International Festival Areas of Participation Details:

The International Culture Show is a lively mixture of stage art from around the world, featuring many short to medium-length (3 to 20 minute) performances by individuals or groups. Longer play-sets may participate in the atrium. Performances focus on traditional or contemporary acts from around the world and may include vocal, dance, or instrumental performances, as well as skits, demonstrations (i.e. how to do a Japanese tea ceremony), costume parades, etc... The show is hosted on the Main Festival Stage in University Center Ballroom. There are also opening for longer sets to play in the atrium of the UC as well, providing a welcoming festive ambiance as people enter the festival!

The Atrium International Fiesta welcomes everyone into building and will be a new addition to the festival this year. We are open to ideas, as we are still building this. But the idea is to have the atrium (the open space with all the plants as you enter the UC) be a festive “Welcome!” to the festival. We envision some display booths, perhaps some fun activities in one corner like a juggler and some acrobats, and also some live entertainment that provides a friendly and lively ambiance. The Atrium International Fiesta will be more informal than the Culture Show, and performers can perform for longer there, for example. We welcome ideas!

The Children’s World provides an excellent opportunity to inspire kids to discover and appreciate other nations and cultures, through fun, unique interactive activities such as: games, making arts and crafts of other countries, story-telling, demonstrations – such as learning to write your name in Arabic, games, puppet shows, skits, songs and dances, face-painting or henna hand-painting, learning stations such as a geography table, meetings with international students or locals , and so forth. Use your Imagination! Children’s World is a mini festival all to itself, taking place in the UC Commons. Children World events are ever-changing, so your event doesn’t have to be for the entire festival time!

Finally, the Global Pavilion area of not-for-profit display booths provides an unique venue to share pictures, stories, information, and objects from other countries, as well as present internationally-focused programs and opportunities to the UM or greater-Missoula community. Cultural Pavilion booths are also permitted to sell baked goods, international arts, crafts, jewelry, etc. at the tables as fund-raisers. The cultural pavilion will be located on the third floor and in the UC Atrium this year. The first table is free for campus and students groups, and there is a nominal charge for community groups ($25). Additional tables are charged $20 a table for all groups. Baked-goods sales require proper documentation from Missoula County Health Department, which we will advise on.
