Structure of study programmeStudy program of basic professional studies Occupational therapy for a degree of Occupational Therapist (occup. therap.), lasts 3 years and it is conducted in six semesters with a total of 1.800 hours of instruction. Teaching is performed in the form of lectures, practical exercises, seminars, thematic workshops and professional practice of students.Total engagement of students through all forms of the teaching is expressed by the number of 180 ECTS credits. The implementation of ECTS was performed according to non-modulated system (courses may have different number of points, so the total number of credits in one academic year is 60). Number of points for each course was determined in relation to the defined tasks that student is expected to complete in order to achieve learning objective and outcome. Student achieves points provided for the course by passing the final exam.During I and II semester students generally acquire knowledge in basic medical sciences courses that are important for the studies of Occupational therapy (Anatomy, Physiology...), and also learn about the aspects of aging and disease concepts, closely related to the field of occupational therapy (Psychological, sociological and andragogical aspects of aging and disease). In the course of next semesters teaching focus shifts toward therapeutic courses and learning about the basics of occupational therapy and rehabilitation (Physical therapy, Nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, Kinesitherapy, Occupational therapy with fundaments of ergonomics...). During V and VI semester professional courses in the field of occupational therapy (Fundamentals of internal medicine with occupational therapy in internal medicine, Occupational therapy in psychiatry, Fundamentals of surgery with prosthetics and orthotics and occupational therapy in surgery, Occupational therapy in neurology, Occupational therapy in rheumatology) are dominant and in almost all courses, students have mandatory professional practice with a significant number of classes in the manner provided in the courses curricula. In this sense, the institution has provided teaching bases: clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, spas and other appropriate facilities.Elective courses are provided in II-VI semester, in regard with that in II and III semester electiveness relates primarily to the selection of a foreign language (English or German) and from IV to VI semester electiveness relates primarily to the introduction to selected chapters of highly specialized courses, and also to the selection of a foreign language. Curricula of elective courses are designed to allow students to expand their knowledge on some topics that are less processed within the obligatory courses, expand knowledge about certain aspects of occupational therapy (legal legislation, ethical aspects, management, communication skills...), improve their IT skills and to get adequately introduced to the various disciplines in this area. In this sense, part of the elective courses orients students toward selected areas of occupational therapy enabling them training of specific methodological work skills (Patronage nursing and home health care, Occupational therapy of women from gynecology and obstetrics, Health care and occupational therapy of children and adolescents from pediatrics...).Classes in all courses take place in one semester in accordance with the teaching plan. The most important methods of teaching are:1. interactive lectures2. exercises (exercises)3. seminars4. professional practiceInteractive lectures are characterized by a discussion of teachers and students about the topics that are the subjects of lectures and provide students with a better understanding of the material in relation to the classical theory teaching ex cathedra. Multimedia presentations as well as the most modern means for displaying the content of teaching are characteristic for this method of teaching.Exercises allow students independent work and practical realization of theoretical knowledge (suggestion

of the best therapy, preparation or discussion of a prescribed diet, joint debate about an ethical issue, communication skills, etc.), all that with the active participation of students.Seminars allow students to rehearse independent use of literature, electronic databases and presentation of selected topics that are processed with minimal support of course’s teachers and assistants.Professional practice, as probably the most important part of professional studies, allows students mastering the skills (of the "craft") and it is performed in representative and reputable teaching centres (clinics, hospitals, health care facilities, nursing homes, spas, etc.). Professional practice is carried out in all three study years (retrospectively with more teaching hours). During the internship student learns to apply and develop knowledge and skills that they acquired during the studies, build personal professional attitude, behaviour and responsibility to the profession and service users.
