May 11th, 2013 marked the FIRST Annual Vince Morris 5k Walk/Run, and Dr. Betts 5k combined, held at the dedicated Vince Morris Trail at Chapel Branch in memory of Athletic Director Vince Morris, a frequent caretaker of the cross country team's course. Lately the involvement of the Nanticoke Watershed has had a large influence in maintenance, care, and the attention this site needs thanks to tireless volunteers.
With the first 5 registrants receiving t shirts, as well as custom made trophies this year honoring Dr. Betts and Vince’s dedication to events that tie the community together, all runners and walkers are welcome.
Registration forms available at harrybrake.wordpress.com starting February today and due for early registration by May 05, 2018 – and can be sent to Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy. Checks can be made out to Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy, and a transparent report will be made to all registrants so you will see the proceeds earned, and that half of all proceeds will benefit the local Cancer Association, while half goes to maintaining aspects of Chapel Branch.
Again, preregistration will be due May 5, 2018 via mail as listed above. Any questions can be directed at [email protected]. Also, registration can be physically dropped off in a marked envelope at Lank, Johnson, and Tull up to May 4th, 2018 – Registration will be verified via email once received - (open weekdays only) for preregistration, located at 521 N Market St, Seaford, DE 19973.
All proceeds will be marked and tagged with the results of the 5k, so you will be informed of where your donations go, as well as this being tax deductible, so you can do this again each year for the great causes these 5k’s benefit in memory of these two invaluable heroes to Seaford. The walk/run will begin at 8:45 AM but a brief tour and walk showing key points you will need to look out for BEFORE the event will occur at 8:00 AM. For the first time, a new part of the trail will be utilized as part of this walk/run to show you the extensions of Chapel Branch.
In addition, The Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy (a local land trust), who initiated the 6-foot Kiosk at the trail, along with partnering groups such as Invista, The Sussex Bird Club, PAVE, KKids, The Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy, and the Seaford Cross Country Team have helped maintain and expand the options available at The Vince Morris Trail at Chapel Branch as well have continued to update/maintain over the trail among others listed here.

All are invited to be a part of this tribute to Vince Morris as well as continue to expand the programs available to promote an awareness of conservation and education. The number of awards will be trimmed back slightly to help establish a permanent following for this event, but will increase as numbers increase to insure the permanent successful nature of this event. Three awards for best overall (Male and Female) and top in each age category for Male AND Female will be given (see age breakdowns on application). Daughters and Mothers will generously receive flowers from Seaford Florist as supplies last in honor of Mother’s Day.
Dr. Susan J. Betts was a lifelong member of the Seaford Community. She loved caring for her many optometry patients and serving the
needs of this community.
Susan loved the beach and spent many summers enjoying the ocean. She was a runner a skier. She also had a passion for horseback riding.
She enjoyed physical activity; being out-of-doors was very important to Susan and she would feel honored to be remembered by others
supporting Relay for Life.

Entry Fee: $18 pre-registration entry with the first 5 registrants guaranteed a shirt. (RECEIVED by May 05, 018); $25.00 day of registration (fee includes certificate, timing results, and memento).
