Emilio Aguinaldo was born on March 22, 1869. His father was a town mayor of Old Cavite and his mother help family’s agriculture. He needs to left the school in 1883 because his father died. He leaves the school and helps his mother take care of family agriculture. In 1894. He was invited to join the Katipunan organization by Andres Bonifacio. The organization called Katipunan was the secret organization that wants to eliminate Spain from Philippines. Finally, Aguinaldo troop be able to drive Spain out of Cavite. During that time, Andres Bonifacio declare himself as the president of Philippines so Katipunan met and made the election to decide who will be the president of Philippines. Emilio Aguinaldo won so he became the first official president of Philippines. The internal problem between 2 leaders made Katipunan weaker so Spain troop can defeat Aguinaldo troop and controlled Cavite again. Aguinaldo and his supporters ran away to Hong Kong. In April 25, 1898, Spanish-American war started. Aguinaldo returned to Philippines with American navy. On June 12, 1898 he and his revolutionary declare the independence of Philippines from Spain and also declare himself as the president without any election. After the war end and American still controlled Philippines, Aguinaldo fought American and prevented them from ruling the country. In April 1, 1901, Aguinaldo surrendered and became the alliance with United States. He returned back to his farm in Cavite. In 1935, he ran for the president in the election but he lost and Manuel Quezon became the president of Philippines. During WWII, he joined Japanese side and assist Japanese to invaded in Philippines. He passed away at the age 94-years-old on February 6, 1964. He was recognized as a symbol of democracy of Philippines even though he was a dictator for a short period.

Andres Bonifacio was born on November 30, 1863. He was the oldest brother of other five siblings. His mother died because the tuberculosis when he was 18-years-old and his father died one year later. At the age 19, he needs to leave the school and work to raise money for his siblings. He joined La Liga Filipina which is the organization established by Jose Rizal in 1892. La Liga Filipina was organized to end the Spanish power in Philippines. Afther the first meeting, Jose Rizal was arrested by Spanish. So Andres Bonifacio and his friends founded a group called Katipunan to replace the La Liga Filipina organization. In 1895, Andres became the president of Katipunan. Finally, he could prepare Katipunan to fight with Spain. On August 19, 1896, Spain captured many people under the charge of being rebellion but only few of them are the actual rebellions. Most of them is the innocent people. Andres Bonifacio led the fight in San Juan del Monte which led to the revolution all over the country. After have control over some area in Philippines the problem between members of Katipunan occurred. Aguinaldo troop successfully conquer the Cavite city so Aguinaldo thinking of creating his own rebellion group. Aguinaldo conduct the election to prove that he was more suitable to be the president than Andres Bonifacio. After Aguinaldo won the election he tried to kill Andres Bonifacio. Andres Bonifacio did not realize the threat that is coming so he let the enemy inside his camp. Aguinaldo charged Bonifacio and his brother for being treason and sedition. Death is the penalty for being treason and sedition. Bonifacio and his brother were shot by firing squad on May 10,1897.

What is martial laws?

Ferdinand Marcos was born on September 11, 1917. He was the president of Philippines during 1966 – 1986. After became the president of Philippines, he introduced martial law into Philippines in 1972. Martial law is the laws that use during war or any chaos moment in the society. This law has no exact pattern and caused many problems to the society and economy. Because of him and his policy, Philippines got into economic problem and have lot of daily reports about human rights violation. He also uses his power to seized private business and let his relative or friends to take over the business which lead to instability of economy. Martial law ended in 1981 followed by the visiting of Pope John Paul II. On August 21, 1983, Benigno Aquino Jr returned to Philippines and was shot and killed as he arrived. This assassination brought big problem to Marcos. His supporters which are the urban wealthy and middle-class start to change their opinion. The special election held in 1986 was the ended of his power as the president of Philippines. He lost the power to Corazon Aquino. This election was special because the normal election should happen in 1987 but to emphasize his power; Marcos organized the election one year earlier. He leaved Philippines and flew to Hawaii on February 25, 1986. The evidences show that Marcos and his association stole more than billion dollars from Philippines economy. Even though Marcos make huge problem to Philippines’s economy ne also improved the infrastructure of Philippines such as bridge and road. Marcos died in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1989. His corpse was stay in the glass coffin in his home since 1993. In 2016, the president Rodrigo Duterte ordered to buried Marcos body with other Filipino heroes in National Heroes Cemetery.

