ncerned about a breed of Christianity that knows much about how to
help you improve your marriage, or succeed at work, or propel you to
greater fulfillment in life but knows little or nothing of damning effects
of our sin nature, the blackness of our fallen hearts, or our utter
helplessness and inability to do anything truly good without Jesus!
This past Sunday I continued my "Gospel Basics" sermon series with
the sermon "What Is New Life" I hope you can take some time to listen
or watch the sermon.
New life and new hope to children and mothers!
This past week our trainers conducted evangelism training at the pro-
life women's center "Choose Life" in Odessa, Ukraine. This center
helps expecting mom's choose life by not aborting their babies. The
center is staffed by members of local churches who are able to help
the mothers by educating them and by sharing with them the Good
News of Jesus Christ.
The staff uses The Story of Hope as a way to share the Gospel with
their clients, most of whom have never heard the Gospel before.
Below is note we received about one of women who started attending
classes at the center.
"Masha (name changed to protect privacy) came to our pregnancy
care center in Odessa, Ukraine when she was pregnant with her 4th
child and considering abortion. She did not feel like she and her
husband could financially handle adding another child to their family.
Praise the Lord after visiting with one of our counselors she chose to
continue her pregnancy and now has a beautiful little girl. In order to
receive needed clothing, diapers, and food products, we offer our
clients a study program. The first course we offered her was a course
on parenting. By the time she completed that course, she and her
counselor had several discussions about God and her relationship
with him, and she was interested enough in spiritual things that she
agreed to begin studying the Story of Hope with her counselor. They
slowly worked their way through the stories. Prior to this, Masha had
very little exposure to the Bible and many of the stories were
completely new to her. When they came to the Bridge to Life at the
end, her counselor began asking her directly if she believed these
truths. At each point on the "bridge" she affirmed her belief. When they
reached the last page and read through the statement of faith there,
she said "that is exactly what I have been feeling I just didn't know
how to put it all into words". At the prompting of her counselor, she
then prayed a prayer of repentance and acceptance of Christ's death
on her behalf. She has now started the Way to Joy study. At the first
lesson, which reviews the Story of Hope, her counselor asked her how
she knew that her sins were forgiven and that she had been accepted
into God's family. She responded that it was because of her
acceptance of Christ's sacrifice for her. We had the joy of seeing her
choose life for her precious little girl, and then to make the choice to
accept God's gift of eternal life for herself! Praise the Lord!"
