HOW TO USE THIS TEMPLATE

This template was created to make it easier for you, as an Author, to implement the writing style of Berkala Arkeologi. This template document that you will use below is made with the actual size and type of font of our published articles. All you have to do is copy and paste your original text into this document. Please notice that the published version of the accepted articles will be slightly different with this template, following the latest layout of Berkala Arkeologi.

Here is how to use it:

- Open the original manuscript and this template, for convenience it is recommended to place two open file windows side by side.

- Select the text you want to copy from the original text and right click "Copy". Our writing style has different font sizes in several sections, so you cannot copy-paste as a whole at a time / Select All-Copy Paste.

- Paste the selected text into the template by right-clicking and selecting the "paste special" option, then choose "keep text only" (WINDOWS OS: button with the letter A above the clipboard).

- For tables and figures it is recommended to copy paste into the textbox provided in the template. Copy and paste images and tables using the usual option, not special paste.

When you have finished, delete this section of the guidelines and upload your manuscript file to berkalaarkeologi.kemdikbud.go.id

ABSTRAKInstruksi ini menjadi panduan dalam penulisan pada Jurnal Berkala

Arkeologi. Untuk bagian abstrak gunakan teks ini sebagai template penulisan, kami menggunakan huruf BOOK ANTIQUA REGULAR, 9pt, rata kanan-kiri, tegak, dan satu spasi. Dokumen elektronik naskah disesuaikan dengan gaya selingkung yang diacu oleh Jurnal Berkala Arkeologi. Abstrak maksimal 150 kata, memaparkan dengan jelas permasalahan pokok, alasan penelitian, tinjauan/ulasan, kajian yang dilakukan, metode yang digunakan, dan penyataan singkat hasil akhir kegiatan yang telah dilakukan. Abstrak tidak perlu mencantumkan gambar, tabel, rumus, atau kutipan pustaka.

Kata Kunci: Terdiri dari 4-6 kata; gunakan titik koma dan bukan koma; huruf kapital hanya di awal

ABSTRACTThese instructions give you guidelines for preparing papers for Jurnal Berkala

Arkeologi. For abstract, use this text as a template, the font that we use is BOOK ANTIQUA REGULAR, 9pt, justify alignment, and single spacing. The electronic file of your paper will be formatted further at Berkala Arkeologi. Abstract length in English maximum is 150 words, giving a brief summary of the content, reason of research, review study, the methodology, and a brief statement about the research and its result and prospect. Do not include any picture, tables, equations, or references in abstract.

INTRODUCTIONIntroduction includes research background, research question/s,

objectives, hypotheses (optional), research design, theoretical basis, and literature review.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Subject of the article is ARCHEOLOGY, other disciplines such as anthropology, history, geology, geography, architecture, etc. are still permitted if they have strong links with archeological studies. If the article is discussing foreign culture, it must show connection with Indonesian and/or Southeast Asian archaeology. The length of the manuscript must be at least 5,000 words and not more than 7,000 words, including references.

The article may be written in Indonesian or English. For selected editions we may support author with translation services at no charges. But if you want to submit your paper in English, we expected you to ensure that the script is written in good and correct language. Manuscripts in English written by authors whose first language is not English are advised to be proofread by native English speakers first.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Manuscripts have never been published in any forms of publication. If it is known that there is an element of plagiarism, the text will be rejected. We are implementing Turnitin Plagiarism Check, the required similarity percentage of your article must be not more than 3%.

Submitted article must be in accordance with this template. This document that you are reading is an example of the writing format that you will apply to your submission. For uniformity and convenience, you are required to copy and paste your manuscript into this template. Use the Paste Special command in Microsoft Word, select Paste Text Only, so that the style in your original document can follow the style in this template.

CONTENT LAYOUT: typed in A4 paper size, margin 3 cm (top and right) and 4 cm (bottom and left) using the ANTIQUA REGULAR BOOK font 11pt, single spacing.

CITATION STYLE: written in the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th or 7th version style (or newer version). It is mandatory to use Mendeley software in making citations and references. Citation using software is easier to manage and will provide you consistency in the writing of References.

IN TEXT CITATIONS. It is not allowed to use footnote. Although it is not a must, we urged you to provide the page number of the cited text whenever possible. Citations for more than two (2) must be shortened using et al. Example of citation style that we use are:

1. without page numbers, author more than two (Reese-Taylor et al., 2018).

2. with page numbers, author more than two (Reese-Taylor et al., 2018, pp. 200–213).

3. without page numbers, one to two authors (Aldenderfer & Maschner, 2020).

