Kindergarten: This week we worked on descriptive words such as quick, slippery and loud. We read the book Quick as a Cricket. Then we did an activity where we matched the animal to the descriptive word. Finally, we wrote sentences using the descriptive words and the animals. We also continued our work in our Language Boosters 1st Grade: We worked on nonfiction text features this week. Nonfiction text features are parts of nonfiction text that help us understand the text more deeply. Some text features we learned about were title, heading, key words, photo, glossary, map, and caption. Then we made nonfiction text features books that showed examples of the features from real magazines. First graders also earned a game day, in which we reviewed vocabulary words from throughout the year.2nd Grade: This week we read several nonfiction texts. We read and discussed the texts and then filled out graphic organizers that encompassed who, what, when, where, why and how. We read about echoes, animal sleep habits, lightening, polar bears and clothes of the past. 2nd graders also earned a game day, on which we reviewed vocabulary words from throughout of the year.3 rd Grade: This week we began our study of nonfiction text structures. This week we started with sequence. We read three texts about Antartica. We first read haiku poems about Antartica. Then we read and discussed a very interesting article on early Antartica explorers. Then we went back and recorded the main events into a sequence graphic organizer.
