This was a great chance for us as administrators to share facts about our four Columbus Catholic schools with our Catholic school community at large. Those in attendance heard about the improvements that have been made in our schools, whether those were improvements made to our physical plants or advancements made in our academic programs. The audience also heard about challenges that lie ahead, which includes rising costs, generating enough income, and physical improvements that must be addressed. Did you know, for example, that the actual cost to educate one child in our school is $5,400? As you see, tuition only covers a portion of the actual cost. The bottom line is we need YOU. We need all of our Catholic school parents to continue to support our schools as much as you can. We need parents to say ‘yes’ when asked to volunteer. We need parents to support our fundraisers and give on a regular basis in the weekly Mass collections. And, most importantly, we need you to pray for our schools, that we will always be guided by the Spirit of Truth. Thank you for choosing and supporting Catholic education! State of the Schools RecapBy Cheryl Zoucha, Principal

Thank you to those of you who attended one of our State of the Schools Addresses earlier in August.

School Reminders*Absences: Please call the school office by 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent. (402-564-7153) Parents can request missed homework. The best time to pick it up is after 3:00 p.m. which gives the teacher plenty of time to get it ready. *Medications: If your child needs medication during the school day, please fill out the blue Authorization to Dispense Medication form. Students may bring cough drops to school and keep them in the classroom.*Emergency Card: If any information changes on your emergency card, such as address, telephone numbers, or place of employment, please inform the school office as soon as possible.*Notes from the Office: Typically all notes from the school office will come home with your oldest child. Please check with them often to see if there are important notes for you. If a note requires a response from the parent, please send it back with the oldest child. That teacher is expecting it to be returned to them.*Sending money to school: There are many reasons to send money to school. Here are some helpful hints to make the process easier

1. Lunch money should always be in an envelope marked LUNCH MONEY. Checks for lunch money should be made out to Scotus Cafeteria.

2. Tuition should be sent in your tuition envelope or should be in an envelope marked TUITION.

3. Checks for scrip should be written out to St. Bonaventure School.

4. When sending cash, please have the correct amount. We do not keep cash on hand in the office and may not be able to make change. This goes for tuition, lunch money, scrip, field trips etc.

5. Please put your child’s name on the envelope every time you send money to school.

Grab-n-Go BreakfastGrab-n-Go breakfast has begun. Punch cards are $5. Most items are a quarter. Items include small water, juice box, cheese-its, Scooby snacks, bagels & peanut butter and fruit. Gogurts and Applesauce are 50¢. Breakfast will be offered everyday from 7:40 – 7:55 a.m. except when it is a day we are having Mass. Please refer to the monthly calendar. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who make this program possible!!!

Box Tops ChangeBox Tops for Education will be transitioning to an App. They will be fazing out the box tops to cut out on products. Here are the steps to get started on the App.

1. Get the App for Box Tops For Education

2. Create an account3. Find your school you want to donate

your Box tops too. If you put in the zip code, a list of schools appears.

4. Select St. Bonaventure Elementary5. Scan your grocery receipts within 14

days of purchase. The app is very easy to use. The scan button is to the right of the HOME button at the bottom of the screen. We suggest scanning your receipt right in the grocery store so you don’t forget.

The great thing is you instantly see how much you’ve earned for your school and how much our school has earned overall!!

School Picture DayThursday, Sept. 12

This is a dress up day.

Page 3: school.stboncc.comschool.stboncc.com/.../uploads/August-Newsletter-2019.docx · Web viewPlease call the school office by 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent. (402-564-7153) Parents

No blue jeans please. It is fine for girls to wear tennis shoes to school with a dress. The

children will be playing on the playground at recess. A sweater or jacket must be worn all

day with a dress with spaghetti straps.

All School Mass The students are doing well with having mass in the Social Hall. We will have limited chairs set up in the back for parents to join us. Mass begins at 8:15 a.m. and is usually on Friday. Check the monthly calendar for any changes.

Congratulations! We’d like to congratulate Mrs. Danielle Bender, our PE teacher, & her husband Jordan on the birth of a little boy this summer. Colton James Bender was born July 5. He was 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 21 inches long. He joins big brothers Grayson & Emmitt

Noon DismissalsIn the past, on noon dismissal days, the children were served lunch. However, this year only two days with noon dismissals will have lunch. These days are Oct. 17 (because Scotus has school all day) and Dec. 18 (because the Home & School Association will provide pizza before Christmas break). If your child goes to childcare on a noon dismissal day without lunch, they will need to bring a sack lunch.

School Uniform Reminders*The website to order uniform t-shirts and sweatshirts is: inkedcolumbus.com/bonaventure/shop/home.T-shirts can only be ordered twice a year. They will be available again in December. All other items can be ordered anytime. The ¼ zip and full-zip jackets are a nice addition to our uniforms.

*Uniform shorts can be worn until Oct. 31st. Starting Nov. 1 long pants will be required. *The best places to purchase the Hamilton plaid skort or jumper is the Dennis Uniform Company, Joy’s Uniform in Columbus and the French Toast website (frenchtoast.com). Starting Nov. 1 tights or leggings must we worn with a skort or jumper.

Student Council AssembliesThe Student Council at St. Bonaventure is made up of members of the 6th grade class. They plan assemblies throughout the year. Activities included at assemblies are prayers, birthday recognition, skits, announcements about upcoming events and awards. Assemblies will be at 2:50 p.m. in the Social Hall. Check the monthly calendar for dates. All parents are welcome to attend.

Scrip News*The scrip program has been very busy since school started. Scrip can be purchased at school anytime during the school day. Thanks also for all of your patience this summer with the construction and location of the scrip box. We think we have finally found a good spot to sell on Sundays in the cafeteria. Look for our seller in the northwest corner of the cafeteria by the glass office.*Attached to the newsletter is a scrip preorder form. You can send an order and payment with your child and we will fill the order and send it back home (usually the same day unless we are out of something). We do have convenient scrip folders to use. It is any easy way for teachers and your child to see a scrip order in their book bag. If you do not have one and would like to try it, please call the school office. *New this year with PrestoPay! You now have an option to use a credit card to pay for scrip when you are purchasing cards through Shopwithscrip.com. If you are interested in setting up an account on PrestoPay, please email Chrissy Lade at [email protected]. She will need

your name, email, phone number and tuition credit designation. *If you are a Shopwithscrip.com user, you can help St. Bonaventure win free shipping from Great Lakes for a year. When you spend a minimum of $50 from August 19-September 14, St. Bonaventure Elementary will be entered in a drawing. This would be a great thing to win, because we spend at least $8.50 a week on shipping from the Great Lakes Company.

Thanks for all of your support of this important fundraiser for our school.

Updates to the libraryAs many of you saw at our first Home & School meeting, there were many changes in the library this summer. We will be using a new scanning system to check out books. We’ve also moved some bookshelves to make a great open area for our students. Here are a few pictures of the 2nd graders enjoying the new comfy chairs.

PE ShoesIt. is important that all students wear tennis shoes on PE days. We have PE on Mondays, Wednesdays and every other Friday. Please refer to the monthly calendar for PE on Fridays. It is important to wear shoes that are supportive for running!

o If you need to come into the building you must park at NPPD. You must enter and exit the NPPD parking lot from the west entrance.

o If a parent is parked at the NPPD parking lot before or after school, the crosswalk must be used.

o Students may be dropped off at 7:40 a.m. in the morning before school. There is no adult supervision before this time.

o If a student has not been picked by 3:35 p.m., they will be taken to the office. The student will need to be picked up at the Social Hall doors on the east side of school.
