her to make a big necklace with them she added more beads so it was longer, and took away beads to make it smaller.
11/6//2012, Abbi was at the science and math table matching the crayon pieces with the one they belonged with. She matched each piece with the correct color.
Next step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to compare different objects on her own instead of having a teacher initiate it.
Core Standard 2: Geometry and Measurement2: Uses vocabulary to identify events in a routine, 3: Follows directions involving location, 2: distinguish between big and little, hot & cold & 4: Sorting & classifying objects
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi was playing with the pull
apart beads and looked up at one of her teachers and said, “Clean up for circle time?”
11/29/2012, Abbi placed the pull-apart beads back where they belonged when she was
asked. 11/6/2012, Abbi was at the discovery table
interacting with the oats. She poured the oats in different measuring cups back and forth.
11/8/2012, Abbi was doing a picture at the art table. She used different pieces of paper to make different patterns & groups on her paper.
Next step
The next step for Abbi would be to manipulate more objects in the discovery table that involved measurement so that she continues to compare more objects.
ISTAR- Personal Care
Core Standard 1: Oral3: Uses tongue to move and munch solid food
November 29, 2012 11/29/12, Abbi ate her graham cracker & soy butter. When soy butter was on her lips she
would sweep her tongue around her mouth to get the extra soy butter off.
Next step
The next step for Abbi would be to encourage her to chew food with her lips together more often.
Core Standard 2: Self-Feeding4: Uses utensils & open cup to feed self
November 29, 2012 11/29/12, Abbi ate her graham cracker & soy butter without any assistance. She drank
from her sippy cup without spilling.

The next step would be to encourage Abbi to use more of her utensils to scoop food onto her plate
Core Standard 3: Dressing/Undressing2: Assists in dressing/undressing
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi helped put on her shoes to go outdoors. She left them unfastened and
waited for a teacher to help her fasten them.
Next Step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to fasten her shoes on her own, as well as helping with putting her coat on.
Core Standard 4: Care of hands, face, nose2: Assists in personal care routines
November 20, 2012 11/20/12, Abbi washed her hands with water and soap. When she was done she tried her
hands.

The next step would be to have Abbi wipe her nose & face when dirty without assistance.
Core Standard 5: Toileting2: Participates in toileting
November 29, 2012 11/29/12, Abbi communicated that she needed her diaper changed. When I asked her to
come over the changing table so that she could get her diaper changed she did so.

The next step for Abbi would be to encourage her to have more experience on the toilet.
ISTAR- Physical
Core Standard 1: Sensory Integration2: Tolerates a variety of sensory input
November 29, 2012 11/29/12, Abbi tolerated touch when she played ring around the rosy with her friend
Katelyn. 10/18/12, Abbi tolerated being messy at the art table, while she painted a tree with her
fingers.
Next Step
The next step for Abbi would be to have her tolerate a variety of more things and to calm herself without assistance when she dislikes something.
Core Standard 2: Physical Stability4: Demonstrates stability, balance, and control in upright position
November 29, 2012 11/29/12, Abbi is able to stand independently in an upright position, and get up off the
ground on her own.
Next step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to try & walk along the balance beams around the playground on her own to further her balance.
Core Standard 3: Gross Motor Skills4: Coordinates forward movementNovember 29, 2012
11/29/12, Abbi ran outside with her friends. She ran for a short distance, from one end of the playground to another.
Next step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to do more forward movements, such as skipping, hopping, & riding tricycles.
Core Standard 4: Object Control4: Throws, catches & kicks objects
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi was pushing her friend Katelyn in
the tire swing. She used both hands in the middle of her body to push the tired swing back and forth, releasing the swing each time.

The next step would be to have Abbi catch & kick more balls on the playground to further her object control
Core Standard 5: Precision Hand Skills3: Uses fingers of two hands to complete activities
November 6, 2012
11/6/2012, Abbi used one hand to color with a crayon and the other hand to hold on to the house she was coloring to complete her artwork.
Next step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to use scissors more the cut along a line.
ISTAR- Social Emotional
Core Standard 1: Sense of Self and others3: Engages with others
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi shared and took turns with Cora playing with a toy. She needed some
assistance at first but after continued to share with Cora
Next Step
The next step for Abbi would be to encourage the respect of others properties instead of taking away a toy to play with that another child was playing with.
Core Standard 2: Manages Emotions3: Manages emotions with adult assistance
November 29, 2012
11/29/12, One of Abbi’s friends came up behind her to give her a hug and Abbi expressed fear and dislike. Once a teacher assisted her she was able to manage her emotions.

The next step would be to encourage Abbi to manage her emotions on her own.
Core Standard 3: Interpersonal Skills3: Interacts with others
November 29, 2012 11/29/12, Abbi interacted in a group activity and played ring around the rosy with her
friends outdoors.

The next step would be to encourage Abbi to take turns when playing different games or with different toys.
Core Standard 4: Responsibility2: Follows familiar routines
November 29, 2012
11/29/2012, Abbi participated in circle time. She followed all the familiar yoga moves during gross motor as well.

The next step would be to encourage her to clean up her mess when she is finished with an activity.
Core Standard 5: Problem Solving3: Searches for possible solutions
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi was playing with the pull apart beads and when she came across a bead
that would not stay attached to the other, she said “oh no it came apart, help me”.
Next Step
The next step would be to encourage Abbi to do trial and error on her own and figure out solutions without assistance.
Core Standard 6: Learning
2: Sustains attention to preferred activities
November 29, 2012 11/29/2012, Abbi showed curiosity in the art activity and worked on the activity through
many other distractions going on in the room.Next Step
The next step for Abbi would be to encourage her to work on what is beyond easy when completing a task.
