1.4 SUBMITTALS

1.4.1 Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

1.4.2 Product Data: Manufacturer's product construction data, hardware attachment performance data, specifications and installation instructions for each type of wood door, including details of core, raised panel (if applicable) and edge construction, trim for lite openings and similar components:1.4.2.1 Preparation instructions and recommendations.1.4.2.2 Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.1.4.2.3 Cleaning methods.

1.4.3 Product Certification: Provide documents showing compliance to the following WDMA door attributes, validating the specified WDMA Performance Duty Level:1.4.3.1 Adhesive Bonding Durability: WDMA TM-6.1.4.3.2 Cycle Slam: WDMA TM-7.1.4.3.3 Hinge Loading: WDMA TM-8.1.4.3.4 Screw Holding: WDMA TM-10.

requirements for regional materials, documents indicating location of material manufacturer and point of extraction, harvest, or recovery for each raw material that contributes towards this credit. Include statement indicating distance to Project, cost for each regional material, and fraction by weight that is considered regional.

1.4.4.3 Certificates for Credit MR 6, LEED Core and Shell and Credit MR 7: Provide the project's total project cost (for application of 45 percent default factor) or total materials cost. Complete the rapidly renewable materials calculation template provided. Provide an optional narrative for any special circumstances. A Vendor is defined as the company that sells wood products to building project contractors or subcontractors. Each vendor invoice shall conform to the following requirements:

1.4.4.3.1 Each wood product shall be identified on a line-item basis;1.4.4.3.2 FSC products shall be identified as such on a line-item basis and shall be

identified as "FSC 100 percent," "FSC Mix Credit," or "FSC Mix [NN] percent";

1.4.4.3.3 The dollar value of each line item shall be shown;1.4.4.3.4 The vendor's chain-of-custody (COC) number shall be shown on any

invoice that includes FSC products.1.4.4.4 Product Data for Credit IEQ 4.4: For adhesives and composite wood products,

documentation indicating that product contains no added urea formaldehyde.1.4.4.5 LEED for Schools Laboratory Test Reports for Credit IEQ 4.4: For composite

wood products, documentation indicating that products comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Health Services' "Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions from Various Sources Using Small-Scale Environmental Chambers." All composite wood and agrifiber products shall meet this requirement. In addition to the above provide products that are third party certified through SCS Indoor Advantage Gold.

1.4.4.6 Provide Data for Credit IEQ 9 - Enhanced Acoustical Performance: Building shell, classroom partitions and other core learning space partitions meet STC (Sound Transmission Class) requirements of ANSI S12.60-2002. Section 4.5.5 entry doors into classrooms and other core learning spaces.

1.4.5 Shop Drawings: Indicate location, size, and hand of each door; elevation of each kind of door; construction details and the following:1.4.5.1 Dimensions and locations of blocking.1.4.5.2 Dimensions and locations of mortises and holes for hardware.1.4.5.3 Dimensions and locations of cutouts.1.4.5.4 Undercuts.1.4.5.5 Requirements for veneer matching.1.4.5.6 Doors to be factory finished and finish requirements.1.4.5.7 Fire-protection ratings for fire-rated doors.

1.4.6 Verification Samples:1.4.6.1 Factory finishes applied to actual door face materials, approximately 8 by 10

inches (200 by 250 mm), for each material and finish.1.4.6.2 For each wood species and transparent finish, provide set of three samples

showing typical range of color and grain to be expected in finished work.1.4.6.3 Provide construction samples of doors, approximately 5 by 5 inches (125 by 125

mm), with door faces and vertical edges representing actual construction to be used.

1.4.6.3.1 Provide unfinished samples for each species of veneer and required if factory furnishing is not required, approximately 8 by 10 inches (200 by 250 mm).

1.4.6.4 Louver blade and frame sections, minimum 6 inches (150 mm) long, for each material and finish specified.

1.4.6.5 Frames for light openings, minimum 6 inches (150 mm) long, for each material, type, and finish required.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.5.1 Manufacturer's Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified herein with a minimum of five years documented experience.1.5.1.1 A qualified manufacturer that is a member in good standing of the Window and

Door Manufacturers Association.1.5.1.2 A qualified manufacturer that is certified for chain of custody by an FSC-

accredited certification body.1.5.1.2.1 Doors requiring environmental certification will be marked with Forest

Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certificate Code to ensure wood components come from certified forests and are processed by certified chain-of-custody manufacturers.

1.5.1.2.2 Vendor Qualifications: A vendor that is certified for chain of custody by an FSC-accredited certification body. Vendors installing FSC doors are not required to be FSC COC certified unless modifying the product beyond what is required for installation purposes.

1.5.2 Single Source Requirements: Doors shall be supplied from a single manufacturing organization.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1.6.1 Deliver, store and handle materials and products in strict compliance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations of industry standards.

1.6.2 Store materials in manufacturer's original sealed, labeled packaging until ready for installation and in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Protect from damage.

