1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Single source for design, engineering, production, warranty and warranty service.1. Manufacturer shall have at least 20 years experience in manufacturing makeup air

equipment.

B. Installer Qualifications: Licensed and experienced with mechanical equipment installation, testing and start-up. Familiar with code and AHJ requirements and restrictions.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

7. Construction - General:a. Furnish and install Modular Air Processing System for treatment of up to 100%

constant outside air per plans and specifications. Unit shall be completely factory assembled, tested, internally wired, fully charged with Refrigerant R410A, and shipped in one piece. Unit shall consist of insulated weather-tight casing with optional field installed outdoor intake hood, compressors, air-cooled condenser coils, condenser fans, evaporator coils, supply fan, motors and drives, and unit controls. Packaged Cooling and Heating Units shall carry an ETL listing.

8. Refrigerant System:a. Compressor systems shall be designed to provide 3 to 8-stage capacity

increment for treatment of up to 100% outside air with up to 80 degree F (27 degree C) dewpoint entering the unit. Hermetic compressors shall include a scroll design with internal pressure relief and motor temperature winding protection. Units shall be equipped with reversal rotation protection. Refrigeration protection shall include low and high pressure switches, refrigerant circuit frost protection, liquid line filters/dryers and service gage ports. Refrigeration control shall include thermal expansion valves, external equalizers and distributors for each compressor. Hot gas bypass options shall be available on all refrigerant stages in addition to multiple steps of capacity modulation to supplement discharge air control. The refrigerant system shall have an adjustable 5 minute minimum ON and minimum OFF timer circuit protection. The refrigerant circuit shall have an anti-cycle time in addition to the minimum ON/OFF timer that prevents the compressors from cycle on the minimum timer circuit.

a. Unit shall include a dedicated compressor and refrigeration circuit using full condenser reheat or total heat of rejection in the supply airstream. The circuit shall be capable of delivering a nominal 13 degree F to 17 degree F (-11 degree C to -8 degree C) temperature rise from the main evaporator temperature without the need for modulating the capacity for all entering outside air conditions. The method of reheat shall comply with ASHRAE 90.1 requirements. Dual compressor systems shall be designed to provide 4 to 8 stage capacity increment using integrated DDC control. The refrigerant circuits shall include thermal expansion valves with external equalizers. Service gage ports and refrigerant line filter dryers are factory installed as standard. Pre-cooling coils shall be two row depth with 6 fin per inch to minimize air pressure drop. The reheat coil position shall include a minimum separation of 4 inches (102 mm) from the cooling coil to eliminate re-evaporation of cooling coil condensate.

10. Evaporator and Condenser Coils:a. The refrigerant system shall include a horizontal discharge air cooled

condenser. The copper tube-aluminum plate fin evaporator coil is 4 rows with 15 fins per inch to meet SHR values of 0.60. All multi-circuit evaporator coils are of the interlaced and split face configuration to reduce the risk of coil freezing at part load. The evaporator coils shall be protected from frosting by a low temperature cutout. The coils shall be leak tested at the factory to ensure pressure integrity.

The drain pain shall collect potential condensate from all evaporator/condenser coils and distributor area in the air stream to prevent blow-off condensate reaching unprotected bottom unit surfaces.

a. Heating shall be provided by a gas-fired heating section designed to provide a minimum 80% thermal efficiency throughout the modulated range.

b. The system shall modulate the gas and combustion air to maintain temperature setpoint and thermal efficiency. 13. Cabinet:a. Outer casing is fabricated from G90 galvanized steel substrate with 60 gloss

painted finish coat. Structural members shall be 18 gauge (1.3 mm) with double-wall access doors. Roof panels shall be 20 gauge (1.0 mm) with double wall 2 inches (51 mm) insulation liner. The cabinet design shall prevent condensation forming on the outside of the unit casing in operation via a dedicated thermal break. Fully gasketed, hinged doors of double-wall construction shall provide access to filters, dampers, evaporator coils section, supply fan section. Provide hinged single wall construction doors for the heater section and control section. On hinged doors frequently used for service (i.e. filter and coil access) lift and turn style door handles that do not require the use of a tool to gain access shall be installed. The unit control panel section shall be laid out to provide separation of high and low voltage components per UL standards. The control panels shall be hinged for easy access to the unit controls. For ease of service, all electrical components will be clearly identified with 1/2 inch (13 mm) diameter self adhesive labels to match the unit specific wiring diagram. The low voltage and unit controller access electrical panel shall be physically isolated from the high voltage section. The open door to the control section reveals the wiring diagrams, DDC programming instructions and all manuals and literature protected and permanently attached to the cover. Control transformers will incorporate integral, resettable circuit breaker protection.

unit without the removal of any doors or access panels.14. Air Side:

a. The outdoor condenser fan shall be direct drive, statically and dynamically balanced, draw through in the vertical position. The condenser fan motor(s) shall be permanently lubricated and have built-in thermal overload protection.

