Presenter – Jeremy Paxman

Characteristics

Jeremy Paxman is a determined and goes in depth within the subject he presents, known as ‘Newsnight’. He has been working as a part of the show from 1989 to 2014. The way he questions people is a more detailed category of a news show. He always questions about politics, also a journalist and a presenter for a complete different show named as, ‘University Challenge’.

His attitude within presenting this style of documentary/news show is perfect since he is ruff with the interviewees and has a certain attitude which largely wins within arguments again with the interviewees.

Style – Class/Language/Dress

Dress Code

Within the dress code of Paxman he is formal at all time, the reason for this is due to the shows he presents are more towards intelligent and upper class group of people. He either has his shirt with the two top buttons un-buttoned or he will use a red tie. He also has a formal jacket over this which makes him look a basic presenter within the category of show he is presenting. He dresses like a classic presenter.

Ways of Communicating as a Presenter

He also has a dry sarcastic sense of humour especially within the way he is a presenter an example is within the weather broadcasting, which he did several times having the quotes of likes of:

Class

The way of his English language is inside of a high standard of vocabulary, especially compared to myself. He always has been since the shows he was young mostly due to the way of his living being a part of University of Cambridge and being in a southern born family. Although, this kind of accent and class is mostly shown within the BBC industry. The way of speaking within BBC is formal ever since the 1990s and from that presenters do in it a way through: language, way of speaking, standard of living (most likely to be middle class), the standard of looks to be like usually like a non-high standard of looks and finally through the mise en scene of the presenters.

Opinion on the Character

My opinion of Jeremy Paxman is that I feel like he like is a rough type of presenter since at times he can be harsh and savage towards the people within the time of being a presenter of Newsnight but it worked. There is multiple examples of this, being the likes of the meeting within him and Nigel Farage at the beginning of the Brexit campaign during 2014. Another being with Tony Blair in 2004. He has done some specials within being a presenter and If feel like he is special as having a style of being a presenter.
