In year 5, we study the novel My Name is Mina by British author David Almond. The main character is a nine-year-old girl called Mina. The book is written in the form of Mina's diary. In this part of the text, Mina starts keeping a diary for the first time, and thinks about what she wants to write in it.

Task 1 - Comprehension:Answer these questions in full sentences about what you have just read:

1. Is it daytime or night-time in this extract? How can you tell?2. Just by looking at the first few lines, what are your first impressions of Mina’s character?3. Why do you think the fourth line is written differently to the rest of the text?4. What does Mina mean by “clean white space”?5. ScienceResearch amphibians and reptiles. I’m sure you already know some information on amphibians after looking at their life cycles. Can you find out some of the similarities and differences between them?
