Home Learning Pack W/B 11/5/20 Year 2 Here is this week’s home learning plan for you, like last week I will post any resources you need on the website the day before. We are going to be doing our Art activities for 2 days this week as you have been working so amazingly hard with your English and Maths, I thought you deserved a special treat and the chance to do something a little different. We would have been doing Nature Sculptures in school as part of our 2 Art days so I thought it would be really nice to do this work as part of our home schooling. Spellings Spellings this week are: Megan’s, Ravi’s, the girl’s, the child’s, the man’s, the woman’s, the school’s, a dog’s, a teacher’s, a postman’s There will be a Power Point presentation linked to the spelling words on the website for you to look through. You can also have a go at the following to practice your spellings: Play a game of hangman – someone chooses a spelling word and you have to work out which one it is (a classroom favourite!) Can you write a short sentence for each word, thinking about what object might belong to each one? Eg. Megan’s watch … English Lesson What you will need Monday Grammar - Writing sentences https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/ zmnxt39 We are using BBC Bitesize today to practice our sentence writing skills, can you remember what the basic skills are (Capital letter, finger spaces, full stop)? Can you also try and use the conjunctions you learned about last week? Today I would like you to work on Activity 2 and 3, watch the video about the rainforest and then write down the different animals that live in the rainforest. I would then like you to complete Activity 3, write a postcard to someone about your time in the rainforest and write about what have you seen and what it is like. If you want to you can go back and play some of the games on the Small Town Super Heroes game. Here is this week’s home learning plan for you, like last week I will post any resources you need on the website the day before.

Spellings

Spellings this week are: Megan’s, Ravi’s, the girl’s, the child’s, the man’s, the woman’s, the school’s, a dog’s, a teacher’s, a postman’s

There will be a Power Point presentation linked to the spelling words on the website for you to look through. You can also have a go at the following to practice your spellings:

Play a game of hangman – someone chooses a spelling word and you have to work out which one it is (a classroom favourite!)

Tuesday Reading ComprehensionYou will be using a mixture of the different reading skills today in this reading lesson. You do not need to complete the different level sheets that are on the class web page - just level 2! (Level 3 if you are in the Caterpillar reading group)When completing the questions, think about what reading skills you need to use – Retrieving information, sequencing events, inference (looking for clues), vocabulary (new words) and predicting what might happen next. Then Share a story, or listen to one of my story time videos, can you answer any of these questions: What do you think might happen next? How is the main character feeling? What makes you think

Wednesday

As part of our Art days I would like you to take a look at the Power Point all about Andy Goldsworthy. Andy Goldsworthy is an artist who likes to make art pieces from natural objects, this is what we are going to be doing this week. When you have finished reading through the Power Point I

Andy Goldsworthy Power Point

Page 2:   · Web viewConjunctions word mat. Exercise book. Tuesday. Reading Comprehension . You will be using a mixture of the different reading skills today in this reading lesson. You

would like you to write 2 or 3 sentences about Andy Goldsworthy – what did you learn about him (Fact retrieval!) and what was your favourite art piece? Then start to think about which natural objects you could create art pieces from.

Thursday Start by looking through the pictures on the PDF Natural or man- made – Can you sort the pictures? Think about what makes an object natural or man-made.Take a look in your garden and find a natural object to draw?Use the Observational drawing tips sheet and think about how you will draw your chosen object. Now draw your object, will you use just pencils or will you add some colour with paints or coloured pencils?I look forward to seeing your drawings, do email me pictures

Friday Look through the Land Art Power Point, think about what Sculpture is and what the different pieces of land art are made from - are these things you might find on a walk today? (Perhaps not the sculptures made of snow!)Today I would like you to go on a walk, whilst you are walking collect some natural objects that you can use to create your own land art with. Think about the pictures in the Power Point – how did Andy Goldsworthy arrange his objects, what shapes did he create?I would like you to take a photo of your land art to show me, you could have a go at making the flour paste to help stick pieces down, especially if it’s a bit windy outside! To make the flour paste you just need some flour and a little bit of water to make a gloopy paste, you don’t want it too runny! If you are really enjoying the art this week I did find this natural object light catcher you could have a go at making? For this you will need some cardboard to make a frame and some Sellotape to stick flowers to. I thought it looked lovely and would fit in with our art topic quite well.

Maths

Lesson What you will needMonday Today you will be solving problems using the four

different operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.Remember, when you add or multiply, the numbers will get bigger to make the ‘whole’, if you subtract and divide, you start with the ‘whole’ and the numbers get smaller.Use objects to help you work out the answers to the practical activities – jot your workings out down.

When you are confident with this method please complete pages 53 - 55 in your Power Maths workbook (2C).Remember, answer as many questions as you feel comfortable to do so, each question is designed to be more challenging, don’t worry if you can’t answer all of them.

Tuesday End of Unit CheckToday is the last lesson in this unit of looking at how we can use our knowledge of calculation to help us solve problems. I would like you to work through the problems on the Lesson 2 document and think about how you might solve them. When choosing the answers, think about why and how you might work it out – what is the process, do you need to add, subtract, divide or multiply – is there more than 1 step to calculating the answer? When you have done that and feel confident about answering the questions take a look at the ‘My Journal’ section on page 56 in your Power Maths book 2C and write how you got to answer. Remember to properly understand maths we need to think about the process and not just the final answer. Colour in the face that best matches how you feel about this unit on page 57 (Power check). If you want to, have a go at the Power Play puzzle!

Wednesday

As we have reached the end of the Power Maths Unit and Thursday and Friday are our Art days, I am going to use a White Rose Maths lesson today.Follow this link:https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/Select ‘Summer Term Week 4 – W/B 4th May’ – ‘Lesson 1 Fact Families, addition and subtraction bonds to 20’Watch the video and then complete the worksheet – I have also added it to today’s resources on the class webpage. If you can’t print it out, don’t worry, just write your workings out and answers in your exercise book.

iPad/computerLesson 1 Addition and subtraction bonds to 20Exercise book

Thursday Art Day – Can you add the number of natural objects you find, what is your total? What is the shape of you natural object? Is it 2D or 3D, how many sides/vertices/faces does it have? What other mathematical questions can you use your objects for?

Friday Art Day – What is your total number of natural objects, you have used some for your Land Art – do you have any left over, how many? Will you add or subtract to work this out?

As well as the Power Maths work I will also be setting tasks on Mathletics and MyMaths to compliment the work on addition methods and to also help them with their fluency work. If you have any problems accessing any of the work set here or on the apps please do let me know and I will try and help you out as best I can.

This week we will be finishing off our topic on the Human Body and Senses. I found this link to the Children’s University of Manchester, there are lots of different activities to complete and some good videos explaining how our senses work and what connections are made in the brain. Take a look, I had a go at some of the activities, they were good fun and you can get a certificate at the end!