Bearings shall be self-aligning, pillow block, ball bearing with provision for re-lubrication via extended lube lines and rated for a minimum L50 (average) life of 175,000 hours. Frame and bearing support shall be constructed of heavy gauge welded angle iron.

d. Motor shall be continuous duty, thermally protected, permanently lubricated, ball bearing with a 1.15 service factor. Electrical characteristics and enclosure per schedule. Drives are to be selected for 125% of driven horsepower. Blower pulleys shall be cast iron, variable speed. The fan system shall be fully vibration isolated using springs and flexible connectors. The fan system shall be

15. Controls:a. The unit control panel section shall be laid out to provide separation of high and

low voltage components per UL Standards. The primary control panel shall be hinged for easy access. Controls shall be factory configured for the design application with both the required hardware, operating parameters, and typical default control setpoints. The controller is factory mounted on the unit and is pre-wired to the unit controls. The controller shall have visual (LED) status of power, running, and errors. LED indicators for transmit/receive for networks and for each of the 12 outputs. The unit shall have battery backup to maintain control program and data for a minimum of 10,000 hours during power outages. The controller shall have unit mounted display with two line 40 alpha/numeric character per line display providing full access to all commission variables, setpoints, alarms and diagnostic functions. The controller shall have BACnet (ARC156, MS/TP, and PTP) network communication available without the need for further programming or external devices. The control system shall have the capability to communicate using LonWorks protocol.

7. Construction - General:a. Furnish and install Modular Air Processing System for treatment of up to 100%

constant outside air per plans and specifications. Unit shall be completely factory assembled, tested, internally wired, fully charged with Refrigerant R410A, and shipped in one piece. Unit shall consist of insulated weather-tight casing with optional field installed outdoor intake hood, modulated capacity scroll compressors, air-cooled condenser coils, condenser fans, evaporator coils, supply fan, motors and drives, and unit controls. Packaged Cooling and Heating Units shall carry an ETL listing.

8. Refrigerant System:a. Compressor systems shall be designed to provide 10 to 100% capacity control

for treatment of up to 100% outside air with up to 80 degree F (27 degree C) dewpoint entering the unit. Hermetic compressors shall include a scroll design with internal pressure relief and motor temperature winding protection. Units shall be equipped with reversal rotation protection. Refrigeration protection shall include low and high pressure switches, refrigerant circuit frost protection, liquid line filters/dryers and service gage ports. Refrigeration control shall include thermal expansion valves, external equalizers and distributors for each compressor. Hot gas bypass options shall be available on all refrigerant stages in addition to multiple steps of capacity modulation to supplement discharge air

control. The refrigerant system shall have an adjustable 5 minute minimum ON and minimum OFF timer circuit protection. The refrigerant circuit shall have an anti-cycle time in addition to the minimum ON/OFF timer that prevents the compressors from cycle on the minimum timer circuit.

9. Reheat Systems:** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** RDC/RDDC/REDC only. Delete if not required.

a. Models shall include a dedicated compressor and refrigeration circuit using full condenser reheat or total heat of rejection in the supply airstream. The circuit shall be capable of delivering a nominal 13 degree F to 17 degree F (-11 degree C to -8 degree C) temperature rise from the main evaporator temperature without the need for modulating the capacity for all entering outside air conditions. Reheat shall comply with ASHRAE 90.1 requirements.

b. Dual compressor systems shall be designed to provide 4 to 8 stage capacity increment using integrated DDC control. The refrigerant circuits shall include thermal expansion valves with external equalizers. Service gage ports and refrigerant line filter dryers are factory installed as standard. Pre-cooling coils shall be two row depth with 6 fin per inch to minimize air pressure drop. The reheat coil position shall include a minimum separation of 4 inches (102 mm) from the cooling coil to eliminate re-evaporation of cooling coil condensate.

10. Evaporator and Condenser Coils:a. The refrigerant system shall include a horizontal discharge air cooled

condenser. The copper tube-aluminum plate fin evaporator coil to be 4 rows with 15 fins per inch to meet SHR values of 0.60. All multi-circuit evaporator coils are of the interlaced and split face configuration to reduce the risk of coil freezing at part load. The evaporator coils shall be protected from frosting by a low temperature cutout. The coils shall be leak tested at the factory to ensure pressure integrity.

check-out of the unit.11. Condensate Drain Pan:

a. The condensate drain pan shall be fabricated from stainless steel. The drain outlet shall be attached to a sloped drain pan with a minimum 1/8 inch per foot (10 mm per meter) slope. The sloped drain pan shall be of a removable design. The drain pain shall collect potential condensate from all evaporator/condenser coils and distributor area in the air stream to prevent blow-off condensate reaching unprotected bottom unit surfaces.

