Monday 20th April 2020Dear Parents,

As you’ll be aware from an email Mrs Shelley’s sent to you before the Spring Break, we’ve been working to set up access for each of the pupils to some online English learning.

We’re pleased to be able to inform you that this is now set up and ready for the children to use. We hope you’ll find it a really useful website for you and your child.

To access the site please go to-https://connect.collins.co.uk/school/Your child will need to log in as ‘Student’. You’ll be asked to give the name or postcode of the school. (Broomfield or CM17DN)

Then you’ll need to input day and month of birth, 1st letter of surname and year group. Below is what will appear on the screen. Each piece of information needs to be given using the drop down options.

Your child should now be into their account.

Treasure House Year 1-6Treasure House provides a flexible bank of digital pupil resources, organised into the skills laid out in the National Curriculum: • Comprehension • Composition • Spelling • Vocabulary, Punctuation and Grammar A fifth section, Reading Attic, explores immersive literature and encourages reading for pleasure, with texts and activities from the most exciting children’s authors.

The teachers have set homework tasks from the ‘Treasure House’ section, for each child in their class. The first set of homework has been set for 2 weeks, so it’s due to be completed by Monday 4th May.

Collins Big Cat (FS/KS1 Books)In this area, your children will be able to read a huge range of e-books from bandings Pink A to Turquoise. The sets of books get progressively harder.

For each book, there is a set of comprehension questions. You can access these by clicking on the orange circle (with ticks and cross in) at the end of the toolbar at the bottom of each page.

In terms of finding the right banding for your child,

The pink set is roughly equivalent to the red banded books used in school.

Our main purpose for subscribing to Collins Connect, was to provide some online English work for our pupils. Therefore, we ask that you focus on the English when using this site.

Your child has their own ‘MyMaths’ and ‘TTRockstar’ accounts for their Maths learning. However, your child can also access the ‘Games and Tools’ in the Busy Ant Maths section of Collins Connect, if they would like to. In the ’Games’ option your child can select ‘Practice Mode’ or ‘Speed Tracker’.

We hope your child thoroughly enjoys using all the programs, through this subscription to Collins, particularly the English.

Very best wishes to you all.

(Deputy Headteacher and English Lead)