1.6.3 Store and protect doors in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations including but not limited to the following.1.6.3.1 Compliance: WDMA Standards.1.6.3.2 Store doors flat and off the floor on a level surface in a dry, well-ventilated

building. Do not store on edge. Protect/cover doors from dirt, water and abuse.1.6.3.3 Certain wood species are light sensitive. Protect doors from exposure to light

(artificial or natural) after delivery.1.6.3.4 When handling doors, always lift and carry. Do not drag across other doors or

surfaces. Handle with clean hands or gloves.1.6.3.5 Each door will be marked on top rail with opening number.

1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.7.1 Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.1.7.1.1 Environmental Limits: Do not deliver or install doors until spaces are enclosed

and weather tight, wet work in spaces is complete and dry, and HVAC system is operating and maintaining temperature between 60 and 90 degrees F (16 and 32 degrees C) and relative humidity between 25 and 55 percent during remainder of construction period.

1.8 WARRANTY

1.8.1 Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace doors that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

1.8.1.1 Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:1.8.1.1.1 Warping (bow, cup, or twist) more than 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) in a 42-by-84-

inch (1067-by-2134-mm) section.1.8.1.1.2 Telegraphing of core construction in face veneers exceeding 0.01 inch in a

3-inch (0.25 mm in a 76.2-mm) span.

1.8.2 Architectural Series Solid Core Doors:1.8.2.1 Door Warranty - Life of the Original Installation.1.8.2.2 Re-Finishing and Re-Hanging Allowances - Life of the Original Installation -

Mohawk will negotiate reasonable allowances provided the doors have been inspected and approved by an authorized representative of Mohawk. Mohawk is not obligated to honor any aspect of this warranty, if the reason for which the door is being rejected was apparent prior to hanging. Mohawk, at the company's discretion, will satisfy any legitimate claim, by repairing the door when possible, replacing the door as originally ordered, or by refunding the original sale price of the door.

1.8.3 Commercial Series Solid Core Doors:1.8.3.1 Door Warranty - Life of the Original Installation - (Excludes All Hollow Core

Doors, and All Bifold Doors).1.8.3.2 Re-Finishing and Re-Hanging Allowances - Within 12 Months of Mohawk Invoice

Date Only - Mohawk will negotiate reasonable allowances provided the doors have been inspected and approved by an authorized representative of Mohawk. Mohawk is not obligated to honor any aspect of this warranty, if the reason for which the door is being rejected was apparent prior to hanging. 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2.1.1 Stile and Rail Wood Doors: Comply with WDMA I.S. 6A-13, "Industry Standard for Interior Architectural Stile and Rail Doors."

2.2.1.2 Flush Wood Doors: Comply with WDMA I.S. 1A-13, "Industry Standard for Interior Architectural Wood Flush Doors."

2.2.1.2.1 Grade LD-1.2.2.1.2.2 Grade LD-2.

2.2.2 Wood-Based Particleboard-Core Doors:2.2.2.1 Provide wood-based particleboard core doors with a minimum density per ANSI

A208.1,

2.2.3 Structural-Composite-Lumber-Core Doors:2.2.3.1 Provide Structural Composite Lumber core as required to meet WDMA

Performance Duty Level required.2.2.3.2 Provide Structural Composite Lumber core for doors with glass openings as

required to meet stile dimensions shown on door schedule and elevations.2.2.3.3 Provide Structural Composite Lumber core for all doors with the exception of 45

to 90 minute fire rated and sound rated doors.2.2.3.4 Top and Bottom Rails: Mill Option including; Softwood, Hardwood, or SCL. MDF

rails are not acceptable. Rails are not required per WDMA standards.2.2.3.5 Structural Composite Lumber: WDMA T.M.10.

2.2.3.5.1 Screw Withdrawal, Face: Per standard.2.2.3.5.2 Screw Withdrawal, Edge: Per standard.

2.2.4 Stave Lumber Core Doors:2.2.4.1 Mill option finger jointed or butt glued wood block pine, fir, or poplar. Lumber

density is 25 to 27 lbs per cubic foot.2.2.4.2 FSC/No UF Stave Lumber Core.

2.2.5 Standard Hollow Core: 5-7 inches (127-178 mm) Honeycomb Flexigrid. 1-1/4 inches (32 mm) stiles and rails prior to trimming.

2.2.6 Commercial Hollow Core: 2-3 inches (64 mm) Honeycomb Flexigrid. 2-1/2 inches (64 mm) softwood stiles and rails-prior to trimming.

2.2.7 AgriFiber Core: LD-1 produced from Rapidly Renewable wheat straw.

2.2.8 Sustainability Requirements:2.2.8.1 Regional Materials: Where available based on inclusive list of approved

manufacturers, flush wood doors shall be manufactured within 500 miles (800 km) of Project site from materials that have been extracted, harvested, or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles (800 km) of Project site.

