CMS Lab B Cleanroom Specifications for Bids 1. Introduction The CMS experiment requires a low particle count cleanroom for assembly and testing of the HGCal detector cassettes. CMS Lab B Cleanroom Specifications for Bids

1. Introduction

The CMS experiment requires a low particle count cleanroom for assembly and testing of the HGCal

detector cassettes. The details of this cleanroom are specified below.

2. Description of work

2.1. The seller of this cleanroom shall furnish all facilities, equipment, special tooling,

consumables, and material, except where explicitly excluded in this specification, and perform

all work and services necessary to generate fabrication drawings, fabricate, deliver, assemble

and test a fully functional cleanroom in strict accordance with this specification.

2.2. The seller of the clean room shall provide all existing building modifications to accommodate

the new clean room.

2.3.[2.2.] The seller of this cleanroom shall provide documentation as required in section 5 of this

specification.

3. Details of installation site

3.1. The cleanroom shall be installed in the Fermilab “Lab B” facility in Batavia, Illinois. The

seller is responsible for examining the existing Lab B building and surrounding areas for

familiarization with all existing conditions and to incorporate all existing conditions that may

affect the offer.

3.2. 240 VAC 60 Hz 3-phase power and 120 VAC 60 Hz 1-phase power is available for cleanroom

use.

3.2.1. The cleanroom must run on any combination of these power sources.

3.3. The existing Lab B is equipped with unit heaters and a package AC unit.

3.3.1.[3.2.2.] The temperature of Lab B currently varies between 70F and 76F.

3.3.2.[3.2.3.] The humidity of Lab B currently varies between 45% and 80%.

3.4. Lab B has an existing fire suppression and fire alarm system.

4. Functional requirements

4.1. The cleanroom shall have an exterior space 39’x 28’=1092 sq.ft, including a 70 sq.ft gowning

room, see figure for details.

4.2. The cleanroom shall have a floor to filter face height of 12 feet.

4.3.[4.2.] The cleanroom shall be ISO 7 (FED STD 209E Class 10,000 equivalent) per ISO 14644-

1, latest edition.

4.4.[4.3.] The cleanroom walls shall be constructed of opaque white polypropylene with static

dissipative PVC windows.

4.5.[4.4.] The cleanroom shall have a gowning area 10’ x 7’ with a single swing SDPVC entry

door and a single swing SDPVC door into the cleanroom. The exterior height of the gowning

area cannot exceed 10’.

4.6.[4.5.] The cleanroom shall have a 12’ wide and full height (~12’) rollup door.

4.7.[4.6.] The cleanroom shall have air conditioning and humidity control to keep the space

between 68 F and 75 F and between 30% and 50% RH year round.

4.8.[4.7.] The HVAC equipment is to be located outside of Lab B, on the 43’ side of the

cleanroom.

4.9.[4.8.] The cleanroom ceiling lighting shall be LED. Provide 75 foot-candles measured 30”

above finish floor. Ceiling lighting shall be dimmable.

4.10.[4.9.] The cleanroom power panel shall be located on the South East exterior wall, bottom left

corner on the drawing.

4.11.[4.10.] The cleanroom shall have 20 120VAC duplex outlets uniformly spread along the

walls.

4.12.[4.11.] The cleanroom shall have 2 240VAC single phase duplex outlets.

4.13.[4.12.] The cleanroom shall have 2 240VAC three phase duplex outlets.

4.14.[4.13.] “Lab B” is a fully sprinklered building and as such, fire sprinkler protection should be

extended into the clean room, in accordance with NFPA 13, 2016 Edition and NFPA 318,

2018 Edition, Section 11.1.4.1.

4.15.[4.14.] Smoke detection is to be provided in accordance with NFPA 318, Section 11.1.3.1.

4.16.[4.15.] The polypropylene, soft walls, need to have a fire resistance rating by ASTM

E119, Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, or

ANSI/UL 263, Standard for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, in accordance

with NFPA 318, Section 4.4.

4.17.[4.16.] The high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) modules, or ultra-low penetration air

(ULPA) filter modules, and pre- or final filters in makeup and recirculation air-handling units

are to meet ANSI/UL 900, Standard for Air Filter Units.

4.18.[4.17.] The seller of this cleanroom shall perform the work necessary to connect the

cleanroom sprinkler system with the existing Lab B system.

4.19.[4.18.] The seller of this cleanroom shall perform the work necessary to connect the

cleanroom power panel to the existing electrical panel in Lab B.

4.20. The seller of this cleanroom shall perform the work necessary to connect the cleanroom

fire alarm to the existing fire alarm panel located in adjoining Lab A. The existing fire alarm is

Siemens Model MXL (addressable) type fire alarm system.

4.21.[4.19.] The seller of this cleanroom shall provide design drawings for the cleanroom,

sprinkler system modifications, fire alarm and electrical system modifications for review and

approval by Fermilab.

[4.20.] All existing building modifications and new cleanroom work shall be performed in

accordance with the 2015 International Building Code, NFPA 70E 2018, and NEC 70 2017

and Fermilab FESS Design Guide (http://fess.fnal.gov/engineering-guides-standards/ ).

5.1. Data sheets, including fan curves, fan motor data, and sound data information for any fans in

the system.

5.2. Data sheets for each filter type to be provided with the cleanroom.

5.3. Data sheets for other miscellaneous units, such as heaters, coolers, ultrasonic humidifiers,

condensation pumps, etc.

5.4. Equipment drawing(s) which will indicate major unit dimensions, major component locations

within the unit, duct connection locations and sizes, access door locations, required building

electrical service, and required service clearances.

5.5. Detailed 2D mechanical drawings, process flow diagrams, schematics, and sequence of

operations for all devices in all modes.

5.6. Detailed existing building modifications design drawings and new mechanical equipment

drawings to be submitted for review and approval by Fermilab prior to clean room

fabrications.

5.7. Provide as-built specifications and drawings (in AutoCAD) of all modifications to the existing

building and new systems.
