Outline for Sabbath School Teachers with ideas for group discussion inspired by the Teachers’ Edition of the Sabbath School Lesson prepared by the General Conference SS ministry. Lesson n. 07 09 - 15 May 2020 Title: Language, Text and Context Key texts: Deut. 31:26; 32:46,47; 2 Tim. 3:16,17; Num. 6:24-26; Gen. 1:26;27; 2:15-23; 15:1-5; 1 Kings 3:6. A. Themes to Explore: 1. Things have transpired in such a way as to render this book accessible to many languages and peoples. 2. In many cases the Bible has contributed to human progression: consider the Hebrew people and others who have adopted the Bible. 3. It is necessary to clarify some fundamental principles which render the text understandable. This lesson offers some of these principles. B. Learning Objectives 1. Understand that drawing near to the Bible means taking into account what His Word says. God uses our language, we must be attentive to what He says, the insistence He uses, the emphasis He places. It means analysing the text, the context and the whole book. C. Possible questions for deeper study, debate, reflection and sharing of the Word 1. Read Deut 31:26 and 32:46-7. What testimony would you share that gives credit to the promises of these very precise words? 2. What fundamental principles for analysis (hermeneutics) does the lesson propose? List them, share them and discuss them. 3. What principles listed this week have helped you the most in your personal understanding of the Bible? 4. What arguments do you think you can use to help build other people’s confidence in the word of God?
