About the Enterprise Program: The Enterprise Program operates in a fee-for-service business model as an agile branch of the Forest Service delivering highly skilled on-demand services supporting land and resource management activities. Enterprise is a national program organized under Washington Office, Business Operations. The Program was created to support increased productivity and effectiveness through applying business practices within the Forest Service infrastructure. Enterprise employees are nimble and able to supply rapid response services across all levels of the Forest Service. This is particularly advantageous to the agency when specialized skills are not otherwise available or when workload exceeds capacity, which also greatly benefits the taxpaying public. The program is currently comprised of over 250 employees stationed nationwide, and is growing. Enterprise strives to deliver a ‘best value’ by consistently monitoring national and regional strategic objectives and the evolution of the Forest Service workforce composition to offer targeted, timely and cost effective services in alignment with what is emerging on the agency’s horizon.

The program provides: Agency managers with a highly-skilled workforce that is flexible in supplying on-demand services. A wide variety of services in the areas of Cultural Resources and Heritage, Recreation, Timber,

Engineering, Technology, Communications, Biology, Range, Timber, Watershed, Forest Planning, Special Uses, and Fire, Fuels and Aviation Safety.

About these Positions:Enterprise Program Timber Services is outreaching to find many candidates for our upcoming 2019 Field Season. Temporary 1039 positions will be filled at GS-0462-3 Forestry Aid and GS-0462-04/05/06 Forestry Technician positions. These positions are located in the Washington Office, Business Operations, Enterprise Program. The Timber Services program within Enterprise has field work to conduct throughout the United States in 2019. Field Operations require extensive travel for all field going employees.

At the GS-3 Forestry Aid level the incumbent takes and or records basic measurements such as compass readings, distance measurements, tree heights, tree diameters, tree growth, and determines common species.Receives training on marking trees for cutting using tools such as Spiegel Relaskop, clinometer, compass, chain, diameter tape, increment borer, electronic field data recorder, etc. Traverses boundaries of harvest units.Assists in cruising timber by taking and recording simple measurements and running compass lines in the field using compass and chain. At the GS-4 Forestry Technician level the incumbent selects and marks individual trees for harvest using well defined marking guidelines, silvicultural prescriptions, and specific instruction. For 3-p sampling, estimates individual tree volume by established methods. Traverses harvest units, processes information and produces maps. Designates sale area and cutting unit boundaries on the ground. Interprets Aerial Photos and locates ground features. For timber cruising, serves as tally person and may operate electronic field data recorders. Assists in the measure of limiting distances, tree diameter, tree height, estimation of defect and quality, and related fundamental timber cruising procedures. Timber cruising is done under the direct supervision of a qualified timber cruiser. (FS2466)

At the GS-5 Forestry Technician level the incumbent independently applies silvicultural prescriptions and marking guides to designate harvest timber. Brings to the attention of responsible individuals situations on the ground that are inconsistent with guidelines. Acts as a certified timber cruiser. Independently applies the instructions issued in a cruise plan. Takes and records tree measurements, assesses quality, and determines defect. Prepares and computer processes cruise data. Observes and reports areas of possible archeological significance, and sightings of sensitive, threatened or endangered wildlife species.Traverses harvest unit boundaries, road locations, and determines area. At the GS-6 Forestry Technician level the incumbent Executes timber cruises and assists with preparing and developing timber cruise and sample surveys to develop resource information and estimate quality and quantity of timber for purpose of appraisal, sales administration, management planning, and logging plans. Assembles and summarizes data, and prepares reports and maps regarding areas cruised. Lays out sales in accordance with EAR and other instructions, considering variables such as accessibility, steep slopes, stream protection, nesting tree protection, wildlife impacts, fuels management and regeneration requirements. Brings to attention of responsible individual situations where specific prescriptions do not fit ground conditions. Independently marks trees using and adapting complex marking rules in areas complicated by variations in type, species composition, defect, site, age, class, etc. (FS5588)

The selected applicant(s) must possess highly developed skills in communications and human relations in order to maintain good working relationships with customers and other team members. Incumbent must be a fast learned and be able to understand and follow Forest Service policies and procedures. Enterprise Timber Services is an extremely busy group and the incumbent must be energetic, responsible and self-starting! Enterprise Program emphasis is on partnerships and the delivery of seamless customer service to their clients. This position may require extensive travel, working with a large, diverse group of people, and field work in rugged terrain. The incumbent must be flexible to change on a daily basis. About this position: GS-102-05 Archeological Technician (Field Crew Member) The selected incumbent(s) serves as a crew member for an archaeological field crew in identification, evaluation, and management of historic properties. The selected incumbent(s), interprets and applies technical guidelines to analyze archeological data in preparing reports for situations where precedents are not fully applicable. Makes recommendations to be used in "determinations of effect" and "determinations of eligibility" by the archeologist. Compiles and reports information about the nature and extent of known cultural resources. Incumbent also helps with marketing One Enterprise heritage services, and obtaining and performing work that contributes to the preservation, management, and understanding of heritage resources.

The selected applicants must possess highly developed oral and written communication skills and human relations in order to maintain good working relationships with partners, clients, peers and team members in person and virtually. Incumbent must be a fast learner and be able to understand and follow Forest Service policies and procedures. Enterprise Heritage Services is an extremely busy group and the incumbent must be energetic, responsible and self-starting!

GS-102-07 Archeological Technician (Field Crew Leader)In addition to the duties and responsibilities above, the Field Crew Leader serves as a senior technician on archeological surveys and insures the work is accomplished within established rules and methods. The Crew Leader prepares Cultural Resource Inventory reports and site forms. Enters site and inventory information into databases and GIS maps and is responsible for monitoring archeological projects to ensure sufficiency of fieldwork.

The Crew Leader leads cultural resource inventories in areas of proposed Forest Service projects. Researches reference materials such as State and National register files, historic documents, archeological reports, maps and aerial photos, and interview source individuals concerning project areas. The Crew Leader ensures that archeology work assignments are carried out in safe, timely manner according to established standards and procedures and reviews work in progress to see that standards for pre-field research, survey design, site recording, graphics, and final report are being met. Advises other employees on methods of cultural resource inventory and provides written instructions, research materials and supplies to all involved in planning and operation of natural resource activities.

Archeology work may include strenuous outdoor activity, such as walking, climbing, riding (ATV), backpacking and overnight camping, often in steep, rough terrain in isolated areas in a forest environment. Work is performed outdoors where terrain may be steep, uneven, rocky, and covered with vegetation. Climate ranges from extremely dry to extremely wet and from hot to cold. Rain, snow, wind, or dust may be encountered. The work may require the use of protective clothing and footwear.

The selected applicant(s) must maintain good working relationships with customers and other team members. Incumbent must be a fast learned and be able to understand and follow Forest Service policies and procedures. About this Position: GS-170-9 Historian The incumbent serves as principal investigator in the identification, evaluation, and management of historic properties. Carries out projects which will include, but are not limited to, -historic property evaluations (Determinations of Eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places), National Register of Historic Places nominations, historic property management plans, historic property rehabilitation, restoration and adaptive re-use plans, -

Is responsible for or makes significant contributions to the preparation of historic preservationdocumentation, compliance, and background materials for clearances, permits, licenses, etc., as required by Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and cultural resources management guidelines for all Forest Service activities. - plans for, and executes historical investigations required to meet NHPA and Forest Service guidelines.

About these Positions – Biology Field Ops:Enterprise Biology Field Ops is outreaching to find candidates for our upcoming 2019 field season. Temporary 1039 GS-0404-05/06/07 Biological Technician positions will be filled. hese positions are located in the Washington Office, Business Operations, Enterprise Program. Selected applicants will be conducting field work throughout the United States and extensive travel will be required. Work may include strenuous outdoor activity, such as walking, climbing, riding (ATV), backpacking and overnight camping, often in steep, rough terrain in isolated areas in a forest environment.

Selected candidates must have a proficient understanding of biological principles, be able to identify common plants and/or wildlife species, and efficiently utilize reference materials such as dichotomous keys. Technical skills such as use of ArcMap, ArcGIS, and Excel are desired. Candidates must possess highly developed skills in communications and human relations in order to maintain good working relationships with partners and other team members. Candidates must be quick learners and be able to understand and follow numerous Forest Service survey protocols, policies, and procedures. The crew lead will communicate directly with clients, advise other employees in methods and work in tandem with the supervisor to meet program objectives. Candidates for the Lead Biological Technician (Wildlife) position must be experienced in conducting a variety of established survey procedures for wildlife species such as Northern Goshawk, Northern Spotted Owl, Mexican Spotted Owl, and other survey and manage species.Candidates for the Biological Technician (Plants) position must have an excellent knowledge of plant taxonomy and the flora of North America.
