O for a Faith That Will Endure

O for a faith that will endureThough pressed by many a foe;

Habakkuk 2:4. “Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.”

“When it rains, it usually pours” is an accurate dictum that describes our lives at times. Troubles at home, at work and in almost all areas of our lives occur when we least expect it. In times like these, our faith is stretched so thin that we feel like giving up.

Habakkuk felt that way when God told him that the Babylonians were appointed by the LORD to chastise God’s people, Judah. Yes, Judah was in sin, testified Habakkuk. But were not the Babylonians more evil and wicked than Judah? How could God use such a heathenistic and wicked nation to destroy His own people?! Habakkuk was told by the LORD that the just must trust Him. They, each and every Jew, must live by their own faith.

Today we see the same dilemma that confronted Habakkuk. Professing Christians are living in carnality and sin. They are bringing great disrepute to the holy and blessed Name of Christ. Millions all over the world are duped by them into thinking that they are going to heaven but sadly they are still heading toward hell upon death! When will God punish these evil men? God will use the Antichrist to destroy His church in the last days! The Antichrist is many times worse than these false teachers. Yet the destruction will certainly come. The LORD has summarily declared it to be so. It will not be changed! No man can stop this!

In our lives, we face similar situations where righteousness is rewarded with persecution. Great injustices in life have become the norm. Faithful Christians have become the world’s whipping boy! Surrounded by corrupt Christianity in the midst of persecution, will your faith hold? When the morality and biblical norms in this world are destroyed, will your faith hold? If you have to stand alone in the face of persecution, will you still hold on to Holy Scriptures to guide your life or will you turn your back on Christ?

This year’s camp theme is “The Just shall live by HIS Faith”. Every believer needs this faith to be born again. It is this same saving faith that must be exercised in order to live a victorious life in Christ, even when everyone seems to think it is crazy to do so. If you are standing alone in the storm of deception, in the midst of the tidal wave of wickedness, will your faith hold? Our faith in Christ must hold and stand true. It needs to be stronger than ever before because the LORD asks: when He returns will He find faith on the earth? Luke 18:7-8,

“And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” He must! He must find faith in you and in me by His grace and mercy!

May God help us to hold on to our faith till we see our Saviour’s face. Amen.

Dear Campers

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Calvary Pandan’s Family Bible Camps are usually held on the third week of June. This year, by God’s appointment, the church camp is on the second week of June and I thank God that so many of you can make it.

Church camp is a blessed time that you spend away from the hustle and bustle of life in busy Singapore, to study God’s Word and to have fellowship one with another. I pray that all campers will enjoy and treasure this time of spiritual and physical refreshment over the next six days.

This year, we will be studying the book of Habakkuk. The theme of the camp is “The Just Shall Live by His Faith” – Habakkuk 2:4b. It is a short book with three chapters, but it holds many precious lessons for us. As we live in the 21 st

century, we see and experience much wickedness around us, as Habakkuk did during his time. Will we remain strong in our faith? Will we continue to rely on God as our strength? Will we persevere to the end and receive the promise of reward in heaven? May the Word of God be our strength and encouragement!

Thank God for the provision of the camp speakers, our pastor Rev Quek Suan Yew, Elder Choong Sin Chun and Preacher Ko Lingkang, to deliver God’s Word. I would also like to thank God for the provision of teachers and helpers for the children’s programme, and many others who have helped in one way or another.

As we look forward to the camp, I pray that God will grant us a blessed and meaningful time.

General Be a good testimony for the Lord wherever you go, especially to the hotel

staff and other hotel guests. Be polite and put on your best smile, “live peaceably with all men”. Please do not remain in other people’s rooms past midnight. Please cooperate with members of the Camp Committee. Parents are to ensure the safety of their children. Please wear your nametags to help us identify one another.

Meetings Honour God by your punctuality – do not be late for meetings. The tea-breaks are meant to be short – please return to the message hall

on time. Please do join in the group discussions – they are part of the camp

programme as well. Be appropriately attired for all meetings; this also applies to children

attending the Children’s Programme. Sports attire is to be worn for outdoor activities only. Remember to bring along your Bible and Camp Booklet.

Security Keep your room mate(s) informed of your whereabouts. Bring along all your valuables and important documents,

or keep it in the safe deposit box. Do not leave your room unlocked at any time. Always check if you have left anything behind before leaving your room,

the message hall, or your dining table.

Accommodation For all rooming matters, please contact the chief registrar – Sarah. Report all defects and damages promptly to the registrars. Be a good witness by keeping your room tidy and neat. Be careful not to lose or misplace the card key to your room. No open fire cooking is allowed. Do not bring strong-smelling fruits like durians and jackfruits into

the hotel.

Before the Camp Adequate supplies of personal medication for your existing medical

conditions including medication for common ailments (cold, headache, fever, diarrhea, etc). Medical supplies brought by the camp doctors are meant for emergency/urgent situations.

If you are feeling unwell, please ensure that have been cleared by a physician before travel and bring masks to prevent the spread of any infections.

After arriving at the camp, please inform the camp doctors of your medical condition. Pack adequate warm clothing such as jackets and long pants as the main

hall and the meeting rooms can be cold. Consider bringing a portable light source for your viewing needs as the

hall may not be sufficiently lit and may cause eye strain. Campers travelling alone are to provide an emergency contact person to

the registrars. Consider to purchasing travelers’ insurance for yourself and family if

needed.

Drivers Please familiarize yourself with the route and driving directions

provided by the transport IC. Please consider to travel in a convoy. Consider sending your vehicle for a complete preventive maintenance to ensure optimal working condition Check your tires for worn threads and ensure that the spare tire has

adequate pressure. Ensure that you have an emergency plan (or contact) in the event of a

vehicular breakdown along the route. Ensure that you have at least 8 hours of rest before the start of the

journey. Comply with all Malaysia traffic rules in particular speed limits.

Hotel AreasHotel Room

Campers are encouraged to use the standing shower instead of the bathtub.Please bring you own bathmat to facilitate the absorption of any excess water from the shower area as the hotel may not have sufficient quantities.

Please be gentle with the bathroom door as it is made of glass. Any excessive force may crack the structure. Please bring suitable extension cords and adapters for your electrical

needs. Do not daisy chain or overload the electrical plug. Avoid using any form of travel adapters and always remember to switch off any power before leaving the room.

Staircases/Escalator The staircases leading to the lower levels are steep and can result in

tripping incidents if not used properly. Always use it by holding the handrails.

Young children shall not use any staircases unless accompanied by an adult.

Senior campers who are physically challenged are encouraged to use the lifts.

Swimming Pool There may not be an on-duty lifeguard at the swimming pool. Adults must accompany children at all times. No running or shoving at the edge of the pool. Outdoor games are not permitted at the pool area. For incidents involving injury, please seek medical attention from the

Camp Doctors and Nurses (i.e. Medical Team). For non-injury cases, please report to the Camp Master, Safety Officer or any camp committee.

If you note any unsafe conditions, please report to the Camp Master, Safety Officer or any camp committee member.

Outdoor & Indoor Games Campers are not allowed to play any other indoor games except official

games organized by the game master Ensure that you have sufficient rest and water when playing any

outdoor games. If you are feeling unwell, please consult any camp doctor for medical advice.

Fire Emergency In the event that the fire alarm is activated, please evacuate in a calm

manner to the fire assembly area when told to do so. Please do not use the elevators.

Upon reaching the assembly area, please check-in with your discussion group leader who will take your attendance.

You are reminded to bring only critical items such as medicine, passport and cellphone for communication.
