Festival UK* 2022 has commissioned 10 highly ambitious and ground-breaking creative projects, which will take place next year throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Designed to bring people together and showcase UK creativity, the Festival programme will include public events, digital activity, and participation and learning opportunities aimed at reaching millions of people globally.
The 10 Festival commission teams feature exciting new collaborations between creatives drawn from across science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM) and from throughout the UK. Following a unique, funded R&D programme, they are now turning their extraordinary ideas into reality.
Led by Chief Creative Officer, Martin Green CBE, Festival 2022 Ltd, was established in Birmingham to curate, manage and promote the Festival, working with strategic delivery bodies for each of the Four Nations to devise and deliver the programme.
As well as unforgettable experiences, the Festival places creativity at the centre of our lives and shared futures. It comes as sectors have been impacted by the global pandemic and is already creating new opportunities for freelancers, emerging talent and under-represented voices, with more to come as each commission is developed.
Role Overview
The Programme Manager will work on the development and delivery phase of Festival UK* 2022; overseeing the process of delivering new commissions across the UK as part of a nationwide Festival of creativity and innovation.
In this role you will project manage a complex and multifaceted cross-sector, cross-nation, multi- stakeholder commissioning programme. Through this process you will work with creative minds from across STEAM sectors to deliver an open, original, and optimistic Festival for 2022.
As a highly organised and motivated individual you will take responsibility for the senior operational management of a programme of work across Festival UK* 2022.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with creative organisations and practitioners; as well as with a team of producers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The post-holder will be skilled at building relationships, with speed and credibility, with people at all levels.
This role would suit a detailed oriented person with a background in complex programme management, with varied programme management skills, capable of holding a number of workstreams.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Support the operational delivery of the Creative Programme for Festival UK* 2022; supporting the Programme and Business Operations team to produce 10 Festival commissions working alongside organisations and individuals from across Festival sectors (arts, culture, design, science, engineering, maths, heritage and technology);
Working closely with the Head of Commissioning to manage the ongoing development of large- scale public installations;
Alongside a team of Senior Programme Managers, providing day-to-day analysis and feedback to the Programme Director and Head of Commissioning in order to keep the project on track and in line with stakeholder and Festival goals;
Collaborate across the business to undertake assigned project activity, supporting the financial, logistical and operational management of the commissioning process;
Work as part of the wider creative programming team to deliver a complex multi strand programme of commissions across multiple interdisciplinary artforms, on and offline;
Work across the four nations of the UK on the assessment, reporting and gathering of activity;
Manage a portfolio of project plans including the development, monitoring and progress reporting milestones and project timelines;
Working as part of the wider team, shape the overall vision and direction of Festival UK* 2022 as a nationwide celebration of creativity and innovation that will reach millions.

Essential Desirable
Relevant demonstrable professional success in managing complex Festival Programme Strands (on and offline)
Knowledge of high-profile creative multi-disciplinary commissioning processes
Understanding of multi-partner and stakeholder administrative systems
Working knowledge of multiple parts of production, delivery and locations management across multiple sites and platforms
Experience of managing multiple senior stakeholder relationships
Knowledge of public, statutory or private funding structure

Senior level planning and project management skills inc. managing multiple workstreams
Highly organised, self-motivated and self-administering
Significant relevant industry experience in a cultural, educational, charitable or
public/statutory funding sector Ability to build relationships, with speed and
credibility, with people at all levels (internal or external)
Able to juggle competing priorities, deadlines, and manage complexity
Resilient with an effective approach to resolving challenges and identifying solutions
High computer proficiency with competency in all core Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Experience of working closely with Marketing and Communication departments
Able to adapt project management skills to new tools and software (inc. Smartsheets)
Knowledge and understanding of systems, controls, processes and procedures relating to a range of corporate functions
An ability to mentor team members, developing their capabilities through support, guidance and exposure to opportunities
Proven experience of budget management for rapidly evolving time-limited projects
This position will be employed by Festival 2022 Ltd.
We will consider a secondment from an existing organisation or public body for this role.
