Hoot Creative Arts is a leading provider in participatory arts & health.  We are a charitable company offering a range of opportunities for people to get involved in music, dance, singing, creative writing, visual arts and other creative activities as a way of improving emotional and physical wellbeing.  We are a Strategic partner with Kirklees Council’s Creative Economy Team in developing Culture & Health and Music for Kirklees, an approved provider and Creative Partner to South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust and an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).  A staff team of 15 benefits additionally from a range of associate artist input, and close working relationships with a variety of Arts and Health providers.Hoot is commissioned by Kirklees Health and Social Services to deliver the Mental Health Creative Arts Service.  The Service is delivered across two distinct programmes:

Out of the Blue, for people in Kirklees aged 18+ to help recover, improve or maintain their mental health and wellbeing, offering a programme of one-to-one and group activities and progression   routes,   alongside  opportunities   to   peer   support   and   contribute   to   peer-led activity.

Breathing Space:   our   ground   breaking   dementia   project   offers   positive   creative   time together for people living with dementia and their partner, carer or support worker.

Hoot is recruiting a Support Worker to work in the Out of the Blue programme

This programme offers a variety of creative opportunities to get involved in, and operates under the principles of co-production.    With the help and support  of our Key Workers,  each participant  is encouraged to develop a Creative Arts Plan, which identifies strengths, works towards agreed goals, builds confidence and skills and supports progress towards integration, autonomy and self-reliance.The  benefits   of   the  programme,  measured  using  our   “6  Ways   to  Wellbeing”   tool,   include   the following:

Growing artistic skills & self-expression, making choices, expressing yourself, and finding a voice.

Growing a sense of inclusion and involvement in a community, socialising and making new relationships.

Skills development, opportunities to gain income, or help to access direct payments, putting people in charge of their own support.

Improving health & mood. Taking pride in achievements. And just as importantly, having fun!

We are now looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated worker to take up one of our Support Worker/Arts and Mental Health posts for the Out of the Blue service.We are looking for someone with a passion for the value of community arts to health and wellbeing and the skill to help facilitate the expression of the innate creativity of others.

Job title: Support Worker/Arts and Mental Health - Out of the Blue (OOB)

Contract: Temporary fixed term until March 31st 2019 (potential for extension                                         subject to funding)

Place of Work: Hoot, Bates Mill, Milford Street, Huddersfield, HD1 3DX

Salary: Currently £17,681 - £17,792, point 14 – 15 (pro rata) depending                                            on experience , plus pension contribution

Other benefits              5% pension contribution; contractual sick pay

Hours of work: 26 hours (3.5 days)

Responsible to: Contract Manager,  OOB

General Purpose:To facilitate participants using the Out of the Blue co-production model to use and develop their existing abilities and skills;  to enable participants to develop their own Creative Arts Plan; provide lead artist support; ensure the collection of information, so that the organisation can provide monitoring and evaluation data as required by commissioners and funders and for publicity purposes.

Specific Duties To facilitate participants best use of the creative arts service in one-to-one and group 

settings, and to work alongside individuals to collaboratively design and review their Creative Arts Plan (CAP)

To assist the lead artist in preparation for creative sessions and the delivery of the art-form as required including debrief and team meetings; to be jointly responsible for fostering excellent communication pathways between the artist and key working/Out of the Blue team.

To be responsible for responding to referrals and arranging participant induction. To contribute to the delivery of weekly Welcome Sessions for participants.

To assist in the identification of potential volunteers and peer support workers as individuals develop; to contribute to the development and delivery of volunteer and peer support worker training as appropriate.

To facilitate peer-led DIY sessions in the absence of a lead artist.

To be responsible for maintaining and updating group records (both paper and electronic) in line with Hoot’s Data Protection policy, for the purpose of monitoring

and evaluation by commissioners and Hoot.

To meet and work co-operatively with other Key Workers at regular intervals to cross reference registers and monitoring information, to update and amend records as necessary for commissioners and Hoot.

To contact participants and referrers by phone and email for referral enquiries, tracking and other purposes.

To contribute to the timely and accurate collection of data for quarterly monitoring reports to commissioners.

To contribute to devising and delivering participant consultation opportunities and events.

To monitor potential struggles from participants, both artistic and personal and respond appropriately.

Other: To work across North and South Kirklees as required by the artistic programme. To provide support and facilitation to other groups and activities as and when 

required. To work within Hoot’s policies and procedures framework at all times – including 

safeguarding adults at risk, professional boundaries and data protection - and ensure any staff/volunteers you are responsible for do so as well

To contribute to the organisation’s commitment to action on Equality and Diversity and developing an ageless and dementia friendly service.

To attend and contribute to team meetings and the development of the artistic programme.

To take responsibility for contributing as a member of Hoot’s Creative Professional Development team.

To attend supervision/appraisal with your line manager. To undertake any other tasks, which from time to time may be required in support of 

the organisation’s aims and objectives.
