New NAVCA Chair announced

We are very happy to announce the appointment of Judy Robinson as the new Chair of NAVCA's board of trustees.

Judy has played an integral role in the VCSE sector as a staff member, as a volunteer and as a board member, including being an elected NAVCA trustee since 2015. She is very well known and extremely highly regarded within the NAVCA membership and across the wider voluntary sector.

Judy said: “I am very pleased to be elected as the Chair of NAVCA. Infrastructure is so important for supporting strong, modern and diverse social action. I want to work with members, stakeholders and allies to make sure NAVCA is at the heart of fresh thinking and practical support for infrastructure.”

Judy takes over with immediate effect from the interim chairmanship of Alison Semmence. We would like to thank Alison for her support and effort during her time as interim chair, and also thank Judy for taking over the chair.

She joins our two elected vice chairs, Julie Farrow and Richard Jackson, in leading our fantastic board of trustees and supporting our staff team as we move forward into a new decade with our new strategy.

More NAVCA members complete cyber security training

Another dozen NAVCA members from across England now have staff who are trained in delivering cyber security information, thanks to NAVCA's partnership with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

Attendees gathered at Voluntary Action Leeds last week to learn more about the risks from cyber crime and the steps charities and voluntary organisations - and anyone who uses digital tools - can take to keep themselves safer.

NAVCA's Programmes Manager Daniel Haslam said: "Over 40 people have now taken part in the training, from as far afield as North Devon, Norfolk and Newcastle upon Tyne.

"Our aim is to work with NCSC to equip our members with the information they need, to go on to deliver training in their own communities, to help their local charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises reduce their risk.

"We’re very pleased to have worked in partnership with NCSC and our members to develop this vitally important programme."

If you are a NAVCA member organisation and would like to take part in our next cyber security 'Train the Trainer' programme, please email [email protected] to add your details to our waiting list. Travel expenses for attending the session will be covered.

Once a member of your staff has attended the session, your organisation will be eligible for funding of £350 per session to deliver the training locally, subject to agreement with NAVCA. All materials are provided for you to use in the session.

Want to know more about social investment?

Social Investment Unpicked is an online training programme for local social infrastructure organisations. The training is designed to respond to the need infrastructure organisations have, in fielding questions from the frontline organisations they support, in respect of financial sustainability and resilience; and exploring possible approaches using social investment.

This face-to-face training will soon be piloted online. The prototype will be user tested during mid-February to mid-March. Before that, Big Society Capital would really value your thoughts on this method of learning so they can design an effective online learning experience. Please take 10-15 minutes to complete a survey which will help in the design of the online programme. To take part in the survey, please click here.