Corazon Aquino or Maria Corazon Sumulong Conjuangco was born on January 25, 1933. Her family was considered as the wealthiest family in the province. She studied in the united States and return to studied law in Manila where she met Benigno Aquino, Jr. She always supported her husband when he promoting his campaign. When Marcos applied martial law, Benigno was arrested and sentenced to death so she needs to rest their children by herself for 7 years. She was to shy to stand on the stage with her husband when campaigning. Because of Benigno was in jail, Corazon needs to give the speech instead of her husband. This was the big change in her life. Corazon and Benigno moved to United States because his bad health condition. They returned to Philippines on August 21, 1983. Benigno was killed that day and Corazon was a widow at age 50. After the death of Benigno, Corazon became the leader of anti-Marcos group as known as People Power. Marcos held new election in February of 1986. He did not really concern about his opponent, Corazon, because he seeing her “just a woman”. The result came out that Corazon won but Marcos-allied parliament declared that Marcos won. Because of the result many people protested in Manila. After four days of chaotic, Ferdinand Marcos leaved the country and Corazon became the first female president of Philippines On February 25, 1986. She restored democracy in Philippines and tried to get rid of US military based in Philippines. She also reduced the violent between homeless and promulgated new constitution. She passed away on August 1, 2009 at age 76 without seeing her son become the president of Philippines on June 30, 2010.

Who is Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr and why he is important to Philippines?What is the 2 independence day of Philippines?

Benigno Ninoy Aquino was born on November 27, 1932 in a wealthy family. He became the youngest mayor of his home town in 1952 and in 1967 he became the youngest senator ever selected. He was so popular because his charisma to persuade people. He became the major candidate for president against Ferdinand Marcos in 1973. After Marcos used martial laws, many of his politics opponents have been jailed. One of them was Benigno. He was charged for murder and possession of firearm. Even though he refused all the charge he spent seven years in jail. In 1980, he moved to United States for heart bypass and return to Philippines on August 21, 1983. He was assassinated on that day. There was no evidence that prove that Marcos involved in this assassination but no one believed that military ordered this on their own. The official commission's majority report believed that Benigno was the victim of a criminal conspiracy created by the military led by General Fabian C. Ver.

First independence day of Philippines is June 12. On June 12, 1898 Philippines declare independence from Spain. This day became Philippines national day since 1962. This independence day was declared at Emilio Aguinaldo shrine.

Second Independence day of Philippines is July 4, 1946. This is the day that Philippines gained freedom from US. This day is also known as Philippines Republic Day.

Flag Day on May 28, 1898 is the day that associated with independence day because this is the first day the Philippines flag put on after Philippines Revolution. But the flag was formally presented to people on June 12, 1898. From 1941 to 1964, flag day is on June 12 but it is the same with Independence day so flag day moved to May 28 of every year. On May 23, 1994 President Fidel V. Ramos issued extended the national flag day to be May 23 to June 12.

Other important day for Philippines history is People Power revolution day on February 25 of every year. This day is the day that People Power revolution happened lead by Corazon Aquino in 1986. This revolution happened in Epifanio de los Santos Avenue. It happened peacefully, no blood shed or any violence only people walking on the street. This result in Philippines became democracy and the ending of Ferdinand Marcos power.

Bonifacio Day on November 30 of every year for celebrates his birth day. His actual birth day is on November 30, 1863.

Rizal Day on December 30 is the death anniversary day of Dr. Jose Rizal who is the national hero of Philippines. He is the national hero because he was the one who fight for independence of Philippines from Spain.

Then, put it on charcoal and roasted it for hours until the skin turn into reddish brown. Lechon often serve with liver sauce.National hero: Jose Rizal was born on June 19, 1861. This cloth is also suitable for the weather in Philippines which is hot and humid. The fabric is thin so the heat can flow easily so the person who wears it will feel comfortable.

Who is Manuel Luis Quezon?What is the battle of Manila Bay?

