Autumn 2: Celebrations and Special Events Children will learn about different celebrations that happen in the UK and across the world. They will find out about Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day and Christmas. Enrichment Music Week Church Visit Nativity Play Possible activities - Times table challenges. - Grouping and sharing small quantities of objects to develop understanding of multiplication and division. - Practise to become fluent in the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables and connect them to each other. - Problem solving and reasoning will underpin all that we do so that the children have opportunities to apply new knowledge in a variety of contexts. Mathematical Development (Multiplication and Division, Money) Year 1 - Count in multiples of twos, fives and tens. - Solve one-step problems involving multiplication and division with the support of the teacher. - Recognise and know the value of different denominations of coins and notes. Year 2 - Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers. - Calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division. - Show that multiplication of two numbers can be done in any order. - Recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value. - Find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of Communication, Language and Literacy (Speaking & Listening, reading, writing, MFL) English – Poetry, Letter writing, Description - Begin to make specific word choices - Independently compose sentences. - Use full stops and capital letters. - Use conjunctions – e.g. and, but, so, because, when, if - Use and apply taught spelling rules - Read and write common exception - Have an understanding of word class terminology. - Form upper and lower case letters correctly and begin joining Italian - Listen attentively, understand and respond to spoken language. - Ask and answer questions - Explore patterns and sounds of the language through songs and rhymes. Possible activities English - Children will be exposed to a range of texts with a running theme – opportunities to be creative and use new vocabulary. - Daily phonics/ spelling sessions. - Children will be encouraged to read more for pleasure to gain a broader vocabulary to support writing. - Weekly spelling tests. - Guided Reading Italian - The children will learn basic vocabulary and phrases. They will be encouraged to listen to others and respond to questions posed by the Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Geography, History, Science, ICT) ICT – Programming - Understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions. - Create and debug simple programs. Science – Animals Including Humans - Identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense. - Notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults. - Find out about and describe the basic needs of animals. Science - Label the parts of the human body. - Conduct an experiment investigating the senses. History - Act out the story of the gunpowder plot.
