IMPORTANT - READ CAREFULLY: Lab questions are now broken into PRE-LAB, LAB, and POST-LAB components. Please go to the EE1305 website and read the lab procedure, and complete all of the PRE-LAB sections, BEFORE coming to the lab.

Pre-Lab - Question 1: What is SN74ATC08? How many pins does it have? How many logic gates does it have?

Draw truth table for AND gate?

Pre-Lab - Question 2: What is Ultrasonic Sensor?

Ultrasonic sensor comprises of two transducers. One is working as transmitter and the other work as receiver. What does transmitter transducer do? Convert sound in the ultrasonic range into electrical energy Convert electrical energy into thermal energy Convert electrical energy into sound in the ultrasonic range Convert light into sound in the ultrasonic range

What does receiver transducer do? Convert sound in the ultrasonic range into electrical energy Convert electrical energy into thermal energy Convert electrical energy into sound in the ultrasonic range Convert light into sound in the ultrasonic range

NOTE: For this week’s lab, you are individually work for all procedures and everything should be completed by yourself. You are provided with necessary instructions.

Lab – Procedure 1: Connect SN74ATC08 AND gate on breadboard. Connect DIO0 and DIO1 of analog discovery to pin1 and 2 of the AND gate. Follow the procedure 2 on the website to change the setting for DIO0 and DIO1 and create signals. Put your UTEP ID across your breadboard and take a picture of your UTEP ID and the circuit on your breadboard, and include it in your report.

Play with the time scale of your oscilloscope, and collect screenshots on your oscilloscope and show separately: (1) the signal into the DIO0 channel, (2) the signal into the DIO1 channel, and (3) the combined signal (AND gate output) or the 1 ms pulse with the 40 kHz embedded signal.

You can watch video for more guidance:

You can connect DIO0 and DIO1 to AND gate as shown below:

Lab – Procedure 2: Follow procedure 4 to build first band pass filter in Figure 4. Put your UTEP ID across your breadboard and take a picture of your UTEP ID and the circuit on your breadboard, and include it in your report.

You can build the band pass filter at first stage as shown below:

Lab – Procedure 3: Build whole circuit in Figure 4 in website. Put your UTEP ID across your breadboard and take a picture of your UTEP ID and the circuit on your breadboard, and include it in your report.

I placed ultrasonic sensor at a certain distance from the wall. The pulsed signal created in procedure one is fed to the transmitter of ultrasonic sensor. The transmitter converts the pulse signal to sound wave. The created sound wave hit the wall and reflected back from the wall. The reflected signal is then measured by the receiver of ultrasonic sensor. The receiver converts reflected sound wave into electrical signal. I measured transmitted and received signal and saved the data as .CSV file. You see three .CSV file in website for three different distance of 0.5, 1 and 2 feet between wall and the ultrasonic sensor. You need to download .CSV file one by one and import this data using Wavegen. This data is fed to the input of your circuit by connecting the yellow wire (W1) to the input of your circuit. Connect Ch2+ to the output of final stage in your circuit. Using signal measured at Ch2+ you can calculate distance from the wall. You can watch video to see how to calculate distance from the wall using data measured at Ch2+:

Picture for final circuit implementation will be added

Based on the scope measurements, take 3 screenshots at different distances.

Fill the table below. Include distance calculation step by step here:

Post- Lab – Step 1 Organize all of your Figures and tables neatly in your Word document. Figure caption is placed at the bottom while table caption should be placed on top of the table. For any figure you copy from website, please include reference number at the end of figure caption. Then cite to the website in Reference section of your report.

Post- Lab – Step 2 In a few sentences, answer the following sentences. You can also answer them in your Word doc if you want to type/need more room.

What was the frequency of transmitted/received signal?

Which type of filter did you build for ultrasonic sensor? (low, high or band pass filter)

Explain why you need to use that type of filter (your answer for previous question)? Why not two other types?

Post- Lab – Step 3 In a few sentences, answer the following sentences. You can also answer them in your Word doc if you want to type/need more room.

Describe steps you need to complete to design ultrasonic sensor for measuring distance? Give a summary of steps. (You can answer this question by reading step 1 to 4 in procedure1 on the website). Please use your own words.

Post- Lab – Step 4 Include the Figures, add your answers and solutions in this document. Upload this document in the respected folder in the blackboard for grading.
