3rd Sunday of Lent Year B March 7th

Welcome before Mass: (Commentator)

Tēnā Koutou Katoa. I warmly welcome you here today, the third Sunday of Lent, Year B. We come together now as a baptized people, gathered into Christ in whose light we dwell, and by whose grace we are healed. The celebration of the Eucharist asks for our full and conscious participation. Let us prepare to participate fully and consciously by taking a few moments to be silent. (20 … seconds - stay at microphone). Welcome to ……………………… (parish name). Let us stand as one people and sing together.

Prayer of the Faithful (NOTE: an option for singing the response is provided – if you choose to use this, please sing it through at the beginning of the prayer, giving people an opportunity to learn and respond, then after each petition.)

For world leaders – that they use their influence on the global market constructively, making sure the poorest and most overlooked nations can obtain the necessary goods for their citizens, and that these nations have viable opportunities to participate in and benefit from the world economy.

For all Christian people – that we will be diligent in prayer for the whole human family and for each other, and that we will seek to heal and overcome divisions in the Body of Christ.

(Silence) READER: In your mercy Lord ALL: Hear us now we pray.

For people who make their living by selling products – that they will sell worthwhile products that contribute to the dignity of life, price goods honestly, treat customers and all whom they meet with respect, and be supported in business by their communities.

(Silence) READER: In your mercy Lord ALL: Hear us now we pray.

For those in prison – that they will have the opportunity to reflect on how they might contribute positively to society, and that through the care of other people, pathways of support and guidance will open for them, to do this.

Concluding Prayer: O God, whose foolishness is wise, and whose weakness is strong, by the working of your grace during this holy season of Lent, purify our hearts so that we may become living temples of your love. Grant this through Christ, our liberator from sin, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen
