ASSESSMENTS AND GRADING (Honors Biology)

MLK Grading Scale: At the end of each quarter (nine-week period), we will add 3 points to the quarter grade, per honors credit

policy. 93-103 A 85-92 B 75-84 C 70-74 D <70 F

*Formative Assessments (0%): - Formative assessments consist of work done during the learning process.- They may include in-class assignments, class discussions, practice assessments, in-class group activities, etc. - Students will get feedback (in the form of comments, a rubric, a score, class discussion or review), but any scores for these assignments will not average into the quarter grade. - Failing to complete formative assessments will result in a complete lack of preparedness for summative assessments. - Formative assessments are ALL done in order to prepare for the summative assessments.

*Summative Assessments (90%): - Summative assessments are work products completed at the end of a unit or set of lessons.- They are performance, not practice.- They may include quizzes, tests, labs, projects, etc. - Scores will count toward the quarter grade.-No assessment will be assigned a weight greater than a factor of 2.

*Homework (10%): -Biology homework will consist of Chapter RNV (reading, notes, and vocabulary) and work in the Reading and Study Guide workbook. -Failure to complete homework will result in a lack of preparedness for class. -Pop quizzes may be administered to ensure students are completing their homework and preparing for class.
