" The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; Thou dost support my lot.

...Indeed my heritage is beautiful to me."(Psalm 16:5,6)

Over this past season, we have gone by several markers in the continuing story of the Shrift Tribe. On January 25th, the Lord called our grandson Elijah Stephen, the third child of Stephen and Martha, to Himself, less than an hour after his birth. Up until that week, no problems had been detected with mom or baby, so that came as a sudden shock to all of us.

About two months later, on April 3, our 7th grandchild, Tulia Michelle, was born to son Nathaniel and his wife Danielle in New Hampshire. In May, we were blessed with the opportunity to visit the U.S. for our son Daniel's graduation from John Brown University, to meet Tulia, and to participate in Elijah's memorial service. Our vacation ended with a totally unexpected twist: the day before we were to return to Brazil, I (Eric) was admitted to the hospital with acute atrial flutter which required heart surgery the following day... performed by a Brazilian cardiologist... in New Hampshire! God's timing and humor are amazing! The procedure was 100% curative; and, thankfully, there should be no further physical issues with my heart.

With much excitement we have the pleasure of announcing the engagement of our son John to Rebecah Ann Nogeira. She is a missionary linguist who works in the same village where John has been stationed for over a year. They are graduates of the same Bible Seminary and share a vision for ministering to the Yanomami tribe. The surprise proposal event involved John's flying secretly to a just-opened jungle airstrip with his brother Nathaniel's antique kayak and paddling 9 1/2 hours to a river island, where Rebecah and her co-workers "found" him while they were on their weekly outreach to other villages. John is now in the US raising the support needed to continue sharing God's love with the Yanomami, and will return to Brazil for his wedding, planned for October. We are also excited over Nathaniel and Danielle's ministry plans for reaching people groups here in the northern Amazon. They are now members of New Tribes Mission and are hoping to have enough support by the end of the year to relocate to Manaus and begin language study.

They are an adventuresome and versatile couple with personal backgrounds in tribal work. You will be blessed by their blog at ntm.org/nathaniel-shrift

Thank you all for your faithful support and continued prayers on behalf of our whole and growing family!

In the service of our wonderful Jesus,
