Press Release Autumn 2015

Maximalist metallicsWhen the Bjørn Wiinblad brand was revived last year in a new and more up-to-date version, it also marked the return of “maximalism” to Danish design. Bjørn Wiinblad’s fantastical motifs celebrate the opulent and extravagant in everyday objects, and in this regard, there is no escaping metallics. This autumn, Bjørn Wiinblad Denmark is therefore launching a brand new collection of bonbonnières, candlesticks and vases with motifs in silver and gold, all are dedicated to the metallic mega-trend while remaining faithful to the Wiinblad design heritage.

As an artist, Bjørn Wiinblad possessed a multitude of talents, leaving his distinctive mark on everything from ceramics to theatre scenery and tapestries. His motto was “Give people pleasure” and it is nearly impossible not to be affected by the joie de vivre behind the elaborately decorated flowers, birds and curvaceous female figures that make up Wiinblad’s DNA in a style that is almost oriental in nature. There is no less is more about Wiinblad, who also had a penchant for bright colours. Blues, greens, yellows – he made use of the entire palette, including the golden metallic hues, which he borrowed from the Orient and which are currently a very strong trend in contemporary interior design.

This autumn, Bjørn Wiinblad Denmark calls attention to a new type of maximalism with the introduction of a series of new products featuring metallic decorations in gold and silver on white porcelain. Despite their brilliance, the metallics actually add a degree of simplicity to Wiinblad’s unique stroke, which stands out in sharp graphic contrast to the white background, turning this season’s new bonbonnières, vases and candlesticks into statement pieces in the contemporary home.

Aladdin’s cave and the modern-day Christmas bazaarDecorating with metal is easy in the Scandinavian home, where small, well-chosen pieces have a strong impact against the backdrop of white surfaces, natural materials and clean lines. One or more Rosalinde candlesticks with silver motifs on a windowsill maintains a classic, cool and New Nordic look, while a voluptuous, gold-adorned Rosalinde vase on the dining table adds warmth and a sense of Aladdin’s cave. The Mascarade, Aida and Narcisse bonbonnières can be used all over the home, wherever there is a need for decorative storage of jewellery and whatnot. All come in both gold and silver designs, making it easy to mix metals and sizes in a glamorous and radiant tableau.

The metallic decorations also appeal to the design lover’s Christmas spirit, where the gold and silver motifs are a perfect match for classic holiday themes, creating a kind of modern-day Christmas bazaar atmosphere with gnarled branches in a vase, flickering candles and antique Christmas baubles peeking out from under the lid of a bonbonnière.

This autumn’s new products from Wiinblad are all made from white porcelain and will be available in stores from mid-August 2015.

The collection comprises:

Rosalinde candlestick (H: 17 cm) with silver motif – EUR 399.95 (RRP) Felicia candlestick (H: 19.5 cm) with gold motif – EUR 399.95 (RRP) Rosalinde vase (H: 26 cm) with gold or silver motif – EUR 999.95 (RRP) Mascarade bonbonnière (Ø: 16 cm) with gold or silver motif – EUR 399.95 (RRP) Aida bonbonnière (Ø: 12 cm) with gold or silver motif – EUR 349.95 (RRP) Narcisse bonbonnière (Ø: 8 cm) with gold or silver motif – EUR 249.95 (RRP)