4. with page numbers, one to two authors (Aldenderfer & Maschner, 2020, p. 20).

AVOID the use of acronym in sentences, such as e.g., etc., cf., op cit., and i.e. Whenever acronym is being use, please provide the full name on their first usage (example: Balai Arkeologi (Balar)).

ARTICLE STRUCTURE (HEADING)These structure below in practice will be Heading 1 in the article, and must be adapted as is, no changes allowed. You are welcome to make different Heading 2 and 3, and heading 4 is not permitted.

INTRODUCTION (Background - Objectives - Hypothesis (optional)- Research design - Theoretical basis - Literature review).

METHODS (Including an explanation of the location and time of research - type of research - Data collection techniques - Data analysis methods).

RESEARCH RESULTS (Research Data - Analysis / Interpretation).

DISCUSSION (Synthesis of research results - exploring the significance of research results, and not a repetition).

CONCLUSION (A brief explanation in the form of a complete sentence - Conclusions must answer the research question).

SUGGESTIONS / RECOMMENDATIONS (Optional if needed, contains academic recommendations, follow-ups, policy implications).

AUTHOR DECLARATION (authorship statement - author contribution statement, the order and portion of writing if there are more than one author, funding, and conflict of interest statement. Author declaration template is provided by Berkala Arkeologi).

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (Optional, as a form of appreciation for the parties involved in the preparation of the manuscript or research).

REFERENCES (written based on the American style Psychological Association 6th or 7th Edition (APA) - Using Mendeley references manager - Consist of at least ten (10) references, and 80% of them are primary sources for publications such as journal articles, books, research report, thesis issued in the last ten years.

HEADING LEVEL 1Written in the format: CAPITALS, left aligned, bold, REGULAR BOOK ANTIQUA font 12pt, space 1. The distance between HEADING LEVEL 1 and the following sentences is double space.

Heading Level 2Written in the format: Capitalized Each Words, left aligned, bold, REGULAR BOOK ANTIQUA font 12pt, space 1. The distance between Heading levels 2 and 3 is one space.

Heading level 3Written in the format: Sentence case, left aligned, bold, italics, REGULAR BOOK ANTIQUA font 12pt, space 1. The distance between Heading levels 2 and 3 is one space.

HEADING LEVEL 4 AND ABOVE ARE NOT PERMITTED

METHODS(this is heading level 1)Includes an explanation of the location and time of research,

types / nature of research, data collection techniques, and data analysis methods.

RESEARCH RESULTS (this is heading level 1)Research results must be clear and concise. Includes data

explanation and analysis. Avoid using the language of research reports, for example data descriptions that are too long.

Table and Figure (this is heading level 2)All illustrations or images can be made in black and white and /

or color. Always use illustrations or images of the highest quality. To enter "Tables" and "Pictures", please paste in the text-boxed examples listed below.

Table (this is heading level 3)Tables, table titles, sources and information are placed in the

text box (see example below). The title of the table is placed just above the table, centered, using the Segoe UI, 8pt font. The words 'Table' and 'Numbers' are written in bold, while the title of the table is written in the Sentence case style. The Table Numbering is using Arabic numbering (1, 2, 3, etc.). The content of the table uses Segoe UI, 8pt font with spaces 1. Inclusion of sources or information is placed at the bottom of the table, centered, italics, written using the Segoe UI, 8pt.

Figure (this is heading level 3)Images can be graphs, matrices, photos, diagrams, and the like,

placed in the center of the page (centered). Do not use insert tables to insert images, photos, information, sources, etc. Use the text box to insert images if needed.

The title of the image is written below the image, using the Segoe UI, 8pt font, centered. The words 'Figure' and 'Number' are written bold and using Arabic numbering (1, 2, 3, etc.), while the information is written using Sentence case. Inclusion of sources or information is placed under the image title, written in brackets, centered, italics, using the Segoe UI, 8pt. Image’s format must be in .jpg, .jpeg or .tif, with a maximum resolution of 150 dpi.

DISCUSSIONSDiscussions includes synthesis of research results. This chapter

must explore the importance of research results, and not repetition of the research results statement.

CONCLUSION Conclusions are not rewritten from the discussion and also not a

summary, but a brief explanation in the form of narrative explanation sentences. Pointers are not permitted. Conclusions must

The citation method is based on the 6th or newer version of the American Psychological Association (APA) style. It is mandatory to use Mendeley for citing and referencing. The number of reference used is at least ten (10) and 80% of them are primary sources such as journal articles, books, research report, and thesis, issued in the last ten years. The example below is divided by type of source to facilitate writing references. However, in writing the actual references please use the alphabetical order.
