Blessing for GrandparentsLord God Almighty, bless our grandparents with long life, happiness and health. May they remain

constant in your love and be living signs of your presence to their children and grandchildren. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.Prayer for the Elderly

Lord, Jesus, with the intercession of your grandparents, Sts.

Joachim and Anne, shine your love and protection on all grandparents and all our elderly family

members. Help us to welcome their wisdom, and together with them praise you for the gifts of faith, hope and love. Give them strength and grace to

embrace a living faith. And when our earthly life is through, may we all be reunited together, one day in heaven. Amen.

Grief Support GroupI would like to start a Grief Support Group in the parish this fall. This support group is not a therapy or counseling group. It is mainly a support group that may provide emotional support and education about grief and loss. A grief support group is one of the best ways to meet other people experiencing grief/loss. We will meet once a week for 6 weeks. The group members will not be more than 10. If you are interested, please contact me, and let me know the day and time that would be suitable for you.

17th Sunday in Ordinary TimeJuly 25, 2021

Today we celebrate the first annual World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly as instituted by Pope Francis. We have been taught that parents are the first teachers of their children especially in the areas of faith, morality, and work. However, in today’s society, grandparents have often been the ones called upon to take on that role and to be the active parent in their grandchildren’s lives. In too many families, grandparents have become the ones who actually raise their grands due to parents who are unable or unwilling to do that. Grandparents are often the ones who can talk about their faith with their grandchildren. They can share with the family history and help them appreciate their ancestors. Grandparents can hold the wider family together and can sometimes serve as a reassuring buffer between squabbling siblings or between parent and child. Grandparents forgive, even when they suffer the pain of disappointment or hurt. Our elderly, in general, have much wisdom to share with us. They are often the keepers of the stories that become important to us at some time in our lives. In them we can see lives well lived in faith and trust in God. We can view their earnestness and unselfishness in the way they carry out their mission (because all of us are called to mission!). God calls upon us to honor our mother and father, and certainly that means our grandparents and elders, as well.

Please see the following page for a prayer and blessing for grandparents and the elderly.

Please remember, we are unique, so is our grieving of our loved ones.PS: Prior to the starting of the Support Group, I’ll have an informational session for the prospective members to find out if you would like to join the group.  A grief support group, like the other support groups, is not suitable for everybody.Facilitator: Fr.
