Spellings Continue with the ‘Spelling Steps’. If you reach the end of the ‘Spelling Steps’ ask a grown up to test you on random spellings taken from the spelling across the steps. English At the Beach – Postcards from Crabby Spit by Roland HarveyRoland Harvey is an Australian children's illustrator, and author. He is best known as an illustrator of children's books using pen, ink and watercolour. He was born and still lives in Melbourne, Victoria.

We are going to have a look at his book about a family who go on holiday to Crabby Spit and send postcards back to their Grandma, telling her all about what they are doing!

Activities to have a go at this week.

1) Have a listen to the story by clicking on the video below or read it yourself from the PowerPoint, on the class page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPL7lMLYNDk

It’s quite a long book so you might want to look at it in parts.

2) Using the sheet, fill in what you know about each of the 5 family members, after reading the book.

3) Write another postcard back to Grandma. Think about what the family could have been doing that day. Maybe they went on a day trip into the outback, what could have happened!

4) Write a postcard to Grandma whilst on their way back home, after their holiday. On the way back there is an incident that delays them. What could have happened?

Geography Geographical features – Human and Physical1) Look at the PowerPoint on Human and Physical geographical features so that you understand what

they are.

2) Have a look at the sheet, ‘At the Seaside’. Complete the activity at the bottom of the sheet.

Science Materials1) Have a look at the PowerPoint on ‘Materials’ and complete the activity on the last slide.

with your family and then decide what you think. Who do you think was to blame for the Titanic disaster and why do you think that?

Think of a holiday or day trip that you have been on with your family or use your imagination to think of a scene. On the beach, buying an ice cream, sitting by the tent, relaxing by the hotel pool, on a bike ride, walking along a pier, having a picnic, building a sandcastle on the beach, exploring a rock pool… Some ideas to get you thinking!
