Do animals live in Antarctica?4. How do Emperor penguins stop being cold?5. What special features do seals have to keep them warm?6. Are whales cold-blooded or warm-blooded?7. Could we live on Antarctica all the time?

TUESDAY Common Exception Words Warm up game http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/lcwc/index.htmlRHYMING WORDShttps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjhhvcw/articles/zqjgrdmFollow the presentation about rhyming words.GAME: Play a game with your child where you start with a word then the game goes back and forth thinking of rhyming words (don’t worry if they aren’t real words e.g. red, med, ped, fed – it’s the idea of rhyme and the end sound being the same rather than the word making sense!) Write the words down and point out the bit that rhymes.Alternative game: write a selection of rhyming words (think about your child’s reading ability and adjust you words accordingly. Hide the words and ask your child to find them and put them into rhyming pairs. Can they think of a silly sentence using both rhyming words e.g. The fierce shark swam in the green swamp down at the park.ACTIVITY: https://education.abc.net.au/res/i/g.php?url=collection/rhymes/?animal=sharkClick on a part of the shark to hear the rhyming line.

WEDNESDAY Splat the verb warm up game: https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/grammar/verbs.htmTRADITIONAL TALE/FABLEListen to the story which is one of Aesop’s fables, The Tortoise and the Eagle read by Alison Steadman.https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/english-ks1--ks2-aesops-fables-the-eagle-and-the-tortoise/zvbgf4jYou might need to listen to it twice.Activity: Talk about the story and make simple puppets to represent each one of the characters - Racy Rabbit, Millie Mouse, Eagle, Tod Tortoise. Use the puppets to act out the story. We often do this at the beginning of a topic at school with puppets for characters so children show they really understand the storyline.

THURSDAY Adding the full stop warm up game:https://www.roythezebra.com/reading-games/full-stop-1.htmlWHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DOTod from the story always wanted to be able to fly. Have a think and a talk with the people in your home. Is there anything they wished they could do? What about you? Do you have anything you wished you could do? It could be a superhero power or something you could do for real. Use the sentence stem I wish I could and add the conjunction ‘because’ to give a reason. Maybe you could write more than one sentence, or you could include the wishes of your family.

I wish I could swim with the dolphins because my mum and dad did when they went on holiday and they said it was fantastic. My little girl wishes she could do a cartwheel because all her friends can do it and she can’t.Mr Craddick wishes he could watch sport all day because he hardly ever gets the TV programmes he wants to watch as Disney + has taken over!

FRIDAY HANDWRITINGQuick activity: write a line of each letter which is a descender – make sure you write it hanging below the line

f g j p q y

Look at the poem on the next page and copy it out in your neatest handwriting. Remember what we said about joining letters together – see if you can remember how to do this. I have chosen this poem because there are a lot of ‘p’ sounds which need to hang below the line as they are descenders.I have also attached some handwriting template sheets if you want to write on a lined sheet. It is not necessary to use these and you can just as easily write them out on a piece of lined paper.

MATHSMONDAY

Recapping Addition and facts weeks

Play Alien Addition to learn those number bonds to 20 fluently.

https://www.arcademics.com/games/alien

Today I would like you to practice using known facts to solve bigger equations!Remember in school we used the phrase ‘If I know… Then I know…’ E.g.‘If I know 7 + 1 = 8. Then I know 70 + 10 = 80’ Look really carefully at the symbol in the equations!

Extension– Discuss with someone in your home what is the same and what is different about the equations you’ve created using the language ‘tens’ and ‘ones’.Can you draw picture representations of the equations?

TUESDAYAdding 3 1 digit numbers-ICT game to play- FLIP FLOP (warm up)Match and memory game to match calculations together.https://nrich.maths.org/1257

ACTIVITYYou could use a pack of cards (take out the picture cards) or you could make you own number cards 1-10. Select 3 random cards at a time and add them up to see the total.

You could turn this into a game and see who can get the highest total (sum) each time.

Remember to see if you can make a group of 10 to helpEg4 +3 +6 =I know that 4+6= 10So 10+3 = 13

WEDNESDAYAddition practise – with and without bridgingICT Game https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=PostSortingcalculationsv2

Page 5: €¦  · Web viewGAME: Play a game with your child where you start with a word then the game goes back and forth thinking of rhyming words (don’t worry if they aren’t real words

Complete the addition equations below. (Show your working out- Remember how in school we have to prove our thinking which is more important than the right answer.)Extension- Can you make your own maths stories about the equations?E.g. 24 + 17 = 41 ‘There were 24 hens laying eggs and then 17 more laid eggs. There are 41 eggs altogether’Remind yourself how to solve addition calculations. Using your tens and ones grid

1. First we add the ones (if my ones sum more than 10 then we need to exchange 10 ones for a group of ten)

2. Then we add the tens.Videos to watchhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=47&v=0f-4nfvpv0A&feature=emb_title

Solve the following calculations- (Some have bridging and some do not)

24 + 32=37 + 28 =59 + 15 =45 + 43 =63 + 21 =28 + 52=

FRIDAY Doubles and halves to 20 You could play this on the trampoline or if you don’t have a trampoline you could do it with paper or chalk on the ground.Call out a number between 10-20.They have to bounce to the number that is double the number. Eg If I called 12 you would jump to the number 24 You can do the same with halves.

Page 7: €¦  · Web viewGAME: Play a game with your child where you start with a word then the game goes back and forth thinking of rhyming words (don’t worry if they aren’t real words

Extension

SCIENCE- If your child is willing you could do a blind taste where they have to guess the food using their senses. (Some children might not like this so only do this if they are willing and would find it fun)

Where does our food come from ? Plants or animals?

Activity 1 - All food comes from plants or animals

These are facts your children should be fluent in by the end of year 2. Inside the steps are year 2 facts and outside are year 1 facts.

Page 8: €¦  · Web viewGAME: Play a game with your child where you start with a word then the game goes back and forth thinking of rhyming words (don’t worry if they aren’t real words

Explain that all food comes from a plant or an animal.

Draw two columns on a piece of paper and head them, Plants and Animals.

Using food from cupboards if you would like to make it more practical or use the food cards on the website

Briefly discuss the food, for example:

Have you eaten this before? What does it taste like?

Can they sort them into whether the food came from an animal or a plant if they can add further food to either of the columns.

Show children the Plant or animal?   video . This video shows children trying to guess whether food is from a plant or animal source. You could try something similar at home.

Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) – Managing emotionsIn school we talk about our feelings and that there is no such thing as a bad feeling. It’s how we manage those feelings. We would like you to consider different emotions you have felt whilst being away from school and learning at home. You may have felt a mixture of emotions! E.g. Excitement, anger, sadness  and happiness. We have definitely felt a range of emotions being away from school. Remember it is okay and normal to experience different emotions and there are ways we can recognise how we are feeling and how to manage them!

Please use the link below: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmmgrj6Extension: Can you consider what strategies and activities help you feel calm?It may be deep breathing, yoga, colouring, reading or keeping a diary.Take a look at these below for inspiration:https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/i-am-an-amazing-person-t2-inc-4https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-he-456-mindfulness-challenge-cardshttps://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYogaPlease email your ideas to [email protected] and we can share with other children!