Things you know and things you learned.Manuel Luis Quezon was the second president of Philippines. His picture was on 20 peso bank. Most of Filipino love and respect him so he could walk ant where in Philippines without being assassination. He was the one who fight for independent from America. In 1935, he was selected to be the president. He ruled the country using equality. This is why his reputation is the father of justice. One of his important works for Philippines was spread the use of Tagalog language so every Filipino will use the same language. He also name road and city in Philippines after national heroes. Quezon is the name of one city in Philippines that name after hero name.

Battle of Manila happened on May 1, 1898. This was the day that US Asiatic Squadron leaded by U.S. Commodore George Dewey attacked Spanish Pacific fleet in Philippines. On April 30, American fleet came in and settled in Manila Bay. At dawn of May 1 1898, US fleet fired at Spanish fleet and two hours later Spanish fleet was damaged and decimated. U.S Commodore George Dewey ordered the ship to paused fire. The Spanish survivor refused to surrender cause the fight to continue in the morning. In that afternoon, a signal of Spanish surrender was send from the gunboat USS Petrel to Dewey’s flagship. This war leaded to full US occupation in Philippines.

Third Republic of Philippines started after second Independence Day which is on July 4, 1946 and end in year 1965. Early in this period Independence Day of Philippines was on July 4 but on May 12, the president Diosdado Macapagal changed Independence Day to July 12. July 4 became a Republican Day since then. Government tried to decrease the poverty which is one of effects from World War II. Government plan to improve bank and finance system. There is the increasing of international relationship with other foreign country during this period. There were two groups of rebellion which are HUKBALAHAP and PKM in this period. To end this rebellion, government of Philippines create Land reform Act, Agricultural Tenancy Act of the Philippines, formation of Court of Agrarian Relations through Republic Act, and the National Resettlement and Rehabilitation Administration (NARRA). Both group of rebellion surrendered in 1954. Last president of this period is Ferdinan Marcos. During his power, Pope Paul VI visited Philippines made many Filipino feel glad.

South China sea dispute in 2013Philippines did not satisfy with nine dash line claim by People Republic of China. Philippines wanted China to follow UNCLOS which state that a country’s water territory extend 200 miles of their shore. This territory is called exclusive economic zone for that country. The country has the right to claim all natural resources and control all the trade pass that area. China refused this claim. China said that this Arbitral tribunal from this court is invalid.

South China Sea conflict in 2015Philippines Secretary of Foreign Affairs said that China responsible for damage in coral reef and fishing issue in South China Sea. China cause damage to coral reef in Exclusive economic zone of Philippines and capture endanger species in that area. Philippines also stated that Arbitral tribunal from this court is valid due to the UNCLOS which states that “tribunal may prescribe any provisional measures which it considers appropriate under the circumstances to preserve the respective rights of the parties to the dispute or to prevent serious harm to the marine environment, pending the final decision.”

Rodrigo Duterte was born on March 28, 1945. He was elected and became the Mayor of Davao city. His famous campaign was to kill every criminal and every drug users or drug seller. He said that he is “brother of Hitler”. He also said that he will kill drug addicts as Hitler killed Jew. He became the 16 th president of Philippines on June 30, 2016 and still in power. Two months after he was in power, more than 1,000 drug addicts were killed. This lead to allegation of violating human right. He ignored the claim and continues doing his job as the president of Philippines.

Rizal Park: Located in Manila, capital city of Philippines. This park was named after Jose Rizal, the national hero of Philippines. This park was the place that Jose Rizal was murdered in 1896. Now, Filipinos use this park as the place for relax. Jose Rizal’s monument also located in this park.

Chocolate hill located in Bohol Island. This hill is the groups of unusual hills. The legend about the creation of the chocolate hill is the giant named Arogo fell in love with a mortal woman. When the woman died, he cried and his giant tears become the hill. The hills will turn from green to brown in the end of the dry season.

Church of San Agustin, in Paoay, Ilocos Norte is one of the oldest churches in Philippines. I was built in 1694 and finished in 1894. I made of coral block and brick. This church can surprisingly survive from the earthquake. Bell tower of this church is special from others. The bell tower standing separate from the church to avoid bell tower collapsing on the church during the earthquake.
