Y1 - Home Learning Week 3 (20/04/20) (Make sure you help with the household chores each day too) Reading Read your favourite book, library book and school reading book. Then using your Reading Record or ‘Reading at home question sheet’, answer some of the comprehension questions. Writing Write a daily diary while you are off. Remember to include the activities that you did that day, how you feel and something you are looking forward to doing the following day. You can include: Adjectives, verbs and alliteration. Remember- Capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns, full stops at the end of sentences. Question marks for questions and use your best cursive handwriting! Make tracks and roads on the floor or in the grass and use you toys to travel to different local location. e.g. Art / DT Make a kite using things you can find in your home. This could be an old newspaper, carrier bag, straws or kabab sticks. It would be lovely to see pictures of your kites on Twitter when you have made them. Help your grown-ups with the cooking where you can Maths Draw some shapes on the floor and get your child/children to go around the house and see how many of these shapes they can find and sort. Number bonds- can you find different ways to make the numbers- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 … all the way up to 20? Use the number of the day sheet attached to show all the different ways Using money, find out how many different ways you can make the same total. (For example, how many ways can you make 65p).

Times table practice- 2s,3s,5s and 10s. Practice multiplying and dividing by these numbers. In class, we have been drawing or making these groups using arrays to support our understanding.

Some questions to ask your child whilst reading together:

1. Look at the front cover. What could the book be about?

2. Who is the author?

3. What is an illustrator? What do they do?

4. What does that word mean? Read the words around it to help you figure it out

(context).

5. How can you read an unfamiliar word? Can you sound talk and then blend?

6. Who are the main characters?

7. What do you think will happen next?

8. How do you think that character feels? Why? How would you feel in that

situation?

9. Can you predict how the book will end?

10. Who is your favourite character? Why?

11. Is there a hidden message in the story? What is it?

12. Can you retell the story in your own words?

13. Do you like how the story ended? Can you think of another way the book

could have ended?
