Principal’s MessageDear Families,
We have several upcoming events this month. Please see the left side of this page for more details.
Mrs. Cheryl Wright, our Principal’s Secretary, was chosen to represent Ferndale to receive the Excellence in Education Award. We will be celebrating her hard work and dedication to staff, students, and parents at an evening event this month! When you stop into the office, please congratulate her for all that she does for our school.
Field Day has been scheduled for Thursday, May 10th . Pre-K will be in the morning and Kindergarten will be in the afternoon. More information will be sent home soon asking for volunteers to assist during the sessions. Due to the new security measures and space, only volunteers will be able to attend. We will also ask that these volunteers pre-register.
ECI will have their last day of school on Wednesday, June 13th. The last day of school for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be Friday, June 15th. In light of the new security measures, our school has decided not to hold promotion activities on the last day of school. Our staff has decided to have various closure activities. ECI, Pre-K and K will be having class picnics during the last month of school. You will receive more information from your child’s teacher about closing activities soon.
We would like to thank the following businesses for their donations: Squisito Pizza and Pasta for sponsoring our PTA for a family
fundraiser night!
We will have one more newsletter to cover events for June and July. It will be sent out on June 1st.
I appreciate your continued support to meet all Ferndale students’ success.
Sincerely,
Lisa Rice

All classes will enjoy a variety of books during the month of May. We will review aspects of fiction and non-fiction books and also review how and where to find them in the media center. The last week to check out media books will be the week of May 14th and all books or payments for lost/damaged books will be due by June 1st.

May’s Reading NotesNow that the weather is warming up, try some outdoor writing fun! Let the kids write letters and words in the sandbox, with sidewalk chalk, with a paintbrush and water, or in the air with a bubble wand. These small and large motor activities will help them with paper and pencil writing. Children love to practice reading and writing in new and creative ways!
Cafeteria NewsWe have “Marched” into Spring and I am still amazed how well the kids are eating! Each and every day, they are trying new foods and eating more fresh fruits and veggies. The children continue to have good manners coming through the line and have such a good time eating with their friends.
Just remember…A free and healthy breakfast is served each day! We also have hot entrees, entrée salads, cheese & yogurt combo, complete with milk, fruits and veggies.
Sincerely,Nancy Tyler and Vicki BnaityCafeteria Team

Counselor’s MessageHappy Spring!
In April, our counseling lessons focused on careers! Each class explored different jobs in our community. On Wednesday, April 25th we celebrated Career Day! We learned about different careers first hand from several of our parents. Thank you to all our wonderful parent volunteers!
Ferndale also celebrated Career day by dressing up! Students came to school dressed as their favorite career! What a fun day!
As always, if you have any questions about our lessons or want to discuss an individual concern, please call me at 410-222-6927.
Thank you!Mrs. BillingsSchool Counselor