12. Heating System:** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Models RDCC/RDDC only. Delete if not required.

a. Heating shall be provided by a gas-fired heating section designed to provide a minimum 80% thermal efficiency throughout the modulated range.

b. The system shall modulate the gas and combustion air to maintain temperature setpoint and thermal efficiency. The heating system shall be factory installed and design certified to ANSI Standard Z83.8/CSA 2.6.

13. Cabinet:a. Outer casing is fabricated from G90 galvanized steel substrate with 60 gloss

painted finish coat. Structural members shall be 18 gauge (1.3 mm) with double-wall access doors. Roof panels shall be 20 gauge (1.0 mm) with double wall 2 inches (51 mm) insulation liner. The cabinet design shall prevent condensation forming on the outside of the unit casing in operation via a dedicated thermal break. Fully-gasketed, hinged doors of double-wall construction shall provide access to filters, dampers, evaporator coils section, supply fan section. Provide hinged single wall construction doors for the heater section and control section. On hinged doors frequently used for service (i.e. filter and coil access) lift and turn style door handles that do not require the use of a tool to gain access will be used. The unit control panel section shall be laid out to provide separation of high and low voltage components per UL standards. The control panels shall be hinged for easy access to the unit controls. For ease of service, electrical components will be clearly identified with 1/2 inch (13 mm) diameter self adhesive labels to match the unit specific wiring diagram. The low voltage and unit controller access electrical panel shall be physically isolated from the high voltage section. The open door to the control section reveals the wiring diagrams, DDC programming instructions and manuals and literature protected and permanently attached to the cover. Control transformers will incorporate integral, resettable circuit breaker protection.

14. Air Side:a. The outdoor condenser fan shall be direct drive, statically and dynamically

balanced, draw through in the vertical position. The condenser fan motor(s) shall be permanently lubricated and have built-in thermal overload protection.

forward curved blades mounted with adjustable pitch sheave drive assembly. Complete fan assemblies shall be statically and dynamically balanced in accordance with the latest ARI guideline and ANSI 2.19. All fan motors shall be thermally protected.

c. The supply fan(s) shall be backward inclined suitable for AMCA Class I operation. Wheels shall be SWSI and constructed of welded steel with airfoil blades, and dynamically balanced in 2 planes. Bearings shall be self-aligning, pillow block, ball bearing with provision for re-lubrication via extended lube lines and rated for a minimum L50 (average) life of 175,000 hours. Frame and bearing support shall be constructed of heavy gauge welded angle iron.

d. Motor shall be continuous duty, thermally protected, permanently lubricated, ball bearing with a 1.15 service factor. Electrical characteristics and enclosure per schedule. Drives are to be selected for 125% of driven horsepower. Blower pulleys shall be cast iron, variable speed. The fan system shall be fully vibration isolated using springs and flexible connectors. The fan system shall be statically and dynamically balanced in accordance with the latest ARI guideline and ANSI 2.19.

15. Controls:a. The unit control panel section shall be laid out to provide separation of high and

low voltage components per UL Standards. The primary control panel shall be hinged for easy access. Controls shall be factory configured for the design application with both the required hardware, operating parameters, and typical default control setpoints. The controller is factory mounted on the unit and is pre-wired to the unit controls. The controller shall have visual (LED) status of power, running, and errors. LED indicators for transmit/receive for networks and for each of the 12 outputs. The unit shall have battery backup to maintain control program and data for a minimum of 10,000 hours during power outages. The controller shall have unit mounted display with two line 40 alpha/numeric

d. Commissioning control variables shall include outdoor setpoints for heating and cooling sequencing.

f. The control system shall be able to provide neutral air and space temperature control per the sequence of operation shown.

16. Outdoor Air Section:a. Outdoor air inlet hood shall include 1 inch (25 mm) permanent filters. Units

designed for 100% outside air intake only shall include an integrated transition section (without return air opening) designed specifically for 100% outside air introduction to allow uniform coil velocity and filter loading. The motorized damper shall be spring return for closure during unit shutdown or power interruption.

18. Full Perimeter Curbs:a. The curbs available from the manufacturer shall be designed to meet the

National Roofing Contractors Association August 1985 guidelines for roof mounted installations. The roof curbs shall be 12 gauge (2.8 mm) zinc coated steel with a 2 inches by 6 inches (51 mm by 152 mm) nailer. Factory curb shall be required for systems requiring vertical discharge or return air connection. The curb is shipped knocked down with assembly instructions.

