“Your Song” Originally sang and written by Elton John, is a popular song brought back into fashion by Ellie Goulding. Their music videos were both Conceptual and Performative as they didn’t reference anything in the lyrics, Elton John’s Video was in black and white, and Goulding’s was in bright old style videos with textured and sepia looking video filters to make the videos look like home videos. Ellie Goulding video seems more narrative than John’s as it featured aspects of having a wonderful life, with friends, family and pets in the video. Both videos had aspects of performance where they were lip-syncing to the song, John’s always featuring a microphone and Goulding’s featuring a microphone and piano play. Coincidently they both had the videos outside and used only hand-held camera, along with close-up shots.

Relationship between the Visuals and Audio:Singing- Lip Syncing

Seeing through the beats:Lip Syncing throughout

Ellie Goulding uses her Music Videos to promote mainly her star image, her videos are purely conceptual and performative due to the abundance of narrative, and there is usually no link to her lyrics in the video however there are hints of things like when she sings about a house in Your Song- Her video shows a house. Her Star Image is very clear in all her music videos, long blonde hair and brown eyes, her music always has a piano and the videos are usually always based around natural and being outside in natural light. She is always singing in sync with the beats and so there is always an aspect of performance- as well as some dance and costume changes.
