Get your grown up to test you on a Friday.

Story Time

This week’s story is ‘If I Had a Dinosaur’ by Gabby Dawnay. You can watch and listen at the link below.

If I Had a Dinosaur, Read By Eddie Redmayne - YouTube

What would be the best thing about having a dinosaur? What would be the worst thing? Draw a picture and write a sentence to share your ideas.

Our Favourite Dinosaur

Let’s survey to find out Primary 1’s favourite dinosaur.

Choose your favourite dinosaur from triceratops, tyrannosaurus rex, apatosaurus, stegosaurus or scelidosaurus. I will start a thread in the ‘chat’ section of our team where you can cast your vote.

Create a pictogram of the results using the attached worksheet. Pay close attention to the ‘key’. You might need to cut some dinosaurs in half!

Dinosaur Habitat

Research and discuss where dinosaurs lived. Create a dinosaur habitat! Use boxes, stones, twigs, leaves and dinosaur figures or pictures.

Invent a New Dinosaur

Create your own unique dinosaur. You can choose its size, shape and colour, as well as what it eats and where it lives. Draw and colour it. Label its features. Don’t forget to give it a name!

Dinosaur Discovery

Find out fun facts in this game about dinosaurs, where you must act like a scientist who studies dinosaurs (a palaeontologist).

Maths

There are a few dinosaur maths activities for you to try this week.

There is an I spy sheet full of different dinosaurs – remember this can be quite trick – cross them out as you count.

There are 2 dinosaur dot -to- dot sheets and both are a challenge. 1 sheet goes to numbers above 20 and 1 goes to numbers above 100!

There are dinosaur sums to revise our addition to 20 skills.

There are 2d shapes to cut out to design your very own dinosaur.

Health and Wellbeing

Create a list of foods an herbivore dinosaur might eat if they were alive today.

Create a list of foods a carnivore dinosaur might eat if they were alive today.

Create a Dinosaur Menu. Be as creative as you can! Can you think of a starter, main course and dessert?

Dinosaur cookies

Bake your very own dinosaur cookies. I’ve attached a link for a recipe you might want to try. You could shape them like a dinosaur, a foot-print or even a fossil. We tried these out at the weekend and pressed a dinosaur’s foot into the cookie dough. The cookies were delicious.
