Children to write down the number of footsteps. Repeat process using a different vehicle. Children to talk about how and why each vehicle travelled at a different distance. Talk about making it fair, how might using footsteps not make it fair? Talk about what the vehicles look like and how that may make a difference?Children to then use the same vehicle but this time teacher to put a strip of masking tape on the floor with measurements and this time the children measure the distance using the units rather than footsteps. imagine if I could........ Watch clip of vehicles being built

up showing each part e.g. wheels, engine etc (Clip is long with lots of different vehicles so maybe check out a couple. Identify and discuss features and record ideas as labels then show children how they can be added to a diagram. vehicle parts - construction

Children choose a vehicle diagram and annotate using labels or choose a favourite toy train etc and make labels on post it notes.

Develop this idea further - Create your own vehicle! Spend time talking about what a vehicle needs …how does it move, wheels? Wings? On the sea?

Cut a vehicle picture out from a magazine or a toy from a vehicle stick it on paper then use phonic skills to label.