2.2.8.2 Certified Wood: Flush wood doors shall be certified according to FSC STD-01-001, "FSC Principles and Criteria for Forest Stewardship," and to FSC STD-40-004, "FSC Standard for Chain of Custody Certification." FSC claims are to be based on "new" wood contribution only. All recycled, reclaimed, and recovered material, even if it is FSC Recycled, shall be applied towards the MR 4 credit.

2.2.8.3 Low-Emitting Materials: Fabricate doors with adhesives and composite wood products that do not contain added urea formaldehyde.

2.2.8.4 Low-Emitting Materials: Fabricate doors that comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Health Services' "Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions from Various Sources Using Small-Scale Environmental Chambers." All composite wood and agrifiber products shall meet this requirement. Prefer products that are third party certified through SCS Indoor Advantage Gold.

2.2.9 Fire-Rated Wood Doors: Doors complying with NFPA 80 that are listed and labeled by a

qualified testing agency, for fire-protection ratings indicated, based on testing at positive pressure according to NFPA 252 or UL 10C required by Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).2.2.9.1 Label Certification: Doors requiring fire-rating will carry either UL or ITS

(Warnock Hersey) label. Manufacturer's certification labels may be used for door size variations if approved by AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).

2.2.9.2 Temperature-Rise Limit: Where indicated and at vertical exit enclosures and exit passageways, provide doors that have a maximum transmitted temperature end point of not more than 250 degrees F (121 degrees C) above ambient after 30 minutes of standard fire-test exposure.

2.2.9.3 20 Minute Rated Door Lite Openings: Maximum 1296 sq/in (8361 sq/cm) 36 inches W and 54 inches - H (914 mm and 1372 mm) with approved intumescent lined cut- out.

2.2.9.4 Cores: 45 Minute Particleboard-Core. Extra Heavy Duty 1-3/4 inches (44 mm) door only.

2.2.9.5 Cores: 45, 60, 90 Minute Mineral Core. Non-Asbestos material.2.2.9.6 Cores: 20 and 45 Minute AgriFiber.2.2.9.7 Blocking: Provide composite blocking approved for use in doors of fire-protection

ratings indicated as needed to maintain WDMA performance level and eliminate through-bolting hardware.

2.2.9.8 Edge Construction: Category A - intumescent included in door construction where required.

2.2.9.9 Edge Construction: Category B - intumescent applied to frames by door installer where required.

2.2.9.10 Pairs: Provide fire-retardant stiles that are listed and labeled for applications indicated without formed-steel edges and astragals.

2.2.9.11 Pairs: Provide formed-steel edges and astragals with intumescent seals as required.

2.2.9.11.1 Provide steel edges and astragals primed for field painting.2.2.9.11.2 Provide veneer wrapped steel edges and astragals. Veneer shall be same

specie as face.2.2.9.11.3 Finish steel edges and astragals with baked enamel, color as selected

from manufacturer's standard offering.2.2.9.11.4 Provide stainless steel edges and astragals.

2.2.10 Smoke and Draft Control Door Assemblies: Listed and labeled for smoke and draft control, based on testing according to UL 1784.

2.11.1.3 Acoustical Doors shall conform to the American National Standard, Acoustical Performance Criteria, Design Requirements and Guidelines for Schools, ANSI/ASA, S12.60. Doors into classrooms and other core learning spaces shall conform to the requirements of S12.60 with a minimum of a STC 30 operable rating. The STC rating for interior doors between classrooms and music rooms shall be not less than STC 40 operable.

3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION AND PREPARATION

3.1.1 Examine and prepare openings and substrates using the methods recommended by manufacturer for achieving best result for the substrates under project conditions.3.1.1.1 Confirm that frames comply with type, size, location and swing requirements and

that they are installed plumb and square.3.1.1.2 Inspect doors for any damage, manufacturing defects or pre-finish inconsistency

prior to installation, including but not limited to wrong color or poor finish.

3.1.2 Do not proceed with installation until openings and substrates have been prepared using the methods recommended by manufacturer and deviations from manufacturer's recommended tolerances are corrected. Commencement of installation constitutes acceptance of conditions.

3.1.3 If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of deviations from manufacturer's recommended installation tolerances and conditions.

3.2 INSTALLATION

3.2.1 Hardware: For installation, refer to Section 08 71 53 - Security Door Hardware "Door Hardware."

3.2.2 Installation Instructions: Install doors to comply with manufacturer's written instructions and referenced quality standard, and as indicated.3.2.2.1 Install fire-rated doors according to NFPA 80.3.2.2.2 Install smoke- and draft-control doors according to NFPA 105.

3.3.1 Operation: Correct any deficiency that prohibits the door from swinging or operating freely. Do not remove hinge screws after initial insertion. Shims used for alignment purposes shall be inserted between hinge and frame. Do not insert shims between hinge and door.

3.3.2 To prevent stile failure, insure that door closers are properly adjusted and do not limit the door opening swing. Limit door opening swing only with a properly located stop.

3.3.3 Finished Doors: Replace doors that are damaged or that do not comply with requirements. Doors may be repaired or refinished if Work complies with requirements and shows no evidence of repair or refinishing.