2.3 AIR TURNOVER

A. Vertical Air Turnover Unit:1. Unit: Reznor Model AEB indirect fired units.2. Construction - General:

a. Provide an indirect fired air turnover unit with power burner. The configuration shall be as detailed on the drawings. The heater shall be in accordance to ANSI requirements. The entire unit shall be ETL certified, listed and labeled.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete installation not required.1) Unit shall be designed for indoor installation.2) Unit shall be designed for outdoor installation.

b. Unit shall be completely factory run tested. An instantaneous flow meter shall be used to confirm the firing rate. A full combustion test is to be conducted complete with analyzer computer print out. A detailed test report and installation and maintenance manual shall be sent with the unit.

3. Cabinet Construction:a. Unit exterior casing shall be constructed of heavy gauge galvaneal steel. The

unit shall incorporate a minimum two inch (51 mm) structural iron welded support frame. The entire structural iron frame shall be primed with a high build epoxy rust inhibitor.

b. The propeller fan section shall be insulated with 1 inch (25 mm) 2 lb (0.9 kg) density fiberglass insulation for sound attenuation. The insulation shall be placed in perforated liners. All fans shall be secured on two inch (51 mm) wide 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick full perimeter neoprene isolation. To ensure the casing is airtight all panels shall overlap and be caulked.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.c. Units without heating section have 48 inches (1219 mm) tall transition section

with 2 inches (51 mm) insulation and perforated metal liner between fan deck and discharge plenum as standard for sound attenuation. Refer to drawings for extensions required to increase unit height as indicated.

d. Each section of the unit shall have pre-punched structural angle mating flanges for final assembly. All hardware and gasket shall to be provided by the factory and sent with each unit.

e. A minimum 3 mil (0.08 mm) coat of chain stop alkyd enamel paint shall be cured on at a minimum temperature of 140 degrees F (60 degrees C). Units shall be finished machinery grey color unless indicated otherwise.

4. Blower/Motor Section:a. Unit shall be supplied with two, low noise propeller fans. Each propeller fan

shall have a minimum of six airfoil blades. The unit shall be statically and dynamically balanced at the factory.

b. The fan wheel shall be mounted on a heavy duty machined and polished solid steel shaft. The shafts maximum operating speed is not to exceed 75% of its first critical speed. The propeller motors shall be T-frame, ODP type with a 1.15 sf (0.11 sq m). The motors shall be mounted on a fully adjustable base.

c. The bearings shall be heavy duty pillow block type. Fan bearings shall have an L-10 bearing life base of 100,000 hours. The propellers are to be driven with adjustable 1.5 sf (0.14 sq m) V-Belt drives.

d. Unit shall have a hinged and gasketed fan access door with heavy duty roller action, full compression latches to provide easy access to maintain and inspect motors, belts and bearings. Each door shall be equipped with electric safety door switches.

5. Heat Exchanger Section:a. The heat exchanger shall be a four pass design. Minimum efficiency shall be

b. Internal baffling of the secondary tubes is not acceptable. The heat exchangers primary and secondary heat transfer surfaces shall be constructed of 409 series stainless steel. Units shall be provided with multiple condensate drains when modulating. The heat exchanger section shall have an internal radiation shield to maintain a jacket loss of less than 2% of the rated output.

c. All heat transfer surfaces, including headers and the front collector box, shall be inside the casing and in the air stream. The construction of the heat exchanger shall permit free, unrestricted lateral, vertical and peripheral expansion during the heating and cooling cycle without damage or strain to any part.

b. A flat filter section shall be provided with lift out filter tracks. Flat filter sections are utilized only when the unit height is a concern. The flat filter section reduces overall height of a unit when provided with filters. Filters shall have an average arrestance of 76.4% in accordance with ASHRAE standard 52.1. Filter velocities not to exceed 500 FPM (152 MPM). Expanded metal shall be supplied around the perimeter of the unit to provide support to all filters and eliminate the possibility of a filter being pulled in to the fan section. A complete additional set of construction filters shall be provided for each unit.

a. An inlet damper shall provide up to twenty percent outdoor air. The damper shall be provided with a flanged duct connection. The direct drive spring return actuator is provided with an adjustable clutch to balance the percentage of outdoor air required.

b. A mixing box integral section shall support the unit and provide access to the dampers. Return air and inlet dampers of galvanized steel construction. A minimum of six breaks per blade shall be provided to strengthen the blades. Maximum leakage rate not to exceed 20 cfm per square foot at 4 in. w.c. differential pressure. Dampers are to be operated with direct drive spring return actuators.

e. Blades are to be internally insulated with expanded polyurethane foam and thermally broken. The complete blade shall have an insulating factor of R-2.29 and temperature index of 55.

c. Coils shall be pressure tested to 250 psig to ensure no refrigerant leaks. Coils designed around 400 CFM per ton. PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Test for proper operation. Adjust and

retest until proper operation is achieved.

B. When installed, the unit shall be electrically wired and grounded in accordance with local codes or, in absence of local codes, with the current National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70.

3.4 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
