Composites and components Who is in the current Royal Family?-Know our current Royal era is called the Elizabethan Era-Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Phillip-Children: Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward.-Charle’s (oldest son and first in line to throne) Children: William and Harry. -William (oldest son and second inline to throne) and Kate’s children, George (oldest son and third in line to throne), Charlotte and Louis. -Harry and Meghan’s children: Archie. -Queen Elizabeth started her reign in 1952-Queen Elizabeth is our longest serving queen to date. -The Queen lives at Buckingham Palace and also Windsor Castle. Understand how the line to the throne works that it goes to the first born and know that in line to the throne is Charles, William, then George.

What does the modern Queen do/what is her role?-Although the queen no longer has political or executive role she continues to play an important part in the life of the nation. -Queen Elizabeth is the head of the armed forces. She is the only person who can declare war and decide when it is over.

Year 3 History - However, must take advice from government first. -She is the head of the Church of England. She represents the nation at times such as celebration or sorrow e.g. Remembrance Day and Christmas. -Queen Elizabeth can grant knighthood or damehood to a person.

Who was Henry 8 th and why is he so memorable?King of England from 1509-1547 -Best known for having 6 wives. -He was desperate for a son for a male heir. -Catherine of Aragon Henry’s first wife he divorced. Had Mary together who would later become Queen-Anne Boleyn second wife. He had her beheaded. She was the first Queen to be beheaded publicly. -Jayne Seymour – 3rd wife gave Henry his first son. She died.-Anne of Cleaves (4th wife) Divorced -Kathryn Howard (5th wife) - beheaded -Catherine Parr last wife survived.-Henry 8th was born catholic. Due to his many marriages including 2 divorces he started the reformation of the Church of England. -Mary Queen of England (his daughter) later reformed England back to Catholicism. - He is also known as “Father of the Royal Navy as he invested heavily into the Royal Navy, increasing its quantity of ships.

Year 3 History - Catherine of Aragon. -Brother of Edward 7th and took his place in reign after he died. -She is best known for her rigorous attempt to reverse the English reformation which begun during her father’s reign. Born a catholic Marys fathers Henry 8th Changed England to church of eEgland. She later reversed this back to Catholicism. -Also known as bloody Mary due to burning 300 English protestants. -Talk about Mary 1st relationship

with brother Edward 7th. -Understand why Edward 7th tried to have Mary 1st removed from the line in throne. -To know what happened to Queen Mary’s re-establishment after her death and why.

Who was Queen Anne of Great Britain? How was she influential?-Queen Anne was Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland reigning from 1702-1707.-Grew up as an Anglican and had Anglican views. She was in favour of the conservative party due to sharing religious views with them. -Queen Anne was the last monarch from the Stuart’s house. -During her reign Queen Anne united England and Scotland, created the United Kingdom of Great Britain. -Despite being an unremarkable ruler Queen Anne was in very poor health throughout her reign. -To understand how Queen Anne united England and Scotland to create the United Kingdom-Understand why she created the United Kingdom.

Being very nitpicky but use of the word 'despite' doesn't fit with the rest of the sentence. Queen Anne is a fascinating and sad character from what I know - knowledge based on what I learned from an open bus tour in London!

Composite – Who was Jesse Steven? How did she fight for equality?-Jessie Stephen was a 20th century British sufferagette, labour acitivist and local counsellor. -She moved to Bedminster , Bristol. In 1953 Jessie becomes the first woman president of the Bristol Trades Council.-She argued if women had the right to vote the whole community would have greater leverage in the struggle to improve pay, working conditions, secure decent housing and to protect children’s health. -Jessie received her MBE for her trades union work.

Composite –Who was Hannah Moore? How did she influence change?-1745-1833 Hannah More was one of the most influential woman of her time. -Hannah More was born in Fishponds, Bristol. -She was a poet and a playwriter.

Year 3 History - -She was a campaigner for social form, female education and abolition of the slave trade. -She was a slave campainger.-She wrote a poem called “Slavery” in order to achieve abolition. -Hannah more was also an educator. She visited Cheddar and was appalled by the poverty she found there. -She set up schools around the area for poorer children. -Today there are schools in Bristol named after her.

Composite – Who was Mary Anning? How did she lead the way for women in Science? -Mary Anning struggled financially and came from a poor background. -Mary Anning got into fossils from her father. She used to sale fossils to support herself financially. -She is known for finding dinosaur fossils before anyone knew what dinosaurs were. -During Annings time women were not allowed to vote, hold public office or attend university. -Anning being a woman couldn’t be a member of the geological society so was an outsider to the scientific community. -Anning knew a lot
