Our topic this half term is ‘Plants and flowers’
Dear Parents/Carers,Below is some work for the week beginning 27th April. There is no expectation that you complete everything and the most important thing is that you are safe and well. As a minimum we would like you to complete two English and two Maths tasks a week and then something from the other column. In order to share this with us and for us to give some feedback to you there is a way the children can submit their work on seesaw. It will also be really nice to see the other fun things you have been up to as a family through photos, videos or messages. We are missing you and the children terribly and hope to see you all soon.
Our book focus this week is Jack and The Beanstalk
If watching clips from YouTube please be aware that once that clip being watched is finished it will open another video which might not be related.
Time in the EYFS: Use everyday language related to time: ‘today, tomorrow, later, day after, Friday, Saturday, early, afternoon, evening, pm, morning, 25th April, yesterday, night’. This would then lead onto learning o’clock in year 1.
If you do not have a printer please just do the work on paper, there is no need to print out all the worksheets.Take care, Early Years team.

Using a minute timer, time how quickly you can build a tower with blocks/lego/duplo. Can you do it again and build a bigger tower?
You could do this with family and see who builds the biggest
Two ideas
Draw a picture of what Jack sees at the top of the beanstalk
or
Imagine that you have climbed a beanstalk, what can you see at the top, draw or paint a picture.

Can you write 3 sentences to describe the Giant. For example: The Giant is big. He is angry. The giant is big, smelly and loud. You can use the word mat attached or use your phonic sounds to sound out the words.
Using a 1minute or 3 minute timer, how many times can you run around your garden, jump up and down, star jumps, how many goals can you score in a set time? Make it a family challenge who does the most.
Maybe you could estimate how many you think you will do before you start. Were you right? Did you do more or less than your estimate?
Create your own story box of Jack and the Beanstalk. Here is a copy of one my daughter did last year.

family. materials in your home?
Thursday
Read and share books with your family.
Jack’s next door neighbour was feeling very jealous of Jack's beanstalk. He found a tiny, fluffy rainbow seed and planted it. Draw a picture of the plant you think might have grown in his garden and label the different parts.
You could make your very own book about time. For example, draw a picture of yourself waking up - what time would that be? What do you do next in your day?
Can you build the giant’s castle at home? you could use lego, building blocks, books. How tall is it?
Friday Try a word hunt around the house. You could leave words around your house and ask your child to go and find the word ‘ Jack’ or try some tricky words from their animal words.
Read and share books with your family.
Can you write a letter or postcard from Jack to the Giant? What do you think he should say? Can you draw a picture to go with your letter?
Have a go at making an envelope with a piece of paper. Don’t forget to write the Giant’s address on the envelope and draw a stamp!

Can you make your own timetable for the day?
Choose the activities you are going to do (include some school work/home learning, free/play time, lunchtime etc) and draw a little picture to represent each one/ write as a list.
Throughout the day you can put a tick next to each one as you complete. Refer to the timetable

during the day reinforcing the language of time eg. before, now, first, later, next, afterwards. You could extend by including some rough times (O’ clock) on your timetable to talk about.
If your child is still working on getting themselves dressed this is the perfect time to practise. Give them all the time they need to get undressed and dressed again. This is easier to slot into your morning routine as they get changed out of their pyjamas and into clothes. In addition, this is also a great time to work on using cutlery to eat their food. Can they cut up their own dinner?
